CONTINUING HIS LEGACY
Ed Chapa was a fiercely passionate man with big aspirations and a love for the arts. What started as a simple thought shared with his wife, Mary, grew into a vision that was realized with the inception of the Aurora. The dream to open a quaint community theater on the Southside of Corpus Christi became a driving force in Ed’s life, and his dedication to the cause served as an inspiration to all he met. The success of the Aurora lives on as a testament to the strength of his vision and of his faith in the many volunteers and community supporters who gave of their time and hearts as much as he gave of his.
A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR Welcome back to the theatre! Live and uninterrupted! We are happy to have things in our world to be back to normal. It has been a rough couple of years especially for the live arts and any other industry requiring live human contact. As always, we are grateful to those who were essential in our times of need and we hope you are here tonight and ready to sit back, relax and enjoy yourselves and what better play to come back to, but A.R. Gurney’s Sylvia. This is the third time, I have worked on this play, once as a Director and the other as a Producer and every time it was a great ride and there is no exception tonight. As you prepare your mind for this crazy world, I want you to think about what crazy things you have done for your favorite pet. The money you have spent. The care you have given and most importantly the love you have showered onto your pet. But, through even all that, think about your dog, or you cat, and if they were human. “Why?” you ask. Well, because we already do think of them as human. We know what they think, the looks they give, and we can only imagine what they think of us. That is Sylvia. Enjoy the show!

He’s been seen here at the Aurora Arts Theatre as the Narrator in A Christmas Story; Doctor Scott in The Rocky Horror Show; Mr. Roat in Wait Until Dark; and Richard Hannay in The 39 Steps. He also considers himself to be fortunate to have directed the Aurora’s productions of Neil Simon’s Rumors, and also Plaza Suite, He would especially like to thank each member of this cast for bringing all their talent and hard work to Sylvia. Of course, Bob will be forever grateful to his lovely and talented wife Autumn, for all her love and support!
Laurie Guajardo as Kate Laurie is a theater characterization instructor at Stage Canvas Dance Company in Kingsville TX and studied theater at both Baylor University and Texas A&M Kingsville. Previous productions include “Into the Woods”, Godspell, “American Idiot” (St. Jimmy), Tommy (Acid Queen), and “Junebugs” (Farrah Lee). I am so incredibly excited to be returning to AAT with the amazing cast of Sylvia but this time as a performer after having most recently directed Auroras smash hit “Our Lady of the Tortilla”. I want to thank my fiercely supportive family and friends and I want to especially thank my three children whose belief in me makes all my dreams come true every single day.
Ashley Lopez as Sylvia Ashley thanks her family for always supporting and encouraging her love for acting. Dominic Cruz as Leslie/Phyllis This is Dominic’s second show at Aurora Arts Theatre and he couldn’t be more happy!!!!! These challenging roles for him and is very excited to bring them to life. Many thanks also to his family & friends for their continuing support of his love of the arts.
Jesse Ochoa as Tom Jesse is absolutely delighted to be in his 2nd production at Aurora! Born and raised in Robstown, Texas, Jesse is no stranger to the wide variety of “unique” and “fascinating” people. Some would even argue that He Himself, is rather unique and fascinating. He graduated from Texas A&M University Kingsville with a 4.0GPA and had a lot of fun while doing it. While there, he performed in a number of TAMUK Theater productions - including American Idiot: The Musical, Stop Kiss, and Junebugs. Jesse also recently played the role of Eddy in Aurora’s production of Our Lady of the Tortilla. He’s ready to bring the heat!!! As always, I thank my family and friends for the Love, Support, Encouragement, and Inspiration . . . I love y’all! “Remember: there are no small parts, only small actors.” -Constantin Stanislavski
