It is rewarding to build a whole from a number of fragmented ideas; a connection that allows viewers to indicate, inspect and interpret. My undergraduate study in the English language has enabled me to communicate with clarity, directly reflecting upon my ability to design spaces that deliver my ideas well. Furthermore, my 15-year experience as a sportsperson has instilled in me the qualities that one requires to function efficiently in teams, and hold a unit together in order to materialise a design vision.

PROJECT:

Japanese Dining

LOCATION:

New York, USA

SEMESTER:

II

YEAR:

2021

The project expected us to design a dining space inspired by a specific cuisine with a unique set of furniture. The cuisine of choice was Japanese and the core element taken as design inspiration is chopsticks. The purpose of the design was to create a different seating and dining experience providing a sense of flexibilty to the guests. It is an attempt to make product design seem minimal and comfortable to compliment the overall ambiance of the dining space. The furniture adds an experiential quotient in elevating the space.

SKETCHUP RENDER

The goal of the design is to highlight a commonplace yet very signature piece of cutlery in Japanese culinary culture while simultaneously incorporating the element of verticality, as seen in the back-rest of the chair. The sense of simplicity that this provides is crucial to evoke a feeling of calmness in the overall ambiance of the space.

The soft cushioning of the chair seat and the sharp linear structure of the concrete table are in contrast yet, complimentary to each other.

The chair designed in such a way that it provides ease of access of the user while also being visually appealing. The armrest of the chair is flexible and can be raised above to ensure ergonomical comfort in movment. The thought process behind this was to dissect the furniture into individual elements that increases the versatility of the furniture.

04 PROJECT:

Villanelle Restaurant

LOCATION:

Greenwich Village, New York

SEMESTER:

II

YEAR:

2021

The briefing of this project was to redesign part of a restaurant space, with the star element being wood. The goal was to create a space that doesn’t restrict but provides comfort and room for socializing. With an amalgamation of modern and contemporary style concepts, the element of wood functions in different textures and grains. Moreover, details like cushions and other soft goods add create a balance to the overall design. The furniture planning is to provide maximum floor space for movement focusing on comfortable and visually pleasing elements.

MATERIAL MOODBOARD: AARUSHI CHADHA

Wood has always been considered as a symbol of elegance in traditional interior design styles. The objective behind this project was to take a rustic, natural element like wood and refine it to elegance, while incorporating it into modernity. The overall colour palette has a tinch of earthiness which plays a dual role in enunciating casual and fine dining space.

The design is such that the space is isolated from the outside world, therefore enabling guests to indulge in the environment without pressure. The minimalism in space with vibrant and unique textures and designs allow for easier movement, thereby decluttering the space further. The subliminal use of a vibrant color like pink is used to create an effervescence that goes hand-in-hand with the variety of furniture used. The experimentation with shapes and the incorporation of various elements bring in a feel of fun and a joyous space.
