Aaron Joseph Nicolai Hesse
I am a graduate from IE University and I have lived in 9 different countries while growing up all over Africa, Asia, and Europe. I believe that due to my international background I can offer a grounded and global perspective to any team. I am interested in the built environment and how communities interact with them, whether the environments are in the physical or digital realm. I also have a great passion for 3D and real time rendering. Finding simple solutions to complex problems is the way I approach the design process.

1. SCHOOL MORITZBERG
The MORITZBERG SCHOOL in Stäfa, Switzerland, is currently running a competition to build an extension to their current school campus for both preschool and grade school students, as well as renovating the playground area.
I was happy to develop the visuals for this project designed by Alberati Architekten who created an all wood design focused on sustainability, bright, and pleasant interiors to positively encourage the learning process.
2. GANGHOFER STR.29
Oliv Architekten is a Munich based architecture firm that focuses on revitalization of buildings. During my time there I worked on the project Ganghoferstr. 29, an office building that is currently being renovated from single use to multi tennant. I worked on the the 5th planning phase (LP5) of the german system. Working on an existing building can be very tricky as one does not have as many liberties in the design or even construction process compared to a new building. You have to respect the design that already exisits and try to come up with ways that give the building a fresh but yet relatable character. LP5 is the phase right before or even during construction meaning that all aspects of work are highly technical and in the end one is drawing things that are directly going to the construction site.
I was lucky enough to be tasked with designing the atrium, the main entrance, side entrances, lobbies, and roof terrace. The office also does not do any visualizations in house, but I managed to convince them of my Unreal Engine skills and produced the renderings that were comissioned by the client for marketing purposes.

3. Ski Hut
The Ski Hut was a competition project for Buildner and I was incharge of creating the visuals. The project is located in Iceland and aims to revitalize an existing ski lift, not only allowing people to ski again in the region but to also be a meeting point for people and have spaces for people to interact and relax.

4. RIYADH BRIDGES
The RIYADH BRIDGES is an undisclosed project about creating interactive light installations for 3 bridges in Riyadh. Here we worked with madrid based artist Daniel Canogar who is quite well known for his mesmarizing LED panel installations. These bridges were in a much bigger scale, and initially the client had an idea of how things should look but things quickly changed once we were able to produce these animations in engine. The realtime capabilities of Unreal Engine really is what made this project possible in the first place as we were able to adjust things very quickly and create many iterations on the fly. In th end we had 9 animations total (3 per bridge) with about 100-200 real time raytraced lights animating interactively in each scene.

5. AETHOS HOTEL
AETHOS ERICEIRA HOTEL is a real hotel in Portugal designed by Pedra Silva Arquitectos. I was inpsired by this project and wanted to rebuild it in Unreal Engine 5. This was a personal project of mine which was mainly used as a practicing exercise and to explore the use of lumen as a real-time lighting solution for the video and the path tracer lighting solution for the stills.

6. VILLA 01
VILLA 01 is a case study project where I was testing different kinds of workflows regarding real time and non realtime scenes. It is very useful to be able to switch between the two lighting systems and with a little bit of work lumen does come very close to the quality of the path tracer in certain situations.
The Project was also developed to showcase different kinds of furniture from different brands as well as incoorporating Midjourney AI into our workflow for things like paintings on the wall.
