In this assignment I had to find the best graphical way to share my story, the people and the circumstances that have influenced the most.
My target was to use a minimal design language, enriching the graphics with patterns.
It was very interesting to have the chance to use such a well-known topic and abstracted in an interesting, appealing way.
It was a challenge to communicate so much with soo less, but I feel I was able to do it.
I’m a 33-year-old woman who feels happy with the path that I have walked until today.
I’ve learnt from the lost battles and enjoyed the process of conquering my fears along with the goals.
I’m exactly who I wanted to be at 33 when I was little.
I’m a Colombian architect who is currently enrolled in the Interior Architecture Master’s degree.
I’ve worked on different types of projects, in Colombia and China, but I’ve come to understand that the ones I really enjoy the most are the ones that can really make a difference in a vulnerable social group.
But overall I’m a design lover .
I’m a daughter of God who has guided me out of Colombia, to Italy, China and, recently, to America in the most sweet and smooth way.
Daughter of my parents, Jorge and Lucy, who have given everything to support me a long my life with every choice I’ve made
Sister of Jorge, my amazing brother who has always protected and loved me.
Just when I was ready to accept there wasn’t the perfect man for me, I found my love, my perfect half.
Kun is a Chinese designer who has taught me that love is universal, and has its own language.
If there is a perfect place where China and Colombia could meet, that would be our hearts.
Zian and Zishun, my two boys, came to change me completely.
Every day they teach me that self-actualization is the only way to always be better for them. Looking to the future without regrets about the past.
They are my new sun, my new rainbow, my forever love.
Color is part of every culture, every human memory and relationship with space is affected and modified by color.
With this chapter analyzing the two main cultures that have influenced my life, I can see how strong the color is visible in the architecture, the dresses and the relationship with nature.
Analyzing China and Colombia and its colors, a whole story can be told from a more clear red-shaped culture like China where the mind is more rigid and the beliefs are more firm and strong, to a colorful, friendly culture like Colombia, where everything can always have a positive side, and nothing is so stable but its always fun.
More than the flag colors, Colombia is a vibrant multicolor nation, where the colors are seen in all possible. And from my perspective, it is related to its tropical fauna and flora, for which there is a deep feeling of admiration from its connationals.
A variety of colors combined in the same environment is culturally related to happiness.
Red and gold are the two main colors for Chinese colors, used in celebrations, important buildings, competitions and any other occasion when luck is desired.
Red relates to the blood, the sun and the fire, all as symbols of life, ancestors and tradition. And gold is related to wealth and wealth as a symbol of luck and abundance.

The main topics for this chapter are :
-Three properties of light
-three dimentions of color
-Tint, tone, shade
-Additive and substractive color
-Color Harmonies
Understanding all the properties of color and the knowledge behind it has allowed me to have more confidence when making decisions, because they are no longer arbitrary choices but backed up by research.
“In the Jesuits’ Spiritual Exercises, no single method is prescribed—different methods helped different people...Here a unity of differences is gathered into one. The light is sculpted by a number of different volumes emerging from the roof. Each of these irregularities aims at different qualities of light. East facing, South facing, West and North facing, all gather together for one united ceremony.”
The seven bottles of light as the methaphor for spirituality captured the essence, and was able to transit t succesfully in to the space, creating a prayer environment that is inviting, friendly and couzy, with the use of warmtones one the wals and the wood for the doors and furniture.
- The relationship between light and color is always is an anseparable one, and should always be an allay to the project.
-The use of color when is used in small proportions can generate strong feelings in the user, creating a suttle conversation between the user and the space.
-Its always important and necesary to consider the evolution of the space thrughout the day, considering the change of light and how the evolution during the night is a way of enriching a project and support the message with the lighting design.

“7 BOXES OF LIGHT”
The Church, is the abstraction of the Discernment, from the uderstanding of the Ignatian spirituality, where different paths can bring us to God.
And just like that the church brings light from North, South, East and West as diferent parts in to the unity of the church, as if it here the soul.
And at the same time the areas where the light enters and how it enters is related to the Liturgy of the mass from the Ignatian ritual.
The color in the project appears in a descrete sensibe way, as a desre to connect with the usr and at the same time provide a changing conexion throughout the day. while there is sun on the sky, small colorfull christals project a moving light in specific areas, featuring colors such as RED, GREEN, YELLOW, BUE.
As if the enlighting comes from heaven to earth and in to each heart. Hile at night the church emits the light and colors to the outside, as a latern that guides the way in to the interior for prayer and meditation.
I could understand the project’s relationship with light and color as a dance that muches the souls search for God and spirituality.

Understanding:
-Simultaneus contrast
-light/dark contrast
-cool/warm contrast
-Complementary contrast
-Contrast of hue
-Contrast of saturation
-Contrast of extention
-Bezol effect
Different color contrasts and the way colors interact with each other and with the user is something really amazing and clearly understood with all the graphics in the book. This book will always serve as a guide whenever I need to think further about color selection.
Analyze a movie from how there is a story told with the use of colors. For this module I analyzed the movie from the emotions transied with colors
This assignment opened my eyes to a new dimention in movies, and in this same way we can design spaces where color help the storytelling therefore create and immersive experience.
by Zhang Yimou HEROThis movie from Chinese traditions tells a story of unification, where the common good wins over the individual desire for revenge. And supports the Chinese mindset of losing is also winning. This story is a game of words and colors. A fight without sword, by telling stories about the different battles and the different versions of the battles. It is a game that if it were not for the colors, it would have been even harder to follow.
The colors act as a guide for the viewer and connect to each version of the tale’s emotions.
A man named “No name” capable of killing anyone he wishes, uses his talent and his ability to tell these stories to win, the future emperor of all China, appreciation, and recognition. His intention was to get 10 steps from the emperor, who wishes to unify all the kingdoms.
But the Emperor with a brilliant mind, all in black with his hall kingdom in black, can find the pieces not connected in every story, until he can find out the truth.
And in this battle of words can bring the assassin’s intentions to the light and guide him to understand his point of view, which was also what happen to the previous warrior who tried to kill him. No name chose to let the emperor live, knowing that he was going to die. Nevertheless, the feeling of deep admiration and serenity between both was visible until the end.
And a question remains: Who is the real Hero?
NOTE: I rented the movie two times from different sources, but I was unable to do screenshots, since the screen goes black. Because of this I had to find the images online, which where mostly in poor quality.
Black is the constant color, the guideline to reality, related to the strength of the characters with changes in the Value that highlights special moments and details. Its moment where the dialog is more important than the image itself, and the emperor explains that everything is empty to avoid distractions, since the previous time de green decorations almost got him killed.
This version of the story is driven by love, passion, and sacrifice. The underlaying of Chinese character in RED as a hidden tool for No Name to understand the sword skill, is related to the end of the movie, where the character appears again in the back of the emperor, highlighting that the stronger weapon is the word.
But also red changes in chroma; purer in the beginning meaning passion, and later add white to signify the devastated death; followed by addition of black reaching a burgundy red that relates to the death of a hero.
We continue bringing the colors, the Black in the scene with a sense of serenity, Red worn by the characters as a symbol of death, and appears the Yellow as a symbol of revenge, a revenge that will constantly appear along the different stories and will then appear in the dessert.
White is the main color for transcendence and death in Chinese tradition, is brought also with sadness and endless wait and a loss cause. Accompany by the pale Yellow from the desert and the dress in the character with the last revenge.
Green for Chinese is a color of fool, shame, a “Green hat” is the expression commonly used when someone is being played. And it is related to the innocent, naive love played between the other two killers, and it is also related to the emperor Green decoration not being aware of his dangers. That is why later everything is black without decorations, meaning he is prepared and vigilant.

Understand how color influence a person’s wellbeing.
Color can affect the mood, therefore improve someone’s health with a design for peace and balance.
Understand how the eyes perieve the colors
Different colors can influence aperson in a different way, knowing this theory can help us design environments for wellbeign.

Analyze a luxury retail experience with the following criteria:
-Hue contrast
-Value Contrast
-Design feature
-Texture contrast
-Focal point
The parameters wich where used to understand a brand like Moncler gave me the tools for the future when ever I need to design a luxy brand, because in this way I can make a check list for enriching the user experience like the luxury store does.
The colors and materials in the store transport you to a contrast of warm and frigid emotions. In this instance, the environment is darker and less saturated, with the dark, saturated red acting as the dominant color.
But the yellow object in the glass box creates a distinct contrast. The viewer’s attention is drawn by the quick equilibrium that the modest amount of the yellow colour generates.
This room feels cohesive due to the black color that permeates the entire design. There are two types of black: solid black and black marble. But, the use of grey marble, which contrasts sharply with black marble, also creates a noticeable shift in value. This adjustment that occurs on the ground and in the star case provides structure and aids in wayfinding.
The passage’s yellow 3D texture is an eyecatching design element that is connected to minute details all over the store. It also serves as a color contrast because the store’s dominant air conditioners are black and white. This way, an area that is not often given special attention receives it with the design feauture and the special yellow hue.
The main corridor is where the store’s texture contrast is most obvious. The striking blackand-white marble pattern welcomes and points the user in what seems to be an unavoidable direction.
The client is followed by this pattern from the entrance door all the way down the lengthy corridor.
The window display in a high-end store with a stylish marble front appears as a main point, with a blue tint and a solid tone that helps draw passersby’s attention.
The viewer is first seen the solid blue, followed by the sign and the glacial artwork.
Also, there is a connection between the marble’s red tone and blue hue.

Color and proportion
-Fibonacci sequence
-Color and scale
-Natures proportion
This was one of my favorite chapters, because nature is really the best example to follow.
The golden number and fibonacci sequence will be a proportion strategy that I wish to bring to all my projects.
The use of brand Identity colors inside a wrkspace was the challenge in this project.
In this module we analyzed:
- Swatches
- Lines
- Texture
- Pattern
- Shape
- Color Variety
From this project I learned that bringing a brand identity into the office is an evolving experience where details matter, but in order to keep the space calm, even when using primary colors, it’s necessary to give hierarchy to the spaces and apply the amount of color in relation to the function.
The color swatches are visibly connected to the ones used in the bottle of Campari.
Using the method suggested by the book, I analyzed the colors in the project with the golden rectangle. There is a very clear and accurate proportion in the use of the primary colors.
In the project, the use of the dominant white and grey creates a balance with the accent colors in much lower proportion.
In this space, where there is a monochromatic atmosphere with a accent hue (yellow) which appears as dominant for the bar, accompanied by the dominant hue white and subdominant grey.
In order to avoid the pace being monotonous, there is a variation in value and texture.
Visible in the yellow from the bar, compared to the darker reflective tone on the bar wall, and the lighter yellow on the back seats.
The lines are used with repetition, creating a texture that brings emphasis and movement to the bar. The lines also break the monotonous environment when only solid colors are used.
Diverse textures are employed in the project, with fewer number of colors, but more value contrast.
Various textures distinguish the use while also bringing movement and fostering a sense of community.
The letters on the bar convey ideas that are intriguing and aid in forging bonds between users as well as between the user and the environment.
Differences in value, the utilization of light, and variations in the material’s reflexion inidex add some balance and intrigue to this monogromatich transition area
Yet with the focal point established at the top of the steps, the room actually makes sense. This focal point is produced by a pattern, a 3D grid that is illuminated.
This area gives off the impression of being inside a campari-infused cocktail, and the texture might be a metaphor for ice, along with the secret ingredient: CAMPARI.
The C-shaped bar serves as the composition’s focal point.
The exact same Campari font draws attention on both the first and second floors, but its color is muted so that the red drinks can take center stage for the immediate user. It emphasizes the hierarchy in terms of the user-to-user distance.
This creation strikes me as a wonderful illustration of color and variety in a really harmonious environment.
Primary colors could be overpowering, but they are effectively employed as accent colors with a good amount of white and grey, giving the users room to breathe.
The placement of color is also very carefully planned to fit the space’s purpose. The colors are more vibrant and have a stronger presence in the bars. Red and black are scarce in the workspace, where grey and white are the predominate colors.
A lines and patterns that can be heavier or lighter but always breaks monotony and adds interest to the space emphasizes each of the regions.

When architecture embraces the surroundings’ organic curves and fluidity, biophilic design elements blur the boundaries between the inside and outside, culture fosters connection, and nature provides food, everything falls into place.
As a haven from the hectic metropolises, this biophilic hotel is designed to be a sanctuary, a retreat, and an island with restorative properties.
Monochromatic spaces require a great knowledge of color and light management in order to make a space rich in experience and that is what I learned from this amazing hotel, full of meaningful experiences.
Although it’s not the greatest photo, this one shows my son and I analyzing the hotel as we both marvel at its distinctive and tranquil environment.
“I wanted to capture the beauty of nature in a hotel and commit to safeguarding it as best I can, a responsibility that I believe we all share. It’s 1 world. But 1 is more than a hotel - it’s a philosophy and a platform for change.”
-Barry Sternlicht, Chairman, Starwood Capital GroupThis quotation, which was taken from the hotel website, can give you an excellent understanding of the philosophy of the establishment. It is quite cogent from the beginning all the way through to the design and the eco-friendly environment.
When I initially walked into the monochromatic one hotel, I felt it was lacking in something and wasn’t provocative enough. But after a few minutes of aimless meandering, I understood that this hotel, unlike other hotels, was meant to be savored slowly. Space by space, and detail by detail. The details are crucial because they add variation to the space by accentuating forms and patterns, emphasizing lines, and using contrast in textures and materials.
Achromatic harmony, according to our book, refers to the emphasis on natural hues and a tranquil backdrop to other elements in the space in order to draw attention to the physical aspects of the space, such as texture and pattern in the materials. It is advised to use different textures and lighting. enhance a graphic feature wall and green as an accent color to enhance interest. (Taken from the texbook)
The prior explanation seemed to be exactly what this project needed. White and wood with beachy tones provide a base for diversity to occur, resulting in contrasts with the warm yellow line. Additionally, there are dark accents that seem to emphasize shapes and lines in a subtle way that goes unnoticed at first glance.
In order to transport the user to the beach and give them a sense of tranquility, different natural components are brought in directly and patterns are generated in a similar way. Green, the primary color, is introduced as a scape accent and immediately establishes a connection with the user. On the other hand, in the rooms, the blue of the ocean is introduced and establishes a connection with each user.
Lines appear constantly along the hotel, creating textures and patterns, but it appears especially as a guide to the user and as a touch of magic and luxury.
The warm yellow light horizontally, which is probably 2700 k appears horizontally, accentuating the chance of level, with a dreammy effect which provides cozines, comfort and a relaxing atmosphere.
The lines also appear in black on the railings that divide each of the lounge rooms, and are visibly shown to help any user who might need it.
Both the black and the warm light lines have a safety function, in order to aid, guide people and avoid an accident.
There is a constant contrast of shapes, a conversation in each of the areas along the hotel, where the organic shapes, directly from nature, ortagonal geometry or the perfect circular shapes.
Wood appears in each image as both a material and a shape, with various presentations of wood logs.
These forms stand out from the rest and provide the user a sense of freedom and connection to nature. Occasionally, a change in hue is used to emphasize the shapes.
The simplicity of the square and circle connects the user to the traveling environment and to an Asian-inspired design.
Natural materials like stone, wood, and plants with distinct textures make up the majority of the textures. These textures provide each room a unique link to the outside natural environment.
The most significant artwork, however, is located in the hotel lobby and was made by a texture of grass-like green material.
This texture establishes a crucial connection with the user, highlights visitor awareness, and symbolizes the harmonious coexistence of man and all of creation with love and respect.
The vertical patterns in each of the parts create a sense of grounding, add a rich detail to the room, and prevent the feeling of emptiness in any area where there might be it.
The horizontal lines of the structure are connected by the vertical patterns in both images, creating the impression of vertical continuity and connectedness.
The variety of patterns made using the same vertical lines but in varied thicknesses create a rhythm and melody, turning a segment that would seem tedious and long into a pleasant journey.

As an Interior Architect, color is the most important way to transform a space.
Most people might think that color selection is only a matter of taste or skill, but I have now understood once and forever that color is a knowledge based on research, where so much more research could and should be done.
But with all the knowledge already there and compiled in our text book, I will be a much better designer, able to combine color with forms, shapes and pattern in order to make the spaces more interesting and suitable for healthy, appealing environments.
