Scandinavian Sensibility in Little Village

This historically significant bank originally opened its doors circa 1930’s. Since, it went through a few renovations from its original design. In need of a much needed revitalita tion Designbridge Ltd. was contracted to tackle the challenge. As part of the team I was able to participate in ev ery design stage of this project. From the first site vis it all the way through to contract documentation. I was given the opportunity to drive the project’s design direc tion, which was inspired in the simple sophistication of scan dinavian ae. Combining light cold materials and balancing those with the warmth of american walnut. The service and Teller line desks respond to the existing organic ceiling fea ture, and are constructed from poured in site councrete.

Sustainable Affordable Housing A 43 unit affordable housing development in Pilsen that marries sustainability with good design sensibility. This housing project holds LEED platinum certification. I was brought on board this project to help finish its eleva tions, carefully and meticulously specifying the correct placement of each of the fiber cement siding boards. I was later given the task to design the interior of all typ ical hallways. I created an attractive color palette that blended well with the vibrant surrounding community and designs the flooring pattern. I also developed light ing plans, marketing plans, unit renderings and a mural that is displayed in the building’s double-height vestibule.

Using Vectorworks before handing off the project to the Architect for contract documentation, I helped create BIM sharing files, that allowed for more than one person to work on this project at a time, this greatly improved the efficacy of the team to cross the finish line. This project is currently in for permitting.

Residence + Studio

This Lake View single family residence is a two-sto ry masonry building with floor to ceiling tall win dows that aren’t shy to let light in, as well as views from the outside into the living spaces. I took over this project from simple schematic floor plans. working using Vectorworks (BIM software), a first for the office. I pushed the project forward all the way to design development. I was also responsi ble for developing all presentation drawings as well.

Flumes of Fun! The city of Blue Springs’ parks and recreation is expanding an exist ing athletic field house with a brand new aquatic center packed with tons of fun amenities. The concept of the project tries to capture the vi brancce of the tropics with a sense of modern architectural aestheth ics. The project’s completion date is estimated to be in summer 2024.

Tropical colors bring the vibrance of the caribbean to a small town in the midwest.

Advanced Manufacturing Commercial gem-quality diamonds up to one carat are produced in this advanced two-story 60,000 SF manufacturing plant. Complex HVAC systems and high-tech security measures keep industrial conditions at their best. A central command center, or the facility’s “brain,” supervises operations. Future growth is planned through a multi-phased design and construction proj ect. I was part of the design team and helped carry the project from schematic design through design development phases.

2. Colbern Road Branch - New construction 33,000 SF library, the perforated metal panel screen creates a prom inent veil that promotes the curiosity of pedestrians to wander beyond it. This barriates blurs the boundaries between the circulation outisde of the building and the patio seating patrons are able to enjoy.

2. North Oak Branch is ground up 12,000 SF construction to replace the existing branch buillding. The concept of this projec captures the essence of what is its like to be underneath a canpy of Oaks. The roof line of the building dramatically captures the level changes happening inside of the split level program. Under construction.

1. Lee’s Summit Branch was a dated MCPL library that received a 5,000 SF addition with interior and exterior renova tions. Because of the building’s lack of visibility from the adjacent highway, a “billboard” concept extends the facade beyond the east facade elevation to capitalize on visibility. Construction is currently underway.

Sustainability On The Go

The University organization “Sustainable UF” commissioned to the school of architecture the design of a bicycle trailer that serves as kiosk stand. The trailer has a set of operable wings that open up through a mechanism of pulleys, these wings have two solar panels outfitted that provide the kiosk with clean re newable energy. It provides enough energy to power a number of electronic devices; such as phones, tablets, and laptops to the LED’s that bring light to its body, that serves as the main storage. The kiosk is light enough to be hauled by anyone on a bicycle and its dimensions al low for the easy negotiation of it throughout buildings across campus.

Legs on, Legs off

This desk was designed with utility, beauty, and practicality in mind. All within a very small budget. Built from furniture grade Baltic birch plywood. It only took 2 1/2 - 4’x8’ sheets. The desk consists of a two-piece table top that allowed for the creation of compartments that serve to keep the working surface free of clutter. The center and left compartments are capped 6 inches from the back edge to allow cables to be routed and hid from sight. The upside V shape legs puncture through the bottom piece and are bolted onto the cavi ty spacers, this allows the legs to be removed, making it very easy to be transported and maneuver in tight corners. Coated in a water-resistant natural look polyurethane finish, this work desk is made to last.
