Brian Medhurst spent his working life in the print industry

PRINTING PRESS Amberley Museum has managed to amass an incredible collection of printing press machinery. Volunteers, many of whom have worked in the industry, have managed to get them back in working order for on-site demonstrations. Brian Medhurst spent his entire career in print, starting at the age of 15. “I have seen the transition of print, from letterpress to photocomposition and finally desktop computing. I’m retired

now, but I enjoy acting out my working life twice a week at Amberley. That’s the joy of being a working museum. At some places you can only look at things, but to see everything being demonstrated brings it all to life.”

Steve Clarke enjoys sharing his passion for stained glass with visitors

STAINED-GLASS Steve Clarke runs a stained-glass workshop on site at the Museum. During full day courses, visitors can learn simple methods to create items including mirrors, sun catchers, pendants and candleholders. Steve said: “I use copper foil as it’s easy to cut, shape and solder to hold the stained-glass panels

together. Visitors come and watch me work and I’m always happy to talk about the techniques I use. I make Kaleidoscopes too. It has no batteries or buttons, so today’s kids don’t understand it!”
