Fred Kilmer was a pioneer in infection prevention and his legacy continues to improve patients’ lives to this day. The KILMER Conference is a conference that celebrates the contributions of Mr. Kilmer and the countless contributors who have followed in his footsteps, improving the lives of patients by advancing the science and practice of microbiological quality and sterility assurance.
As host of the KILMER Conference for nearly 50 years, Johnson & Johnson has nurtured and promoted the field and its practitioners and established the KILMER Conference as the preeminent sterility assurance scientific event in the world. It is the event where the Sterility Assurance Community can come together to share and advance innovations in medical devices and pharmaceuticals and between industry, academia, healthcare professionals, and regulatory agencies.
We are grateful for Johnson & Johnson’s long stewardship of KILMER, and their ongoing generous support as they pass the baton to the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and the Parenteral Drug Association (PDA). Tiered payments for sponsorships above the supporter level are available with multi-year recognition and may be spread over several years leading up to the 2028 KILMER Conference. Organizations starting to fund their commitment in 2024/25 before the 2025 KILMER Conference will be designated as Patrons of KILMER. The KILMER Conference is a memorial conference to celebrate the contributions of Fred Kilmer—a pioneer in infection prevention. Fred was a pivotal leader in the pharmaceutical industry and director of Johnson & Johnson’s scientific laboratory from 1889–1934.
Johnson & Johnson has hosted a total of 11 KILMER Conferences between 1976–2022 for invited professionals in microbiological quality, assurance of sterility and infection control from industry, academia, regulatory authorities and healthcare delivery organizations.
Previous conferences focused on advancements in terminal sterilization and aseptic processing, new validation methods, new technologies, and world health issues. In 2022, the KILMER Conference celebrated its 11th event in Athens, Greece.
