AAFA's Asthma Capitals™ Report ranks the top 100 metropolitan cities that are most challenging to live in with asthma in the U.S. AAFA created this report to show how community factors can drive up asthma rates and how we need to all work together to decrease them. Cities are ranked based on three asthma-related health outcomes: asthma prevalence, asthma-related emergency department visits and asthma-related deaths. The report also looks at risk factors, including poverty, air quality and access to specialists. The 2018 report identified two 'asthma belts' - one in the Ohio-Lake Erie area and the other on the Northeastern Mid-Atlantic coast. AAFA publishes this report to help people who live in Asthma Capitals advocate for better care and policies. The report also shows how communities can best direct their focus to reduce the impact of asthma. You can find more information at asthmacapitals.com and aafa.org.
