I know that many students are struggled with their financial problem, some students might have to find jobs in order to pay for their livings, some students might want to get their hands on the internship that regarding to their majors, and some students just want their resumes look good. Glassdoor is a helpful job finder that might provides job oppurtunity to those students. There are only two things you have to do as an applicant. First, set the jobs you want to apply for or the majors you study; second, all you need to do is to sit there and wait for the notifications that remind you, so you can check for the job spaces that are available to apply. I have sign up an account for this application, I can see there are 64 jobs space within 7 days.

Also, the job spaces that appear in the screen are according to your location, in which makes the jobs possible to apply for.

Waze --- maps Unlike google maps, waze is more like a social app which drivers share informations about accidents, police officers, road closures. Waze receives live traffic reports from drivers, which can get you to the destination faster than google from my experience.

Oftentime, google maps is inaccurate in traffic jams.

What’s more, the interface of Waze is better. The only thing matters when you drive is the road. Waze enlarges the road. Google maps shows other extra informations such as names of roads where is irrelevant to the destination.

IFTTT is an app which based on “if this, then that.” It connects different services by an “if… then…” statement. For example, you do not have to create a code program to give you a notification if tomorrow will rain, thus you won’t get wet because you forget to bring an umbrella. IFTTT also allows you to create a recipe by connecting two services. For instance, when you want to backup all photos from iphone into dropbox. Also this app is completely free.

Swifty ---- coding Computer major is hard, and students often struggle with, they want to seek help from their professors or their teaching assistants; however, their professors cannot be able to answer all their students’ questions shortly. Therefore, students need to find another way to continue their academic years. Swifty is a great application to teach students how to code. This application gives exercises to students to work with.

Resources and Activities The Recreation Center at UCSB provides various types of facilities for students. There are swimming pools, weight rooms, spas, climbing walls, squash courts, an indoor hockey arena, and a multi-activity court, etc. When you go to the Recreation Center, you will have a chance to do all different kinds of exercises and find out which one is the best for your needs or suits you the most.

If you chose to do the activity that requires equipment such as racquets and climbing shoes, you could lend them at the front desk. However, not all of the equipment can be checked out for free, and the price varied based on the type of equipment. Furthermore, when you are tired, you can buy snacks, water, or fruits in the Recreation Center as well. During the last week, many people are confused about who would be the MVP in this season, Harden? Westbrook? Or Leonard? Now I think the answer is almost clear, the MVP is Westbrook. After the match between Rocket and Spur, Harden is totally defeated by Leonard. Although from the data, both of them get 39 points and Harden has several more assistant than Leonard. But in the last quarter, Leonard blocked Harden and then shot three point to “kill” the game.

During the whole game, Harden made 7 times faults but Leonard only made 1 times, and comparing efficient value, Harden is “negative”. No doubt, compare Harden and Leonard, Leonard is more competitive to gain the MVP. During the game between Spur and Oklahoma City, Westbrook get the 31st triple-double, if no accident he will get more than 31 triple-doubts in this season and break the record of Wilt Chamberlain. From beginning of this season till now, James Harden has played 67 times for

From my perspective, I think James Harden really has the ability to earn MVP in this season because of his data and leadership. Although Russel Westbrook also has a very beautiful data, he cannot lead his team to top 5 in west. LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard are too staple. They barely have brilliant data like James Harden.

Harden is always a well offensive player to get points for Houston in these several years. However, in this season, Harden become a good leader to assist his teammates.

Not only Harden can get high points, he can also make his teammates better.

Therefore, Harden earned MVP this season due to his beautiful data and contribution to his team.

Kayaking an Experience Worth Living

By Chi Xu, Sebastian You may stand on the beach watching the ocean under the morning; you may sit on the board of a cruise ship watching the white waves. Instead, have you experienced kayaking, to touch the water while stretching your hand? Could be in the west coast of the US or in a country in South America, it does not matter, kayaking is an experience worth living. Being in a boat alone or with a friend it is an experience of hard work, but an opportunity to relax and enjoy the environment around you. Moreover, as this article will illustrate the experience of kayaking provides the same thrills for a beginner as it does for more experience kayakers.

Back in Venezuela I lived in a “palafito” which means “House above the sea”, this structure is held above water by multiple pillars. Indeed, this is a utopian place for those who love water sports. Since a young age my dad would always take me out in a kayak, and navigate me through the channels to reach open water. As I grew older this activity became part of my weekly routine and I always wanted to go further, which is why in 2014 I decided to try and ride a kayak through rapids in the state of Barinas at Venezuela. I remember that experience as it was yesterday, the safety drills, learning the behavior of the river in which we were going to navigate, all this lead to that final test. As soon as the rapids came everything moved quickly, decision needed to be made fast and of course I needed to prevent by any measure not falling from the raft. The strength of the river was very tangible taking you from one place to another, it was in other words, a fight for domination.

Being a state located in the south, Barinas offers good weather to do all kind of sports, and it has what many Venezuelans recognize as tough routes for kayaking. Moreover, it is amazing how after various days of hard work you could always see that sunset that takes your breath away.

Kayaking is a sport that teaches you perseverance and teamwork. I made such good friends through this sport and specially in that trip to the rapids. Nevertheless, kayaking is a hazardous sport, you need to be absolutely focus because problems can occur if you are not on your best.

Back home, you had so many opportunities to be in the outdoors, we have rapids and the Caribbean Sea right on our doorstep making us a jewel for kayaking. Moreover, with a good tourism infrastructure we are a good choice for where to spend some summers doing extreme sports. Just come to this utopia of kayaking and experience it yourself!

Years later who would have thought that I would kayaked for the first time at UCSB. It was a sunny day, and we drove two cars to the beach. At first I was kind of nervous. There were four kind coaches teaching us how to use a kayak. “You need to make a 90-degree angle between your oar and arms”, he said. Additionally, he emphasized the safety issues and signs.

I could not wait for the start. After we were divided in pairs, we carried our kayaks towards the sea and started paddling.

The water was flowing, causing our kayak to move up and down. I felt a little uneasy at first, like a fish returning to water again. After paddling for a while, I could see the land far from us. The Manzanita dorms, the earthy yellow cliff and green plants adhering to it were very clear. I could still see Storke Tower. I was excited because this picture is the same as what is shown on our university’s official website. The water was like a blue plaid shirt, reflecting the golden sun shine.

All the way, you could see many seabirds hovering in the air and making a noise. Luckily, we saw dolphins, the symbol of Santa Barbara. When we found dolphins, I got excited. The dolphins were pitch-dark and they jumped over the sea. Each time they jumped, you could see that they were spurting water into the air.

After kayaking about 40 mins, I felt relaxed. I lied on the kayak and watched the blue sky. I used all my power and was feeling that it was interesting. Later, my partner asked me “hi, can you guess how long it would take us to come back?” I responded “It would take a long time” (laughs).

On March 12th,

we went to Skydive Santa Barbara, located in Lompoc, and four of us experienced the first skydive in our life! Here is a guideline to skydive in Lompoc.

Once you decide to make skydive, you have two ways to start your journey. You can directly walk in there, or you can book it online with $50, which will be counted in your payment later. There are three height-levels for you to choose from with different costs.

After you arrived at there, you have several steps to complete before your jump: • Firstly, you have to watch a video and sign a three-page document, which contains regulations and what you should be notified, to state that you understand the risk of skydive.

• Secondly, you can make your payment and you can add additional cost to have a video or some pictures. If you want just a video or just pictures, it costs $69; if you want both a video and pictures, the price is $99.

• Thirdly, you wait to be called to get fitted for gear, and meet your instructor. He/she will tell you what you should do in different stages. According to our experiences, instructors there are very friendly and experienced.

• Finally, when you finish your sky journey, you can receive your certificate. You can also have your videos or pictures in a USB after thirty minutes.

••Tips: It’s better to have a car because it will take you one hour from UCSB to Lompoc.

After I decided to do skydive, I imagined a lot about what I might experience when I jumped out. I expected that I might think someone or some events that I care a lot. I also predicted that I might feel scared, or I might feel very nervous when I got on the plane. One of my high schoolmate did skydiving several month ago, and my motivation to do it is come from the beautiful pictures that my friend posts on her wechat. I hoped that I would feel that I’m flying during the freefall, and then I could enjoy the landscape after my instructor opened the parachute.

However, I couldn’t feel anything else except for excitement on the day of skydiving. My brain became totally empty during the freefall, and my ears hurt due to the strong air pressure and falling speed. I didn’t think about anyone at that time. It might because I didn’t feel the death, and I believed that I would come back safely in my unconsciousness. The most fun part for me was when my instructor taught me to control the parachute. In conclusion, this experience was very cool and you will feel amazing if you try it.

Before skydiving, I tried to jump from 1 to 2 meters, or even 3 meters above the ground. No matter jumped to the ground or into the water, I didn’t feel scared at all. From the videos of skydiving and scenes from some movies, the audience is only able to feel the coolness and nothing else. For me, I wanted to view the landscapes when I jumped into the midair. After I finished it, all of my thoughts totally changed.

When I jumped out from the plane, my back was facing to the ground. My body rotated several times in the air. My heartbeat accelerated dramatically at that moment. After that, my face was finally facing the ground. In my entire life, I could never imagine that the wind, and the air resistance was so strong. When I looked back from the video that my instructor filmed while skydiving, my face was like being punched. At that time, there was nothing in my mind, and I could hardly breath. It seemed like last forever. I could not view the landscape due to the strong air resistance, which makes me difficult to look around. When the parachute was open, I finally could view the ground. It was really awesome. Everything was so small and I felt I stopped midair.

After skydiving, I realized that how valuable the life is. I want to try more things that I have never done. Don't believe movies and videos. They are all lying.

This is my first skydiving, and I had an amazing experience. Before I arrived at our destination, I was more excited than scared. I really looked forward for this. And when we arrived, I started to feel a little nervous.

This might sound funny, but I worried about if I would be afraid after reaching the jumping altitude. However, when I finally reached the sky with a 18,000 ft height, I was not nervous at all. When I sat at the edge of the plane, I was thinking that I could have a great view during the free fall, since there was an instructor who took charge of everything.

Unfortunately, during the free fall, the only view I could see was a very narrow view of the ground. The moment that I could finally look around was after the parachute was open. And then I knew the most fun part was over.

Before we jumped from the airplane, I was sleepy because I was so excited last night，so I could not fall asleep. I was nervous and curious after two guys who did solo skydive jumped out without any hesitation, and I felt some uneasiness and fear because I did not get used to this sport, and leap without thinking over. I thought about my mum at that moment, a sense of thankfulness flowed through my mind. Maybe I would lose my life because of this stupid decision.

There were also some figures appeared in my mind, and I wanted to see their faces, and to hug them one more time…… I was prepared to die for this.

When my teammates started jumping from the plane, I told myself that I have no choice but to jump! I was the last one to jump, and I did it!

My mind became empty. The wind hit my face. My ears were full of the sound of the flowing wind, and they were painful because of the air pressure. I could only look down to the ground because I was stressed, and I could not move my body. Even though free fall lasted only for a few minutes, I felt that a few hours passed. When I stood on the ground again, I doubted that whether I really jumped from the sky.

It is a so dramatic experience that it is like a dream for me.

As a student who studies alone on the other side of the ocean, have you ever imagined such a scene: a peaceful sunset, when you go home with a weary body, there is a pair of eyes looking quietly through the window and waiting for you; when you trudge into the door, your loyal “partner” will hurl into your arms without worry, wipe your face happily, and feel like to get the whole world of the happiness as long as you appear to its sight.

Most of the people will inevitably derive such idea: I will find a “partner” to accompany me in my adventures in this foreign country as well. It’s easier said than done; finding a suitable pet is going to be a huge undertaking depending on a significant amount of money and plenty of care!

Of course, your living place is a big deal. You should first figure out whether the pet is allowable in where you live. For example, if you currently live in a student residence hall or a student apartment in University of California, Santa Barbara, you definitely can’t have a pet in your room based on their agreements. CLAS: Campus Learning Ass%tance Services As we all know, CLAS is a helpful resource that UCSB offer for all students. Most of us have already gone to CLAS to revise our essays.

However, CLAS offer many types of assistance. We can participate in study sessions to consolidate what we have learned and review for exams.

How can we get access to CLAS? Generally, there are two ways: 1.

Make appointments: Go to page my.sa.ucsb.edu and enter “My CLAS”. There you are able to make an online appointment. You can choose the time and the tutor you want to take. Make sure to be there on time!

2.

Walk-in: If you don’t make appointments, you can just go to CLAS in Students Resource Building for help. There will be extra tutors ready to offer assistance. However, if there is no spare space, we have to wait and we cannot choose tutors.

CAPS: UCSB C"nseling and Psychological Services Life in UCSB can get hard. Heavy school work can sometimes make us stressed out, and problems in communication may make us frustrated. When we find obstacles that we cannot overcome by ourselves, we can seek help from CAPS. “Counseling and Psychological Services is committed to providing timely, currently appropriate, and effective mental health services to our diverse UCSB student body, as well as professional consultation to faculty, staff, and families” (CAPS). The main Counseling & Psychological Services building is located in the middle of campus and shares a physical building with Career Services. Finally, we can also relax with equipment like egg chairs and massage chairs provided by CAPS.

My CLAS Expe&ence Hey, my name is John, and I am a freshman in UCSB. Writing a great essay is a difficult task, but CLAS gives me a hand. In the beginning of my college career, I often received low grades in my papers, and I was frustrated after I put in a lot of effort. One day, I went to my professor’s office hours to discuss a way to improve my paper’s grades, and the professor suggested me to visit CLAS, Campus Learning Assistance Service. I was not sure about going to CLAS at first because I did not know what to expect, but I made an appointment anyway. The appointment process was convenient since I just only had to make a simple online reservation. On the day of my appointment I checked in with a staff, and met my tutor, Mary.

Mary put in a lot of effort on my paper. First, Mary carefully went over the paper with me. As Mary read the paper, she pointed out grammar errors and sentence structure problems, and I marked down her suggestions. In a short half hour of tutoring time, Mary gave my suggestions on my paper, and she also taught me skills on how to formulate a better essay’s argument. After I finished my CLAS appointment, I fixed my paper as Mary suggested me, and I received a very high grade for that paper.

From my experience of CLAS, I felt CLAS was a very useful learning resource. There were many excellent tutors want to help you to success, and they are well trained and prepared to answer your questions about writing. I would recommend CLAS to my friends since it is an excellent resource.

My CAPS Expe&ence

Hi, I’m Nelly Ni, and I’m a first year international student. Do you often feel stressed as a campus student? If you do, CAPS maybe a harbor for you. I often feel stressed as a international campus student, and for this reason I want to talk about my experience with the massage chairs in CAPS, which helps me fully relax. It is pretty easy to frequent CAPS. Students only need to drop-in for massage chairs by writing down their name on a paper in the main office of CAPS during 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Then you just need to wait for the worker to call your name. The waiting time will not be longer than 20 minutes. When your time arrive, the staff will let you sign your name and lead you to a small and dark room in a little garden. After turning off the curtain and sitting on the massage chair, there is a little screen for you to choose the different kinds of massage for the next 15 minutes.

There are “Muscle Relief”, “Thai”, "Stretching”, and “Antistress”. There is also a function named “Zero Gravity”, which will stretch your body in a horizontal level. My favorite kind is “Thai” with “Zero Gravity” because I can relax both my body and mind. After 15 minutes in the chain it is really hard to keep awake. After the massage, you can get a package named “Stress Survival Kit”, which is full of the tiny, but helpful things. I love the “Bubble Wrap” inside the package. If you have time during weekdays, you definitely need to try the massage chairs in CAPS, which will save you from this stressful modern life.

Online games nowadays are increasingly popular in the student’s community. Gaucho Gaming is a gaming community in the university of California, Santa Barbara. The Gaucho Gaming aims to bring students in UCSB who have passion in playing game together and create a fun and welcoming atmosphere for team members. There is no limit and test for students to join this group if these students love games. Most of their group members play online games like League of Legends, Overwatch, Heartstone and Super Smash Brother. I always like to try something new and something amazing. I have done lots of crazy things, and last week I went to Camarillo, a small town 80 miles south of Santa Barbara, for skydiving and it was just amazing.

I booked the skydiving online two days before the trip and the timetable there maybe different due to the weather condition such as rain, temperature, and the wind. Skydiving in Camarillo is $249 during the weekend and $209 during the weekday, and if you want an amazing video, you need to pay an extra $99(student discount $30). You should be arrived at least 15 minutes before the arranged time, and after you have signed all those insurance papers, you are ready to go.

The plane is specially designed for skydiving, and there is only one seat in the plane, which is the pilot. During the 15 minutes flight, you can see the whole costal line and the national park of California; you can even see the downtown of LA. You will be seated beside your coach, and when the plane has reached the height of 150,000ft you will be lock up with your coach, and you will be required to wear a special glasses to protect your eyes. The coach will open the side door of the plane when you are ready, and the wind is strong, and the temperature is freezing up in the sky (you better wear some warm clothes). You will climb out the plane slowly with your coach, and then the coach will count to three, and after 3 seconds you will be flying in the sky. You will be drop down at a speed of 120 mile per hour, which is 200 km per hour. When I first know how fast I will be dropped off, I was nervous.

But when I move to the edge of the airplane, suddenly, I was not afraid and wanted to fly like a bird. When I first jump out the plane, I feel freezing and huge weight loss but a few second later, the weight loss will disappear, and you will feel that you are flying in the sky just like a bird. During the 60 seconds free falling, my face was deformed just like when you are driving 120 mph, and stick your head out the window. After 60 seconds of free falling, your coach will open the parachute, and you will feel a really strong power drag you all the way up. After your coach has opened the parachute, it’s time for you to enjoy the beautiful view of the mountains and the whole costal line. You can control your parachute to turn left or right, and you can also do a small spin in the sky. You will be in the sky for about 2 to 3 minutes.

After you have landed, you will feel a little dizzy first, but the feeling will disappear a few minutes later. The skydiving is far more interesting than taking rollercoaster because the experience of skydiving is more special, and the speed and height are higher, and you can also have a better view.

Although the skydiving is expensive, I think it worths the money. It’s a special and amazing experience that everyone should try. Santa Barbara has the highest drop point in the North America, which is 180,000ft. If you like more detail about the skydiving, you can just Google “ Skydiving Santa Barbara.”

Another Take My friends and I, five of us, went to skydiving in 25th February. Skydiving, which is an extreme sport, is worth trying.

After finishing it, I felt like this is the craziest sport I’ve ever tried, and I believe I would try skydiving many times in my future in different sites on this planet. The most exciting moment is when I was ready to jump from the airplane, which was 13,000 feet above the ground! I was the last one to jump (Don’t ask me why I don’t know…). That means I saw everyone else jumped one by one, and of course, that was scary. However, I calmed down after I jumped because the 60 seconds free fall made me relax, and during this minute I was not thinking about anything but to enjoy crossing through the clouds and embrace the environment. After my instructor opening the parachute, a perfect view of Santa Barbara presents in front of me. I stayed in the air for a while controlling the direction and speed. In the end, I landed safely in a sandy land.

The whole process of skydiving took me almost ten minutes. People can choose the different level of skydiving depend on their demands. For example, the place I went, SB Skydiving, has three different levels which are 8,000, 13,000 and 18,000 feet. Also, different prices are provided which are $159, $189 and $299 without photos and videos taking services.
