Case study on Neuhofweg House Term project

Executive Summary This report is a case study of Neuhofweg house made by Afifah Subedar for Prof. Adrian Bica as a Term project of course Architectural drafting CADD-1. It is the implementation of lessons learned in this subject, like how to use layers, hatch, offset, scaling, converting or attaching a PDF or image and many more into floor plans, elevations, and sections of houses and buildings.

The purpose of this report is to acquire practical knowledge along with theoretical knowledge. This case study contains the general information of the house like cost estimation, overall architectural features and AutoCAD files containing the floor plans, elevations, section, interior, and exterior perspectives.

Section 1.0 Introduction This is a case study of Neuhofweg House as a term project for Architectural drafting-1.

This report will cover the main functions and architectural features of the house.

This house is originally designed by architects named Beck and Oser.

This property lies in the hills of Basel suburb in Switzerland. It is a twostorey building with combination of different shapes ad styles.

Its aesthetic lies in its curvy corners and simple but attractive faรงade.

Section 2.0 Architectural Features and Style This house depicts a sense of movement when we look at it. The window has geometrical patterns, windows on north, west, and east side are placed behind small circles creating a visual pattern inside. The south side has large glass windows which creates a path to backyard and swimming pool.

This project is mainly based on circular geometry. As we move along this feature creates exciting space to look at.

Section 3.0 Circulation & Zoning of the House Starting from living space a spiral staircase leads to the second floor which accommodates four rooms, two bathrooms, and an open workspace.

The terrace can be accessed by a staircase connected from outside of the building The lower floor has a guest room and an efficiently sized activity area.

These rooms get enough daylight from the window leading outwards in the courtyard.

Section 4.0 Construction Systems and Materials The main material used throughout the structure is concrete. The materials used for stairs is red oak.

The outside cladding is a plastered layer of cement first on drywall and is painted grey to give it an ethnic look.

Laminated glass is used for sliding doors and windows, which are insulated for protection from weather.

Section 5.0 Conclusion/ Recommendations This house has a simple faรงade, which is made from basic materials, the aesthetic of this house is its curved corners. the floor plans have calculative planning to fit in the requirements of the client, every piece of the area is used for the purpose, despite having so many rooms architect managed to give a spacious hall on the second floor, which makes it more appealing.
