A dazzling sight for all to see

The severe drought may have curbed firework fun for some New Mexico residents this year, but that wasn’t the case for people who attended the city’s professional display this Fourth of July. Cielo Grande Park was packed with children and adults alike who came out to see the display put on by the city and the Roswell

Sertoma Club. Attendees got ready for the show with live music, and fireworks organizers said this year would be one to remember. “It’s more fireworks thank last year,” said Lt. Shane Adams, of the Roswell Fire Department. “It’s probably the biggest show that the city’s ever seen.” Adams said some 1,200 shells were set up for the show, in addition to the American flag and waterfall

displays. The show was slated to last about 27 minutes. “The Parks and Recreation staff are always really excited to do this event,” said Laurie Jerge, of Parks and Recreation. “(This show) will have more of that wow factor,” she said. “It just makes it a better event for us and for the community.” Winner of the UFO Festival’s Battle of the Bands, S.H.I.L.O., kicked things

Crews battling Lincoln County’s Donaldson Fire reported 60 percent containment Monday, as updated acreage data indicates the blaze is the state’s second largest on record, according to state officials. The lighting sparked wildfire swelled to more than 100,830 acres by Monday. It’s the second largest on record, behind the Las Conchas Fire

burning near Los Alamos, which charred more than 123,560 acres. The Las Conchas fire was 19 percent contained Monday. According to New Mexico State Forestry, the two fires currently burning in the state broke records. The 2003 Dry Lakes Fire in the Gila National
