Dynamically Sensitive Structures

Dynamically Sensitive Structures

At NIRAS, we advise on all types of constructions, including structures subjected to dynamic action.

Expertise

covers the entire Life Cycle

Our expertise generally spans the entire life cycle from the idea, concept and planning phase through design, supervision and construction management to operation and maintenance, renovation and reinforcement, and finally to disposal and replacement of structures.

The projects are often supported by BIM 3D modelling as well as by visualizations to clarify the geometry, quantities and interfaces of the structure.

Experience combined with innovative Solutions

We solve basic tasks based on existing knowledge and acquired competencies through completed projects. But we will not be limited by past achievements. On the contrary, we combine the knowledge gained with innovative and value-creating solution alternatives in the projects.

Trusting Cooperation

At NIRAS, we have a strong focus on the fact that the cooperation with the customer must be characterized by an open and trusting dialogue that uncovers the customer’s needs in the best possible way. It is our experience that a close cooperation, where the customer’s situation and wishes are put at the center, also gives the best results.

From Problem to Structure

Issues in relation to dynamically influenced constructions can be versatile and can involve very different approaches depending on the individual problem. Typical challenges may be floors in buildings, where solutions with sufficiently high comfort level must be ensured during the design phase. Whether it is hollow core decks, steel composite beams or modern

high frequency cross laminated timber decks (CLT) with alternative design parameters. This also applies to walkways, where load cases such as vandalism can be the guiding design criteria in relation to ultimate safety. An alternative is the Tuned mass damper for walking action on particularly slim bridges.

Wind load can also be a focal point on certain structures, especially in relation to maximum impact load or vortex sheading, including additional focus on fatigue. Other times, it is the seismic action that needs to be handled, or foundations subjected to dynamic mechanical load. The user of the Structure is always essential, and there is a big difference between offices and grandstand sections in stadiums.

A clear understanding of the problem and the associated risks is crucial when the task is to be solved in the best possible way. This gives the customer a satisfactory Structure afterwards. NIRAS has solved this type of task for many years, and would like to help you with all types of dynamic problems.

Bridges and special Structures

For 20 years, NIRAS has contributed to the expansions of the Danish infrastructure and has thereby created many of the bridges in the Danish landscape. Within the past 10 years, we have expanded our competencies to cover the Norwegian infrastructure as well, including the construction of serveral Norwegian bridges.
