En Guatemala se firmó el Convenio interinstitucional para la integración del Comité Nacional de Protección de los Buques y de las Instalaciones Portuarias, con la finalidad de salvaguardar dicha zona.

Más instituciones

En el pacto se establece que se integran instituciones tales como los ministerios de Gobernación,

Salud Pública y Asistencia Social; Ganadería, Agricultura y Alimentación, Secretaría de Inteligencia Estratégica del Estado, Superintendencia de Administración Tributaria y el Instituto Guatemalteco de Migración, para que contribuyan con la protección marítima y portuaria.

In Guatemala, an interinstitutional agreement was signed to integrate the National Committee for the Protection of Vessels and Port Facilities to protect this area.

The agreement establishes the integration of institutions such as the Ministry of the Interior,

the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance, the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Food, the Secretariat of Strategic Intelligence of the State, the Superintendence of Tax Administration and the Guatemalan Institute of Migration, to contribute to maritime and port security.

Abrirán consulados en Nashville y Omaha

Nashville and Omaha will open consulates

A finales de 2023 nuestros conciudadanos en Nashville, Tennessee y Omaha, Nebraska, en Estados Unidos, contarán con un Consulado que les quede más inmediato.

El Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores (Minex) informó que esto les permitirá atender a 72 mil guatemaltecos que residen en Nashville y 52 mil en Omaha.

Los servicios

Los guatemaltecos podrán acercarse para tramitar inscripciones de nacimiento, matrimonio o defunción; también, para la autorización de pasaportes y extensión de visas. Ambas oficinas contarán con un centro de impresión de documentos de viaje, entre otros.

By the end of 2023, our fellow citizens in Nashville, Tennessee, and Omaha, Nebraska, in the United States, will have a more immediate available consulate.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minex) said this would allow serving 72 thousand Guatemalans residing in Nashville and 52 thousand in Omaha.

The services

Guatemalans can come to Nashville to process birth, marriage, or death registrations, for passport authorization and visa extensions. Both offices will have a printing center for travel and others documents.

Ucrania condecora a presidente Giammattei Ukraine awards President Giammattei

El presidente Alejandro Giammattei, en reiteradas ocasiones, ha condenado la guerra en Ucrania y abogado por el respeto al derecho internacional y por la paz.

Ante estas gestiones, autoridades del país ucraniano otorgaron la distinción de la Orden del Príncipe Yaroslav, El Sabio, en Primer Grado, una de las más altas condecoraciones de ese país, al jefe de Estado guatemalteco.

Amigos y socios

La distinción se realizó en la Casa Presidencial de Guatemala, acto al que asistió el ministro de Asuntos Exteriores de Ucrania, Dmytro Kuleba. El mandatario resaltó: “Guatemala y Ucrania somos amigos y socios estratégicos”.

“Una vez más, expreso mi profunda solidaridad y admiración al Gobierno y pueblo ucraniano por su resiliencia, valor y fe en la determinación de defender su soberanía”, resaltó el gobernante. Asimismo, aseguró que ambas naciones se han fortalecido por medio de un diálogo franco.

The President stated, “Once again, I express my deep solidarity and admiration to the Ukrainian government and people for their resilience, courage, and faith in the determination to defend their sovereignty.” He also affirmed that both nations had been strengthened through sincere dialogue.

Acuerdos mercantiles fortalecen al país

Recientemente, Guatemala firmó diferentes convenios con países aliados para fortificar su comercio y agilizar su despacho mercantil.

Con México

Un plan piloto será implementado en los próximos meses en la frontera Suchiate II (Tecún Umán II); esto, como parte del convenio que suscribieron la Superintendencia de Administración Tributaria (SAT) de Guatemala y la Agencia Nacional de Aduanas de México (ANAM), el cual tendrá como beneficio la simplificación de procesos y reducción en tiempos de despacho.

El compromiso suscrito persigue incrementar la cooperación y asistencia mutua entre las autoridades en la aplicación y ejecución de su legislación y combate a infracciones, así como desarrollar bases de datos confiables que sirvan para optimizar la toma de decisiones en las áreas correspondientes.

También con Jamaica

Mientras que con Jamaica se espera que el despacho de mercancías se agilice, como parte de la alianza que incluye el Programa Operador Económico Autorizado (OEA), donde se fortalecerá la cadena logística de comercio internacional.

De acuerdo con la SAT, entre los beneficios están la agilización, facilitación y la reducción de verificaciones. ¡Guatemala, asombrosa e imparable!

Guatemala recently signed several agreements with allied countries to strengthen its trade and speed dispatch.

With Mexico

In the following months, we will implement a pilot plan at the Suchiate II border (Tecún Umán II) as part of the agreement signed with the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT) of Guatemala and the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM) using simplified processes and time dispatch reduction.

The agreement seeks to increase cooperation and mutual assistance between the authorities in applying and enforcing their legislation. It also seeks to develop reliable databases to optimize decisionmaking in the corresponding areas.

Meanwhile, Jamaica expects sp eeding merchandise dispatch as part of the alliance that includes the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO)

program for strengthening the logistics chain of international trade.

According to SAT, this alliance’s benefits are the streamlining

and facilitation of the clearance of goods and the reduction of verifications.

Multinacionales voltean a ver a Guatemala

Pakka Inc., el gigante industrial de India, fue la más reciente de varias multinacionales que han decidido instalarse en el suelo nacional y aprovechar las bondades para la inversión que ofrece el territorio.

La firma, que tiene presencia en más de 35 países, invertirá alrededor de US $250 millones en la próxima década y se prevé que genere, en tres años, hasta 10 mil empleos directos e indirectos.

Instalará una planta de empaques, utilizando bagazo de caña de azúcar, y construirá una línea de pulpa con capacidad

para procesar 400 toneladas por día, en los alrededores de la Costa Sur.

Esta sigue los pasos de Yazaki, de capital japonés-

estadounidense y que provee repuestos para vehículos, que inició operaciones a mediados de febrero del año en curso, en Ayutla, San Marcos. Se prevé que genere 10 mil empleos en los siguientes cinco años.

También sigue el camino de Millicom International Cellular, que, por medio de Tigo Guatemala, invertirá US $1 mil millones en los próximos cinco años. Los fondos tendrán como destino principal el incremento de la conectividad.

De acuerdo con el Gobierno, Guatemala ha captado US $5700 millones de Inversión Extranjera Directa (IED) en los últimos tres años.

Pakka Inc, the industrial giant from India, was the most recent of several multinationals that have decided to settle on the national soil and take advantage of the investment benefits offered by the territory.

The firm, which has a presence in more than 35 countries, will invest around US $250 million in the next decade and is expected to generate, in three years, up to 10 thousand direct and indirect jobs.

Near the south coast, it will install a packaging plant using sugarcane bagasse and build a pulp line that can process 400 tons daily.

This investment follows in the footsteps of Yazaki, a JapaneseAmerican company that supplies spare parts for vehicles, which began operations in midFebruary of this year in Ayutla, San Marcos. It is expected to generate 10 thousand jobs in the next five years.

Cartas, poemas, velas y rosas han dejado los visitantes en la tumba de Vanushka, en Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, pidiendo una pareja; y es que a esta gitana se le atribuyen milagros de amor.

Una pareja prohibida Margarita Mielos, conocida como Vanuska, formaba parte de un pequeño circo que arribó al país en la década de 1920. Este se ubicó en el sector de la Ciénaga, hoy zona 2 de la Ciudad Altense, donde la mujer era la principal atracción por sus actos con animales.

En su paso por la ciudad conoció al hijo del gobernador, según historiadores, era mucho menor; ambos se enamoraron, pero había varios impedimentos. El primero era que Margarita estaba casada con Antonio Mielos, un gitano del circo, pero su amor por el joven era más grande. Al enterarse del romance, el gobernador mandó a su hijo a Europa

porque aseguraba que existían notables diferencias culturales y económicas. Vanuska no pudo sobreponerse y se envenenó.

De esta manera nació una leyenda que ahora es parte de la tradición oral de Xela. Locales y turistas acuden al sitio. Esta historia fue recopilada por Elmar de León, autor coatepecano, quien rindió un homenaje a esta gitana.

Vanushka, the love miracle wonder gypsy

Danilo Ramírez DCA Mundo learning of the romance, the governor sent his son to Europe because he claimed that there were significant cultural and economic differences. Vanuska could not resist the loss of her life and poisoned herself.

Visitors leave letters, poems, candles, and roses at Vanushka’s tomb in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, asking for a partner; they say she is the love miracle wonder gypsy.

A love story

Margarita Mielos, known as Vanuska, was part of a small circus that arrived in the country in the 1920s. The woman was the main attraction of the circus located in the sector of La Cienaga, today zone 2 in Quetzaltenango city.

During her stay in the city, she met the governor’s son, who, according to historians, was much younger; both fell in love, but there were several obstacles. The first was that Margarita married Antonio Mielos, a circus gypsy, but her passion for the young man was greater. Upon

Thus was born a legend that is now part of the oral tradition of Xela (As the locals call Quetzaltenango). Locals and tourists visit the site. Elmar de León paid tribute to her in 2019, collecting this story.

¡Rodéese de orquídeas!

El parque ecológico Orquigonia es un santuario de orquídeas y el hogar de la monja blanca, que se encuentra en medio de un bosque nuboso, en Baja Verapaz.

El recinto cuenta con más de 600 especies, donde 9 estaciones cuentan la historia y belleza de estas plantas. A la vez, podrá observar diferentes helechos arborescentes, tillandsias, bromelias, especies forestales con frutos y epífitas con flores.

Durante el tour, los guías enfatizan la importancia de cuidar el medioambiente, para que tanto las orquídeas como las flores sigan ploriferando en el país.

Un homenaje

En 2007, la reserva abrió sus puertas en honor de Oscar Archila Euler, un coleccionista de orquídeas de la región que observó que cada año había menos plantas; esto lo llevó a acoger cientos de ellas e involucrar a familiares y a su comunidad para protegerlas y así formar dicho parque.

Biodiversidad

El lugar ofrece varias actividades; por ejemplo, la observación de aves, pues cuenta con un registro de 150 especies en la reserva.

También podrá acampar o visitar el jardín botánico, que cuenta con especies exóticas; apreciar el cultivo de hongos comestibles, o bien ingresar al mariposario, entre otras sorpresas que tienen preparadas. ¡Guatemala le espera!

Surround yourself with orchids!

The Orquigonia Ecological Park is an orchid sanctuary and home to the Monja Blanca (White Nun), located in the middle of a cloud forest in Baja Verapaz.

The venue has more than 600 species, and nine stations tell the history and beauty of these plants. At the same time, you can observe different arborescent ferns, tillandsias, bromeliads, forest species with fruits, and flowering epiphytes.

D uring the tour, the guides emphasize the importance of caring for the environment so that both orchids and flower species continue to flourish in the country.

A tribute

In 2007, the reserve opened its doors in honor of Oscar Archila Euler, a collector of orchids in the region who every year noticed fewer plants yearly. He

then decided to take in hundreds of them and involve family members and his community to protect them and form the park.

Biodiversity

The place offers several activities; for example, bird watching, it has a record of 150 species in the reserve.

You can also camp or visit the botanical garden, which has exotic species, appreciate the cultivation of edible mushrooms, or enter the butterfly farm, among other surprises they have prepared. Guatemala awaits you!

Samuel Escobar muestra su alma, que lo dirigió al Louvre

La serie Los destinos del alma, del artista visual guatemalteco Samuel Escobar, se expuso en el Museo del Louvre, en París. Cada obra la trabajó con la técnica de acrílico y óleo sobre lienzo aplicado con airbrush, y estuvo acompañada de poemas. Se presentó junto a artistas invitados de Colombia, México, Perú y Estados Unidos.

“Después del Louvre, no hay lugar más grande para exponer para un artista; es un encanto y romanticismo compartir espacio con Leonardo Da Vinci, Caravaggio y con quienes están en la historia del arte”, manifestó. Agregó que la invitación le llegó por parte del Gobierno de Colombia y la galería Praxis.

Un ejemplo

Pero más allá de títulos, premios y exposiciones nacionales e internacionales, el artista destacó el ejemplo de su padre, que lo impulsó a dedicarse al arte. “Toda la inversión de nuestro papá a lo largo de nuestra niñez fue la literatura; por ello, tanto mi hermano como yo somos artistas”, expuso.

The series “Los destinos del alma” (Soul’s Destiny), by Guatemalan visual artist Samuel Escobar, was exhibited at the Louvre Museum in Paris.He created each work with the acrylic and oil technique on canvas applied with airbrush and accompanying each with poems. He presented with guest artists from Colombia,

Mexico, Peru, and the United States.

“After Louvre, there is no higher place for an artist to exhibit; it is a charm and romanticism to share space with Leonardo Da Vinci, Caravaggio, and with those in art’s history,” he said. He added that the invitation came from the Colombian Government and the Praxis Gallery.

An example

He shared that beyond titles, awards, and national and international exhibits, the artist highlighted his father’s example, who encouraged him to dedicate himself to art. “All of our dad’s investment throughout our childhood was literature; that’s why my brother and I are artists.”

El polo, un juego veloz Polo, a fast sport

Goles, adrenalina y mucha acción es lo que vivirá al realizar polo. Guatemala es un país que incentiva este deporte y en su visita al país podrá vivirlo.

La Asociación Nacional de Polo refiere que los caballos que se utilizan en el territorio nacional recorren aproximadamente 4 kilómetros por cada tiempo, el cual suele ser de 7 minutos y medio; se utilizan seis corceles por juego.

Conozca los clubes

Si se encuentra en la ciudad de Guatemala, le compartimos que puede dirigirse al municipio de Fraijanes, donde se encuentra

Club La Loma de Arena Polo, el cual ha sido sede de campeonatos nacionales e internacionales.

Mientras que si se dirige a Villa Canales podrá practicarlo en el Club Las Canchas, que

recientemente albergó el bajo hándicap de polo. Por último, en el sur del país podrá jugarlo en Club El Caobanal.

Campeonatos Guatemala festeja varios campeonatos de polo durante

el año, el más cotizado es el Nacional Bajo Hándicap por representar un desafío; sin embargo, se organizan otros a lo largo del año tales como Nacional Mediano Hándicap, Abierto Las Canchas o Nacional de Mujeres-Pink Polo II.

The National Polo Association states that the horses used in the national territory cover approximately four kilometers per time, usually seven and a half minutes; six steeds participate per game.

Clubes

If you are in Guatemala City, you can go Fraijanes, where you will find ClubLaLomadeArenaPolo , which has hosted national and international championships.

If you go to Villa Canales, you can practice at Club Las Canchas, which recently hosted the low handicap polo. Finally, you can practice polo in the south at Club ElCaobanal.

Championships

Guatemala holds several polo championships during the year. The most popular is the Low Handicap National because it represents a challenge. However, others occur throughout the year, such as Medium Handicap National, Las Canchas Open, or Women’s National-Pink Polo II.

The country has also hosted international competitions. The last was the Argentina Cup 2023, a traditional tournament for celebrating that nation’s culture. Guatemala is waiting for you!
