Guatemala participó en el V Congreso LatamSalud 2022, donde el viceministro de Hospitales, doctor Gerardo Hernández, destacó que 11 centros asistenciales han sido fortalecidos y han elevado su categoría.

Asimismo, destacó la construcción de nuevos establecimientos: “Estamos construyendo nosocomios más modernos, más seguros, para que podamos cumplir con las necesidades propias de la población”,.

En mejora

El viceministro destacó que a finales de año se harán evaluaciones para fortalecer el sistema de salud y brindar un servicio gratuito y de calidad. “Vamos a hacer los planes de mejora y los vamos a implementar… Hemos entendido lo importante que es la Gestión de Riesgo en hospitales”, puntualizó.

La estrategia Guatemala No Se Detiene busca fortalecer al país en infraestructura, capital humano, turismo y competitividad.

Por medio de esta iniciativa, se han desarrollado diferentes proyectos como Sello Blanco; Mi Pueblo, Mi Producto, entre otros, que buscan beneficiar a la población; además, brindan asesorías técnicas para que los artículos cuenten con mejor nivel.

“La idea de todo esto es poder tener en el corto plazo una ruta para que estos programas puedan seguir adelante y dar cumplimiento a cada acción”, puntualizó el ministro de Economía, Janio Rosales.

Mientras que Stefano Olivero, quien forma parte de la mesa de certeza jurídica de Guatemala No Se Detiene, resaltó: “Lo que se busca es crear certeza en las instituciones, con el objetivo de atraer inversiones; será importante darle mucho apoyo y empuje para que se lleve a cabo”.

El ministro de Gobernación, David Napoleón Barrientos, desarrolló una serie de visitas oficiales con diferentes instituciones del Gobierno de Estados Unidos (EE. UU.), con el objetivo de compartir la agenda de seguridad del Organismo Ejecutivo y conversar sobre los desafíos conjuntos para la seguridad de la región.

El encargado de la cartera del Interior, acompañado del jefe del Estado Mayor de la Defensa Nacional, William López, y de otros representantes del Gobierno llevaron a cabo las visitas oficiales del 26 al 30 de septiembre del presente año, donde se afianzaron alianzas estratégicas con agencias competentes en seguridad de la administración estadounidense, representantes de la Casa Blanca, del Congreso y del Senado, así como de la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA).

The Minister of the Interior, David Napoleón Barrientos, conducted a series of official visits with different institutions of the Government of the United States (USA) to share the security agenda of the Executive Branch and discuss common challenges for the security of the region.

The head of the Interior portfolio, the Chief of the National Defense Staff, William López, and other government representatives organized the official visits from September 26 to 30 this year. Strengthening strategic alliances with competent security agencies of the U.S. administration, representatives of the White House, the Congress, and the Senate, as well as the Organization of American States (OAS), were part of the work.

La joya arquitectónica que representa al Gobierno arriba a 79 años de existencia. Inaugurada un 10 noviembre de 1943, en el cumpleaños 65 del entonces presidente Jorge Ubico.

Fue ideado para albergar las oficinas gubernamentales, ahora es un edificio que resguarda una importante colección de arte y un icono del Centro Histórico, imperdible para los turistas.

Detalles únicos

Con su estilo único, una combinación de arquitectura colonial con influencias francesa y neoclásicas conocida como barroco, posee cientos de detalles en cada esquina, pasillo o columna. Nuestro Palacio Nacional cumple 79 años.

“El color del edificio es “una historia de amor”, según Daniel Orozco, administrador del Palacio, “el color favorito de la esposa del señor Ubico, Marta Lainfiesta, era verde con base a su gusto el edificio es de este color”, comentó. Además, en cada puerta del edificio se encuentra una réplica de la huella dactilar de Jorge Ubico.

Fue declarada monumento histórico en noviembre de 1880.

The National Palace of Culture is an art jewel

The architectural jewel that represents the Government reached 79 years of existence. Its doors opened on November 10, 1943, for the 65th birthday of then-President Jorge Ubico.

Its first purpose was to house government offices. It is now a building that houses a significant art collection and an icon of

the Historical Center, a must for tourists.

Unique details

Its unique style combines colonial architecture with French and

neoclassical influence, known as baroque. It has hundreds of details in every corner, corridor, or column. Each architectural or artistic specification has a blueprint kept in the museum’s art gallery.

The color of the building is “a love story,” according to Daniel Orozco, administrator of the Palace, “the favorite color of Mr. Ubico’s wife, Marta Lainfiesta, was green, based on her taste, the building is of this color,”

he said. There is a replicate of Jorge Ubico’s fingerprint on each building door. There are several building details where you can find the number 5.

Restorations

The architectural jewel was declared a historical monument in November 1980. During the last few years, several restoration works have taken place on this important site.

Cada 1 de noviembre, en Todos Santos Cuchumatán, Huehuetenango, se desafía a la muerte al practicar la Carrera de las Ánimas, una tradición que para muchos es oscura,pero para otros, una celebración.

Su historia se remonta al tiempo de la colonización, según cuentan los habitantes; un grupo de vecinos pidió permiso a los españoles para utilizar los caballos: sin embargo, estos se negaron, afirmando que no eran capaces de montarlos.

Los colonos, al no querer recibir una negativa, los desafiaron a una carrera y así demostrar que eran capaces de domarlos. Desde entonces, se celebra esta actividad.

Una muerte, un buen presagio

Una noche antes de la carrera se practica un ritual, que consiste en pedirle permiso a la Madre Tierra; para ello se sacrifican varias aves. Por supuesto, la marimba y la chirimía están presentes; además, es indispensable que los jinetes ingieran bebidas alcohólicas, pues deben montar el caballo en total estado de ebriedad.

Los animales son entregados a las 5 horas del 1 de noviembre y la carrera durará por lo menos unas 10 horas; los jinetes no conocen al caballo que montarán, lo que hace que la competencia sea más peligrosa y desafiante. No obstante, la muerte de un jinete representa un buen presagio, pues marca un año de abundancia, cosecha y mejora, según detalla la tradición.

Every November 1st, the community of Todos Santos Cuchumatán, Huehuetenango, defies death with the tradition of the Race of the Souls; for many, this tradition is dark, while for others, it is a celebration.

According to the residents, its history dates to the colonial period, when a group of neighbors asked the Spaniards for permission to use horses. However, the approval was denied, stating they could not ride the horses. Not wanting to be refused, the neighbors challenged the Spaniards to a race to demonstrate that they could tame the horses. This activity has been celebrated ever since.

A death, a good omen

The ritual of obtaining permission from Mother Earth takes place the night before the race. For this purpose, several birds are sacrificed. Of course, the marimba and the chirimía are present. It is also indispensable that the riders drink alcoholic beverages, as they must ride the horse in total drunkenness.

The animals are delivered at 5 am on November 1st, and the race will last at least 10 hours.

The riders do not know the horse they will be riding, which makes the competition more dangerous and challenging. However, the death of a rider represents a good omen, as according to tradition, it marks a year of abundance, harvest, and improvement.

Con Remembranzas aflorantes, el artista celebró sus 10 años de creatividad artística.

Fue en 2012 cuando comenzó a dibujar criaturas fantasiosas, la flora, la fauna, pero sobre todo ilustra su interior en los cuadernos que llama sketchbooks, que hasta la fecha ya cuenta con 11. “Son anotaciones, bocetos de elementos que llaman mi atención, símbolos, imágenes y los discursos”, explicó Juan Ramón Meza.

El pintor refiere que todo lo que refleja en su colección se inicia en el interior. “Me interesa la parte psicológica del trabajo”, afirma.

Exponiendo

Agregó que gusta de encontrarle un hilo narrativo a sus creaciones, así descubre la historia que hay en todos sus proyectos.

“Esta exposición es el camino de transformación, de renacimiento; es algo continuo, ya que no podemos quedarnos estancados, se debe estar en movimiento y las piezas transmiten eso”, resalta Meza.

The artist celebrated 10 years of artistic creativity with the exhibit Remembranzas Aflorantes (Appearing remembrances).

It was in 2012 when he began to draw fantasy creatures, flora, and fauna, but above all, he illustrates in his sketchbooks his inner world, of which he has 11 to date. Juan Ramón Meza explained, “They are annotations, sketches of elements that catch my eye, symbols, images, and speeches.”

The painter relates that everything he reflects in his collection starts on the inside. “I am interested in the psychological part of the work,” he says.

The exhibit

He added that he likes to find a narrative flow to his creations, discovering the story within all his projects.

“This exhibition is a path of transformation, of rebirth. It is ongoing because we cannot remain static, we must be in motion, and my pieces transmit that”, Meza emphasizes.

The author has exhibited in El Aticco Gallery, Rozas Botrán Galleries, EspacioCe, and Proyecto Poporopo, among others. His last exhibition was at the National School of Visual Arts Rafael Rodríguez Padilla (ENAP, acronym in Spanish), celebrating a decade of his artistic career.

¡Avistamiento de fauna marina!

Marine wildlife sightings!

En el país se han documentado cerca de 33 especies de cetáceos, 4 especies de tortugas y alrededor de 25 o especies de aves marinas, afirmó el Consejo Nacional de Áreas Protegidas (Conap).

Esta fauna se puede visualizar entre noviembre y abril en las aguas del Pacífico guatemalteco.

Regulado

Guatemala emitió un reglamento para la observación de cetáceos en junio del 2015, con el fin de conservarla.

Liberación de tortugas

Además, en su visita a nuestro país, varios resorts, así como en el Parque Nacional Sipacate Naranjo, usted podrá liberar distintas especies de tortugas, entre otras. Simplemente, ¡déjese maravillar!

According to the National Council of Protected Areas (CONAP), there are documents of around thirty-three species of cetaceans, four species of sea turtles, and about twentyfive species of seabirds in Guatemala.

Between November and April, these species arrive in the Guatemalan Pacific’s warm waters.
