Elderly couple lose all in fire By Emma-Jane McLennan AN ELDERLY couple have been left with only the clothes on their backs after fire devastated their uninsured house. They are lucky to be alive after being rescued from their burning home by construction workers. Victor and Pearl Hewitt, aged 98 and 85, were rescued by two passing construction workers after their Bewdley St, Spreydon, house (right), was engulfed in flames. Mr Hewitt suffered burns while trying to douse the fire, which started in the kitchen. Chips cooking on the stove top had been left unattended. “They got us out. Without those two you’d be looking at two deaths,” Mr Hewitt said of the two construction workers. The identity of the two men remains a
