De rollenketting is als aandrijving door het hoge rendement voor de meest uiteenlopende toepassingen inzetbaar en wordt wereldwijd op grote schaal toegepast. Een rollenketting bestaat uit twee soorten schakels die elkaar afwisselen. Een binnenschakel en een buitenschakel. Een kettingoverbrenging kent drie basisfuncties: • Vermogen : Overbrengen van het vermogen (snelheid en koppel) van onderdeel naar onderdeel. • Transport : Verplaatsen van materialen door meenemers gemonteerd aan de ketting. • Timing : Synchroniseren of bijhouden van tijdsbeweging.
