Dancer takes centre stage Ruby Thornton-Mackay’s 13 years of dance training has paid off, being named one of the best students who undertook VCE Dance in 2021. Ruby has been selected to perform at the Melbourne Recital Centre later this month as part of Top Class VCE Season of Excellence, managed by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA). their own organisation. The foundation currently has an annual grants process and is required to give back four per cent of its assets. If approved by the board, the foundation will only give out to Cardinia based organisations. Mr Thomas said once the changes are approved, the foundation will be able to operate at a whole new level. “It will mean we can make a difference to Cardinia organisations through our grants process,” Mr Thomas said. “There was an argument that we were spreading ourselves too thin and this will hone us in to a smaller territory. “Cardinia is growing at such a rapid rate so we can concentrate on some significant projects that really can make a difference in the community.” Cardinia Shire Council will provide financial support to the foundation for the first five years, with the goal to grow the foundation to a point where it will be able to run on its own.

Changes are being made to the Casey Cardinia Foundation, which will potentially be known solely as the Cardinia Foundation. The foundation is making the decision to transition to a Cardinia-only body to help strengthen not for profit organisations in the community. Director Paul Thomas said the board has yet to approve the new direction that will transform the foundation. “Throughout the pandemic, like most organisations that are philanthropic, the foundation has had little to no opportunities to carry out fundraising - we have continued our grants process so the funds have been going out, but we haven’t really had monies coming in because our fundraising was mainly through events,” Mr Thomas said. “We took the opportunity to go through a strategic review over the last couple years. “The review indicated we need to fund the organisation properly to ensure we’re able to fundraise to the level we need to, and ultimately give out significant funds to the community. “We will have significant support from the Cardinia Shire.” Cardinia Shire councillor Jack Kowarzik said it was important to continue to provide the foundation with financial support. “By reinvigorating the foundation we can work with philanthropists in the community. “With the completion of this strategic review, it would be short sighted to wrap up the foundation.” Casey joined the foundation in 2013 but is choosing to make an exit as they reevaluate their focus and undergo changes within
