80’S STYLING OF A CLASSIC CAT PART ONE
ROB MAY Richard Porvasnik from North Olmsted, OH owns this 1985 Mercury Cougar GS. An ad on TV for the aero-cat body style caught his attention. The new ’83 Cat was the initial eye candy; however, Richard never buys a 1st year new model car. In April 1985, a test drive inspired him to inquire about purchasing this fine Cougar. Richard knew what options he desired and decided on a price that he was willing to pay. However, the first dealer would not meet the expected offer. Out the door he went without the car, and he proceeded to go to the same Crossroads dealership (and same salesman) that his mom purchased a 1977 Mercury Marquis (the car he drove to get his first driver’s license). Offering the same price, this dealership was able to complete the purchase. The sunroof option was to be completed locally due to complaints that the factory installed units leaked. Having a cousin working at the manufacturing plant (Lorain) helped move up the car build several weeks having been built 27 days ahead of schedule. An original strong 5.0 V8 with AOD transmission provides a lively stroll across the land. Speaking of original, all of the initial documents have been retained including build sheet and manuals. Keeping the cat all stock has helped this survivor win several awards at car shows. Oscar winning cat? This 1985 Cougar will be in an upcoming documentary film called 1+99. Invisible Glass window mop cleaning head design headaches and triumphs are the main storyline. The car is shown at the beginning of the film allowing many more people to view this fine example of a Mid-Eighties Cat!

Etch opens his eyes and wipes away the rain and blood from his face. It’s morning now. The high speed crash scene is desolate and there is minimal signs that a crash took place on this lonely stretch of road in the back country of northern Rhode Island. He struggles to his feet and leans up against a big tree in front of him on the edge of the wooded landscape. The pain is excruciating and runs from the back of his hip all the way up to the base of his skull. Etch can barely walk. He reaches down and picks up a thick piece of wood and uses it as a brace to support his weight when he attempts to walk. After repeatedly falling down in the muck and mud trying to make his way back to civilization his pain increases but he cannot let that stop him. He knows that the garage and gas station where he keeps his prized Pontiac GTO is about nine miles straight into the woods and the walk will not be pleasant by a long shot. He also knows that if he attempted to walk along the roadway that eventually the police would be called or they would be the
ones rolling up on him as he makes his way back to his muscle car. They may already be staking out the place right now expecting him to try and get back to his vehicle. The walk will take hours but he has no choice. He can’t sit and wait to die. He needs to fight and keep trying to move forward regardless of the consequences. He keeps thinking of her while he manages to get through thick foliage and groups of big trees blocking his path in the woods. He can’t believe that she is gone. Killed by that Deputy Sheriff with a grudge and a hate for Etch and his ride, OUTLAW. He would love nothing more than to have somebody discover his corpse in the woods one day while they are out hunting or camping in the woods. He’d love to be the one to find his lifeless body in the woods but that would take a lot of effort and this guy is not about effort related to anything. He’d rather wait until somebody else did the deed for him. Etch is about halfway through the woods and the pain is becoming increasingly unbearable and it’s hard for him to walk much less

beat his way through the thicket and trees along the way. He has no choice to but to find a place to rest before continuing his long trek through the woods. Etch finds a soft rock to sit on and props up his left leg to try and eliminate some of his severe pain. It only works for awhile. He cannot stay there for another night in the woods. He is wet, raw and cold. He’s also in severe pain. Propping himself up again he starts walking towards the location of his GTO parked at his buddy’s garage and gas station on the outskirts of town. He hopes the cops are not waiting for him there too.

‘Twas the night before Muscle Mutts and Meows, when all thro’ Santa Maria, California; Mercurys were prowling. Classic Cats were driven with care, in hopes that Happy Dayz Diner would soon near. After filling all of the parking spots at the vintage A&W style restaurant, the drivers were nestled all snug in their Cougars, while visions of burgers and shakes danced in their heads! Mercury Stray Cats Central California hosted their first car show this year called Muscle Mutts and Meows in Santa Maria, CA. Glynda Dias’s Happy Dayz Diner on Main St was a terrific place to visit the night before the North CA meets South CA Cougar event. The weather was pleasant and perfect for cats to get out and relax. California Cougar owners from across the state arrived to share their Mercury stories. Cats rode on Radial, Bias-Ply, thin white wall, raised white letters, black
wall, and racing tires to make the trek.

JAY, ARE YOU HOME?! By ELISSA DELUCA I thought an adventure was needed so I took my best friend and we were off. I heard Jay Leno had bought a $13.5 multimillion dollar home on Ocean Drive in Newport, RI called Seafair. Built in 1935, it has 10 bedrooms, 10 full and 3 halfbaths, a pool overlooking the ocean, a pool house, a carriage house and a 6-car garage (wondering what’s in there??). I had to see it for myself. We arrived at Jay’s and were not the only spectators there, but I was the craziest. Most people just stood by the road and took pictures, but not me. I had to get a closer look. The neighbor’s driveway was open and clear, so I did it. Yes, I drove in, but I don’t think it was a driveway and I ended up in their backyard. So I turned around and there it was - a glimpse of Jay’s garage - I had to have I picture or two. On the way out, I said to my friend, “but we are so close!” So I pulled right up to his gate hoping to catch a peak of Jay, thinking he was going to invite me in to see his amazing cars. LOL! Well, I took some beautiful pictures then held my phone threw the gate (thinking the pictures are going to be better)…. oh crap! I dropped my phone, It’s on Jay’s property what am I going to do? So, I yelled, “Jay, are you home?” “Help!!” We ended up finding an ice scraper in my truck hoping it would be long enough. It just reached the phone and I get it back and wave bye to Jay. Sad that I didn’t get to see what collection he may have here in New England. Maybe next time!

A Motorhead’s New Year! JIM WEICHERDING It’s obviously the start of a New Year once again this January and I think back to when I first became a Motörhead. I wasn’t an adult when I realized that I was, in fact, a Motörhead. I was just a kid when I realized that I was genuinely a Motörhead. There was something about seeing cool cars and trucks on all of the streets, back roads and highways across New England that made me smile and get excited about something other than the time I started noticing girls were more than other kids we’d all play kick ball with, or play hide and go seek with or playfully pick
on and tease because they were girls. I really liked cool cars and trucks and I knew I always would feel like this as I became older. Each year would pass and I started realizing that my passion for these cool cars and trucks was becoming more than just a passion with me. It was a lifestyle. It was what I wanted to be around as time passed by. I became a teenager and started thinking about driving and owning my own cool car or truck someday. I was never one for conventional vehicles or just owning a means of transportation. I wanted to personify who I was and what made me tick and express the way I feel about my life with my own vehicles of choice. I never owned a vehicle just for the sake of owning a vehicle. I only owned muscle cars, big trucks and hot rods once I was old enough to possess my own drivers license. My first muscle car was a 1969 RS Chevy Camaro I purchased after working my early teen years in an apple orchard located in Scituate, Rhode Island and delivering furniture for a furniture store located in Pascoag, Rhode Island where I lived. I saved and I saved knowing that every New Year brought me closer to buying my first vehicle. 30| Motorhead Magazine - January 2018

After 4 New Years, I finally had enough money saved to go searching for that just right muscle car I wanted to be my very own and parked in the family driveway. The New Years that followed included having my driveways and garages filled with classic muscle cars, big badass pick up trucks and my fair share of very cool hot rods. I know not everyone is as passionate about their vehicle choices and a lot only care about being economical and politically correct and just want to go from point A to point B without much regard for how they get there. Not this guy. I’m a natural born Motörhead. My son and one of my daughters are Motorheads. I exposed them to that lifestyle and hobby with a lot of trips to and from classic auto shows and cruise
nights when they were growing up. They’d be outside in my GTO, my Chevy Monster Truck or my Chevy Show Truck faster than I could ask; “Who wants to go to a car show?” I guess that may be why they still love this lifestyle and hobby even into their adult lives. I brought them into it just like my dad and uncles brought me into it along time ago. This is a New Year. A year to bring your kids and grand kids into this automotive lifestyle and hobby. Give them a copy of this magazine and open the new Motörhead Kids Page for them with a box of crayons or magic markers so they can color it in and display proudly on the family refrigerator for everyone to see. Let’s see how many more little Motörhead Kids we can inspire this New Year and set the stage for years of automotive passion in your own family and become one of us, a Motörhead Family. By MANNY VIARA When I was younger, I lived in Rumford, a part of East Providence in Rhode Island. There was a hobby shop on Pawtucket Ave that sold model cars and airplane kits made out of balsa wood. The owner would let you display the model car or plane you built in the window of his shop. Being nine or ten years old at the time, this was so cool to me. It was a good feeling of accomplishment seeing something I built in the front window of a shop. One day, on my walk home, I came across a 1932 Ford Highboy by the side of the road. The owner was tightening the fan belt. Just looking at the car got my blood pumping. The dual radiator pipes shining, the full house engine, not to mention the four Stromburg carburetors and aluminum heads. Right at that moment I knew that when I was older I would have a Rod of my own similar to this Highboy. At the young age of 16, I had a 1935 Ford. I installed a ’57 J2 Olds engine. It was a torque monster. I went through a few transmissions and rear ends… I was just a kid. Later on, I traded it for a 1957 210 Chevy from a guy who was in the Coast Guard that lived in Ohio. The car was already customized with a ’53 Chevy grille, lowered hood which was de-chromed. It was hot. It was my first love. I had installed a 327 ci 365 HP engine with mechanical fuel injection, 4 speed 456 gear, dual exhaust and
cutouts. I street raced almost every night. I was “king” for a little while. Years later, the paint wasn’t looking so great and it had a bad vibration. I sold the car but I removed the engine first-for my future Rod. I started building my T-bucket. I am and have always been “old school”. I want something special, so first, I think and dream in my head

about things that no one else has. Everyone has their own ideas but I like to think outside the box. I view everything as a potential part. I love fabricating brackets and custom parts, creating things that no one else has. It’s a good feeling when someone asks, “Where did you get that?” and I can reply by telling them that I fabricated it myself. I made my own chassis, getting parts from body shops, swap meets, junk yards on Allens Ave in Providence and friends. I fabricated the top frame of my T-bucket out of boat parts. My good friend, Ray Tkacs, did the sewing and top-what an excellent job he did. Over the years, upgrades were made-bigger tires, rims, exhaust. It’s still a great Rod and I have always loved the look so I kept improving it. Back in 1967, I worked for Butler Chevrolet. I loved the Chevelle 34| Motorhead Magazine - January 2018

so I purchased a new 396 loaded Chevelle. It came with disc brakes, 4 speed 411 gear, 12 bolt posi unit-it was fast. Unfortunately, I crashed that car and like a dope, I parted it out, which I regret doing to this day. It only had 18,000 miles on it. It broke my heart. In the accident, the bellhousing broke and bent the chassis, which could have been fixed, but I wanted something different. I was still a kid. I was reading the paper one day and I came across a 1940 Chevy Coupe for sale in Norton, MA. I really loved the body lines-it reminded me of the Gasser crew from Connecticut that used to drag race at Charlestown. They all had ’37, ’38, ’39 and ’40 Chevys. So cool, all gassers. They had a real badass look. I made the purchase and took the car home and started working on it immediately. I installed the 396 engine from the parted out Chevelle and installed a Turbo 400 transmission, which I modified to manually shift only. A 411 posi 12-bolt rear end was used with leaf springs. A 1948 Half Ton Chevy truck gave up its I-beam front axle, which was drilled and plated. The entire electrical system I did old school with miscellaneous parts donated from a 1967 Camaro. A local glass shop on
Warren Ave supplied the new glass and the inner stainless steel window moldings were all polished. 1964 Chevy SS seats were adapted, deep black paint was applied after extensive panel fitting and block sanding. Extensive chrome by Ed Horsefield highlights the body and the candy red 10 gauge dash contrasts the black external color. Ray Tkacs custom interior work was totally responsible for the black rolled and pleated theme. Mag wheels in the rear, gasser mag spoke wheels at the front on Goodrich tires keeps it rolling smoothly, but the ride really gets intense with the polished 6-71 blower fed by two 750 Holleys clearanced and assembled by John Conti, boosting that 396 at 5% overdrive, when that “Moon” pedal gets squashed. This car is a driver and has seen plenty of trips to York, Pennsylvania car shows and other cruise nights. I love both of my vehicles with a passion-they’re not just cars to me, they’re my babies.

A Visit to the Newport Mansions Reveals Some Automo�ve History

On a brisk day in Newport I just thought I was going to go tour the beautiful mansions for Christmas. Surprise! While touring the mansions I came upon some photos of Mr. Vanderbilt with a race car. I was intrigued to find out that Mr. Vanderbilt (William Kissam Vanderbilt II, the great-grandson of Cornelius Vanderbilt) was a car enthusiast and I said to myself I have to get more information... Mr. Vanderbilt was known to his friends as Willie, who loved sports but even more he loved driving fast-paced cars. In 1904 he set a new land speed record while driving his Mercedes. He was clocked at 92.30mph at the Daytona Beach Road Course in Florida. The Daytona Beach Road Course was a

An international event, it was first held on October 8 on a course set out in Nassau County on Long Island, New York. The announcement that the race was to be held caused considerable controversy in New York, bringing a flood
of legal actions in an attempt to stop the race. The politicians soon jumped in, holding public hearings on the issue. Vanderbilt prevailed and the inaugural race was run over a 30.24 miles course of winding dirt roads through the Nassau County area. The lure of winning a major trophy with a large cash prize attracted drivers from all across the Atlantic region. His races would draw in crowds that were so large that it became problematic. The crowd sizes got so bad and out of control that a spectator was killed in 1906. He realized that he would have to improve safety issues for his races to continue. So in 1907 he founded a corporation that would build his Long Island Motor Parkway, a multi-million-dollar toll highway. Starting construction in 1908, the 48 mile distance would run from Queens County to Nassau. Unfortunately in 1938 the Parkway was forced to close and the land given back to the county governments in lieu of $80,000 in back taxes. Mr. Vanderbilt never made a penny on his Parkway. By 1938 the parkway had become pretty much obsolete. If youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re lucky you might be able to find some strips of dirt that are well overgrown and paved lots that are a mystery, wondering if this was part of the Parkway. Englewood Beach OPA W JIMMY CAZZANI We look forward to this race, Englewood Beach is a warm welcoming community and their event is well organized. On Friday we splashed the ALEX AND ANI / Stotler Turbo for a quick shakedown run. We used this opportunity to test two pairs of props and set our baseline boost. All went well. We took her up to 167 for a short burst and decided to run the Stotler Turbos at 1600 horsepower for longevities sake. I could always turn them up during the race if necessary.
Leading up to the race I was constantly asked to comment on the fact Steve Curtis and James Sheppard would be piloting the Miss Geico. In my aloof fashion I’d respond “Steve and James who?” but make no mistake I knew exactly who they were and what they’d accomplished in this sport. It was like challenging Michael Schumacher and Mario Andretti! My actual thoughts were, I have me on throttle and Johnny Stanch on the wheel,

we’re fine. Not to be cocky, but if you don’t think like this you may as well never leave the dock. The start of Saturday’s race went fine. Fully aware Steve and James would wring every last ounce of performance out of the Miss Geico we decided to see how they ran, stay close, keep it together for race two and to take advantage of any opportunity present-
ed. Unfortunately about 1.5 laps into the race one motor developed a stumble and caused us to lose pace. It got so bad we eventually stopped. When I inspected the engine bay I see water, lots of it. I shout out to Johnny, “Get us in quick! We’re taking on water!” One of this race sites attributes is the fact shallow is everywhere! With the wet motor failing we decide to gently park it on a sandbar to prevent us

from sinking. Safely stopped and pumped out we discover we’re not taking on water. An intercooler failed and filled the bilge while under power. Now that we’ve proven Latham pumps move a very large volume of water we extract ourselves from the sand bar with the assistance of some kind local boaters and limp in on one engine. I’d like to thank local Fire/Rescue and Sea Tow for lending assistance and escorting us in safely. Now starts the thrashing! We’ve got a mess and

We had to clean and dry wiring, discard a shorted alternator, flush out water contaminated motor oil, get the ignitions to work, jury rig an intercooler and address a host minutia while hoping the crew could get a couple of hours sleep in between. Herb Stotler, Levi Santana, Christopher Currin, Brady Bragg, Jason Dickey and Rob Cochrane succeeded! Sunday we were in the water an hour before race start. Sunday’s conditions were vastly different from the previous day. The calm friendly seas were gone. We had a two to three foot slop chop covering a generous swell or rollers as some may say. We started the race fine but got a little behind at the start as I had to adjust my boost boost baseline which I had altered and was instructed by Herb to closely monitor oil and water pressures for one lap before we hit it hard. All looked well so we gave chase. After a few laps our starboard motor was off under load, I could feel multiple cylinders misfiring especially coming off the turns. Switching ignition banks made no difference. We ran until the system failed completely. You’ll note in the video one rooster tail is weaker as we accelerate. If we were running well I don’t know that we could have caught and passed Miss Geico but lament not having an opportunity to try.

fog of disbelief. I’ve never considered suspending my race program but I was profoundly hurt and saddened. Please say a prayer for David Raabe, Keith Holmes,

Remembering the Man that M

When many of us were young, we were asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up”, and while our own choices periodically changed, for Bob Tasca Senior, his vision never changed. It was said that when he was as young as 8 years old, Bob Tasca Senior knew that he wanted have a lifelong relationship with Ford Motor Company. And as history has proven, not only did he accomplish that goal, but he developed it into one of the most iconic careers in automotive history. Stemming all the way back to 1943, his relationship with Ford Motor Company was based on his love for Ford
products and his desire to give his family and friends a quality automobile and a dealership they could trust for the rest of their lives. As his grandson Bob Tasca 3rd once said, “…my grandfather had three loves- his family, his friends, and Ford Motor Company”. And it was those passions that drove him as he strived to open his own dealership.
It took Bob Senior only ten years to learn what he needed to, before he opened his own dealership in Bristol, RI in 1953. Shortly after that Hurricane Carol demolished his original location and the new East Providence location was acquired. Bob Tasca Senior began to change the way America purchased an automobile, through a vision that honesty and trust builds lifelong relationships. He also began set the Ford Performance world on fire during a time when Ford was not quite so competitive. Tasca was an avid racing enthusiast and eventually became disgusted with the way that General Motors was humiliating Ford on race days. He became so obsessed with gaining advantages on the track that he went straight to Henry Ford 2nd and proposed his ideas that were welcomed with open arms. Tasca developed a series of vehicles that consisted of readily available CRANES components and went straight to the top winning an astounding 97 races.

When I discussed this with Carl Tasca Sr, he glowed with pride as he spoke of how proud Bob Sr would be. Carl told me, “My father loved and appreciated the people that made his business a success. The most challenging task that we are trying to put off this winter is ultimately cleaning out the garage. There are a ton of items to go through, from left over assorted tools, to containers of grease, to half empty bottles of fluids that are bringing us a sense of unnecessary clutter. What even the most vigilant person hasn’t considered is the actual probability of their products being “expired” or well past use. When perusing through your stash of goods on top off your toolbox and shelves, you might want to keep one basic question in mind. “How long have I had this?” One of the most prominent contaminants that will unfold right before your eyes which can be a dreadful harm to your vehicle is hydroscopic fluids. What does hydroscopic mean? Hydroscopic describes something that will readily take up and retain moisture. A common hydroscopic fluid that would cause quite a conundrum is brake fluid. When brake fluid absorbs moisture, the boiling point of the fluid becomes lower and will cause the fluid to compress less. Moisture within your braking system will give the fluid the ability to limit your braking power, and in turn rust out your brake lines and all necessary hardware and components. Being a New Englander during the winter months will accelerate your fluid’s water-sucking habits and this is why it is discourage to keep larger containers on your garage shelf. Part 2 (...continued from last month) Rule #3 is….. DON’T buy from the cheapest place!! Higher price certainly doesn’t always mean that it’s being done better, but the cheapest price is almost always going to be bad news. We will definitely not be the least expensive place to find a remote car starter, but there are distinct reasons that are very important to your long term satisfaction. First of all, these things are complicated! Remote Starts are very detailed systems that have to be done right or not done at all. As I said before, installation is the key to a remote start. If the shop is doing it cheap, then they have to be doing it fast. If they are doing it fast, they are likely skimping on quality and safety to do so. Are they not installing safety features under the hood to make sure no one is ever injured by it starting accidentally while the car is being worked on? Are they not connecting super important data wires correctly, causing the remote start to work fine initially, but go nutty on you a few weeks down the road? Your vehicle is likely one of the largest investments you’ve made, do you really want it in the hands of some technician that is underpaid and always in a hurry because he needs to get to the next job ASAP to feed his family? Isn’t having the best quality in your vehicle worth a few bucks more up front? Rule #4 is…. DON’T try to shop for price over the phone! Trust me, I understand that you feel you need to call around and look for the best price, but at the end of the day it truly is a number that you can’t really trust. Many places will quote you the cheapest price they can come up with, problem is, they’ve left off half the key features that you will really want and/or have to have. Many super stores and others will quote you something crazy like $159 installed, only for you to go in for the installation, and find out you need an additional $200 or more worth of parts to make it work with your car. The majority of vehicles out there will need an interface to make the system work properly with that particular vehicles security system. A remote car starter will NOT work without it, so what good is a price without it being
accurate! Always try to take your vehicle by their location to let them see it and go over things with you. If they are blurting out prices without asking you a bunch of specific questions about your daily life and use of the vehicle, they are likely just lowballing you to do the old “bait and switch”. The last and final rule for this article is DO go to the shop to look at the options!!! I know we covered checking out the shop a few times already, but you also need to look at the remote start systems themselves! There is a good chance you’re going to be using this system to start, lock, and unlock your car every single day for many years to come. Go by the store, check out the remotes themselves and have a specialist go over exactly how it works. Hold the remote in your hand and perform the functions yourself, making sure the remotes are comfortable to use. It sounds like a simple thing, but they really aren’t all the same! The whole point to buying an automatic starter is
for the convenience and comfort it brings. Don’t settle for something that will irritate you every single day because the remote itself is pesky and you don’t like using it! While these “rules” we’ve put out there certainly don’t cover everything about remote car starters, they will definitely make a huge difference in your long term experience if you use them. READERS By BRETT SLATER As far back as I can recall, I’ve been a Buick guy. In fact, I came home from the hospital in a 1971 GS 350 4-speed that was my mother’s daily driver in 1972. Maybe it’s the “underdog” lure that’s kept me drawn to Buicks or the mere fact that the “fast with class” moniker has resonated with me. Either way, I’m hooked. Rewind to December of 2016: a Buick Facebook page features a picture of the car depicted in this story. The group member (and now good friend) had recently purchased the Regal Black 1970 GS 455 Stage 1 4-speed via Craigslist. The car spent its 47 years in relative obscurity in Lebanon, PA, having survived four owners - one of which was a high school kid who blew the original engine after owning it for two weeks. The gentleman who listed the car on Craigslist owned it the longest and only put 10,000 miles on the car in the 35 years he had it. Turns out he was friends with the high school kid and bought the car from him, probably saving his life considering that’s an awful lot of car for a teenager to handle. As far I was concerned, this documented 49K original mile car 60| Motorhead Magazine - January 2018
was the Holy Grail of Buick musclecars. The top of the line model for the year that featured the pinnacle horsepower ratings - for all musclecars churned out by The Big Three - and it was black. I hadn’t been in the market for a car and had been out of “the game” for a long time. Yeah, I’d owned about a dozen Gran Sports over the last 30 years but none had measured up to or even came close to this car’s pedigree. I needed to learn more about this rare gem and speaking in terms of rarity, the 1970 GM Daily Car Reports from Buick list 160 black on black GS 455 Gran Sports produced at the main Buick plant in Flint, Michigan. All Stage 1 cars were built at that plant in 1970 and 1971 and that particular high performance option was only available on the GS 455 model. That being said, it’s presumed that of the 160 cars produced in that particular color, the Stage 1 models were probably in double digits and the 4-speed car production was presumably even lower. I reached out to a mutual friend on the V8BUICK website (who finds

S RIDES cars for people all over the country) and he told me the gentlemen had bought the Gran Sport in late October. Soon after, though, he found one he really wanted. A light bulb went off and an email was sent to the new owner of the black Stage 1. As it turns out, the mutual friend was right: the gentleman (who’d also been out of the game for some time) bought the car and just two weeks later, found one that was strikingly similar to one he’d owned 20 years ago. He then emailed me a very detailed description (with pictures) of the car and our dialogue continued until I flew down to Baltimore in early February to give the car a good once over. I finalized the sale - of a car that wasn’t technically for sale - upon leaving Maryland. Two months later, my dream car arrived in Taunton, MA at 10:30 on a late March evening.
ple enjoy such a nice car. I’m not one of those “look but don’t touch” types at car shows and always offer to let kids sit in it. Their parents get a kick out of it and Lord Vader is typically a hit wherever it goes.
The goal for 2018 is to continue to make the engine compartment look as factory correct (with a hint of Day 2) as possible and I was able to get a lot done in a short amount of time last summer. Luckily, the car has been garaged its whole life and while the early 80’s lacquer isn’t perfect, the car is completely rust free which was a huge selling point. I’ve had offers to buy at car shows and cruise nights but respectfully declined them all. I bought this car “right” and while it’s the NOM (non-original motor), it does have the numbers M21 Muncie
and 3.64 geared rear end. At this point, I figure I’m ahead of the game with no intention of being that person who always remarks: “I wish I never sold that car.”
In the nine months I’ve had the pleasure of owning this rare piece of Buick history, I’ve amassed almost 2,000 miles. Aside from a short period on the shelf - where I had to replace the entire front of the engine - I was lucky enough to attend close to 30 events - even winning a couple trophies and ribbons along the way.
