It was over! “_Another rehearsing I thought it was a bit play for another year.。 It started boring but when Mrs Rose told us four weeks ago.。 First we had to learn who we was that「s when she got my attention.、 “Kelly you are Gabrie10 , the songs,soon some of us started to sdo a 1ittle bit of acting,every 1ittk she said.、。 Well I did not think of bit of practise helps. And when she told me I had to sing a solo I nearly died! This Lodge has recently lost another of its oldest members namely Arthur Burbidge. He was a Member since 1919 also a Trustee. 4 Wedding Dress Worn Again

4 1987 and the end of my four year term as District Councillor for the Kibworth Ward is in sight - how quickly the time has gone!

Congratulations to Michael Stops on his election - Kibworth still1 has its full local representation on the Council which is so important。 Most of the major Council decisions have been reported in the Local press.

Far from acquiring public car parking spaces we are 1osing four at Paget Street due to the letting of the redundant schoo1.。 I shall continue the fight for our car park and easing of traffic congestion - all is not 1lost!

There is disruption in High Street as the Anglian Water Authority has approved a scheme for renewal of 70 metres of foul water sewer and reconstruction of four manholes found to be in poor structural condition.

The cost is met by the Water Authority, No doubt everyone is aware of the disgusting 1itter problem in Britain and the Department of the Environment U.K。2000 Litter Initiative which wil1 possibly inyolyve our 1ocal authorities in contributions via the rates. The problem in Kibworth was brought to my own doorstep by one of our team of refuse collectors.He pointed out open refuse bags standing in Rectory Lane - the contents blowing about and said that it is a common problem throughout the village.

Another problem is broken glass in the bags - thick newspaper and sticky tape will keep jagged edges safe for our Collection 1ads、 What is the matter with us al12 5o much apathy. 工 shall support U.K. 2000 - something needs to be done to stimulate an awareness of our environment. Perhaps before long we wil1 have a bottle bank in the village - it could depend on the success of the one in Harborough on the Commons Car Park.

Special thanks to Mrs Collis,our Postmistress. At the request of an elderly pensioner she has inquired Into the provision of a small handrail on the wall of the Post 0ffice to help _negotiation of the two steps。 It will be installed as soon as possible in 1987。

0n a sunny morning in November the tiny church in the vi11age _of Cranoe was packed to witness the marriage of Miss Helen Beesley and Mr Mark Milner - the first wedding in the church for eleven years.。 The bride , only daughter of Mr and Mrs ] A Beesley,wore a pure silk oyster satin dress which was over one hundred years old.。 The dress was first worn

by Helen「s great-great Grandmother Martha Louise Ractliff,then in 1919

by Edith Ractliff who took the dress with her when she emigrated to America. There it remained until 1958 when it returned to England to be worn by Helen「s mother,Margaret , at her wedding.

When Great Aunt Edith died,al1 the spare pieces of material and 1ace were discovered and also returned to England so when the dress was altered the proper material could be used.。 Helen had to have a new veil as the original one had disintegrated.

Long may the tradition continue.

Instead of having an interval to the dancing,a cabaret is being staged which wil1 feature Rob Goodwin. Rob wrote the song “Mouldy 01d which was a No. 1 hit for the group Lieutenant Pigeon , and so the cabaret should prove interesting and entertaining .

Toddlers「Party The Kibworth Mother and Toddler Group had their Christmas party on 10 December 。 We had an entertainer and also some presents for the children. To Russia With Love When Mark and Susan Bamford were married a few months ago,they chose an unusual venue for their honeymoon they were unanimous in their desire to visit Russia,in spite of temperatures in Leningrad dropping to minus 17“Centigrade! _They spent four days in Moscow,one day on the transSiberian Express and three days in Leningrad,and they found it a wonderful and beautiful country - although they would not wish to 1ive there!

They were in Leningrad at the time of the Winter Festival,which is the Russian equivalent of our Christmas festivities,and,with two feet of snow,were able to enjoy a Fide on a troika。 They found the people extreme1y friendly and helpful,although they were conscious of the looks of envy directed at their possessions and wWere constantly asked to exchange their foreign currency for roubles , a a ˇery favourable rate. The people appeared to be frightened of the police and the military but were otherWise extremely proud of their country and the improvements they had made,although they were aWare of faults in the system,which they intended to put right themselves when possible. Mark and Susan have an album of beautiful photographs as ES permanent reminder of a wonderful holiday .
