Our April’s issue is a celebration of bold thinkers, creative forces, and the beauty of contrast—from minimalist elegance to unapologetic opulence.
On our cover, we’re honored to spotlight powerhouse entrepreneur and business coach Heidi Cortez . Heidi ’s journey from teen entrepreneur to bestselling author and brand-building icon is nothing short of inspiring. In our exclusive feature, she opens up about resilience, reinvention, and how she empowers others to turn their passions into profitable empires.
We’re also thrilled to sit down with Chandan Allen , the visionary founder and designer of MÉLANGE , whose designs blend cultural heritage, fluid elegance, and fearless individuality. Her story is one of deep creative purpose and authenticity—a thread we admire deeply in the fashion world and beyond.
This month’s fashion story dives into the compelling contrast between Quiet Luxury and the Maximalist Comeback. Is understated elegance the new power play, or are we witnessing a return to drama, color, and statement dressing? We explore both ends of the spectrum and what they say about fashion’s mood this season.
And of course, no spring style guide is complete without color. Our Spring Awakening shopping guide is a dreamy pastel palette of must-have pieces that bring softness and joy to your wardrobe—exactly what the season calls for.
Lastly, we take you on a luxurious escape to Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands —a secluded paradise where turquoise waters meet barefoot elegance. Whether you’re dreaming of your next getaway or craving a dose of wanderlust, this feature will transport you.
As always, QP is here to celebrate beauty, boldness, and the boundless creativity that shapes our world. Thank you for being part of our ever-evolving journey.
Warmly,

Heidi , you started working at a very young age and became the owner of a large tanning salon by 22. What drove you to be so entrepreneurial from such an early age?
Thank you! There was no other option for me. The thoughts of working and owning businesses came natural to me. I was doing side hustles at 8, and driving a neighbor to run errands for money at 12 years old. Luckily for me working is what I love to do most!
As a self-taught writer, you quickly made a name for yourself. How did you manage to get noticed by Simon & Schuster so early in your career?
Thank you so much. Simon & Schuster called me at my tanning salon asking me to write a book for them after hearing my stories. I didn’t know what I was doing or even if the opportunity was real at first. I had a lot of press at the time, including the local newspaper in my home town. The article in the local news paper was about my book deal and young entrepreneurial career. That newspaper ended up left on an airplane, then the next person who set in that seat was an entertainment attorney. He read the story, then he too called me at my tanning salon. He quickly signed me as a client and then helped me negotiate the deal with Simon & Schuster .
owners to ask for help. I had to go through a lot of trial and error as I took major risks in my career. Some risks worked, some were just lessons learned.
You’ve worn many hats in your career, from business owner to reality TV star to top Business Coach. What has been the most rewarding shift for you?
Easy - being a mother! I’m so blessed that someone calls me mom.
“the biggest challenge I’ve ever had was not having a mentor at an early age”
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced while building your various businesses, and how did you overcome it?
By far the biggest challenge I’ve ever had was not having a mentor at an early age. I didn’t know any other entrepreneur’s or business
As one of the first influencers on MySpace, you’ve seen the evolution of social media. How has the landscape changed since your early days online?
It’s the same concept … build a network and utilize it! I still follow that same strategy, but of course the way we build a following, create content, and get sales is different. Now I mostly do networking online, instead of thinking I have to meet everyone in person.
From Sunset Tan on the E! channel to your current ventures, you’ve always stayed true to your personal brand. How do you maintain consistency across so many different platforms and projects?
Thank you so much! I have a wonderful team that helps a lot. There is no way I would have the time to do everything by myself. I’m very grateful for them.
Your expertise has helped countless entrepreneurs and celebrities. What do you look for in a person or brand before deciding to take them on as a client?
Great question! I look for someone that is passionate, determined, has a great business or business idea, relatable, and solves a problem.
Many of your clients say your business coaching is “life-changing.” What’s the first transformation you usually see in someone when they start working with you?
I have a very particular strategy I have my clients follow. One of the first major transformations we see is their social media growth. I teach this area first because it’s the foundation of the brand. Almost immediately afterwards my clients start to see their name and business mentioned in press! They both start coming together close in timing.
You’ve now expanded into the fashion world with Posh Boss LA. How do you see affordable fashion playing a role in empowering female entrepreneurs?
I’ve always loved clothes! I personally choose every style and piece on Posh Boss LA . I think having a brand that caters to female entrepreneurs is important. When you’re investing a lot of money into yourself, career, or education, you may not have a lot left over for trendy styles.
How do you stay motivated and keep pushing forward, even during difficult times?
Faith. I walk in faith no matter what.
You’ve coached and mentored a variety of clients.. What’s the most rewarding part of seeing them succeed?
This is my passion … their success is my success. Recently a client gave me a video testimonial about his sales increasing 300% after working with me - the most he’s made in over 10 years! I get so excited hearing these wins that I jump & down as if it were my sales haha. Then yesterday I had a client get featured in VOGUE and to see how happy she was after all her hard
work with me is a priceless feeling!
As a woman who has built multiple successful businesses, what’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned about resilience?
You have to trust the process. You have to give it your all. If you give it your all and it's not working out, maybe that door is closing for a bigger and better purpose.
What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you behind the scenes?
That I haven't turned on my TV in over 2yrs. And before then it was probably 2yrs before that! As crazy as this sounds, I love working more than anything. I've always been this way since I was a kid. I get bored with television, but with the computer or phone I can multitask and flip through websites, apps, videos, and current events very quickly. I've had friends joke about "Heidi knows the answer!", but it's likely because I'm on the internet a lot learning, reading, evolving, and catching up on news & trends.
You’ve talked openly about going through hardships and coming out stronger. What advice would you give to someone who’s in the middle of their own storm right now?
This is such a great question. I would tell them that every storm eventually passes—even the ones that feel endless in the moment. It’s not easy, but during the hardest times, you have to anchor yourself in what matters most, stay strong, and look for the lesson. Every challenge teaches you something that makes you more prepared for the next one. If you can stay optimistic and forward-focused, you’ll find your way out. But if you dwell too long in the pain, you only prolong your suffering.
“It’s not easy, but during the hardest times, you have to anchor yourself in what matters most, stay strong, and look for the lesson. ”
What drives you to keep evolving and pushing boundaries in your career, especially when you’ve already achieved so much?
Thank you! Honestly, my life is never boring because I work with such a wide range of personalities and professionals every single day. One hour I might be in a meeting with a doctor, the next with a brand-new entrepreneur, and a few hours later I could be working with a CEO, a musician, a college student, or a lawyer. The variety keeps me constantly inspired.
Being a Business Mentor is what I was born to do. I get to witness entrepreneurs and business owners hit their goals and transform their lives—and that never gets old. What’s even more rewarding is when past clients, even years later, reach out to share their wins with me because they know
I genuinely care and I’m still cheering them on. I get to do a little celebration dance with them—and that alone drives me to keep going and keep growing.
If you could give one piece of advice to women looking to build their own brand or business from scratch, what would it be?
Don’t neglect social media - it’s free and powerful. Try not to think “If only I got mentioned in a big publication I’d be successful.” Instead, focus on a combination of press, social media, SEO, and networking. It all goes hand-in-hand. One without the other is not enough. Build trust, authority, and credibility to maximize results. Otherwise it may be very challenging to get customers to trust you without “social proof”. Once you build this up, everything becomes a lot easier. I promise!
“I get to witness entrepreneurs and business owners hit their goals and transform their lives— and that never gets old. ”

Fashion in 2025 is anything but subtle—ironically, even the subtle looks are making loud statements. From the hush of stealth wealth to the roar of maximalist revival, two distinct aesthetics are carving out style tribes. One whispers money through muted palettes and sharp tailoring. The other screams identity with clashing prints and expressive layering. But which reigns supreme?
Fueled by the viral wave of Succession -inspired dressing and the Sofia Richie wedding aesthetic, quiet luxury is now an entire identity. Subtle tailoring, tonal elegance, and silent labels define the look.
KEY ELEMENTS:
• Neutrals, monochrome, and earth tones.
• Tailored, minimalist silhouettes.

“It’s not about what you wear, it’s about what it says about your understanding of restraint,” says Marina Gaultier , creative director at understated-chic label Veréne .
Color is back. Patterns are louder. Fashion is fun again. From Harajuku -inspired layers to ‘00s glitz and ironic throwbacks, maximalism in 2025 feels rebellious and alive.

TikTok is split between two aesthetics—scroll once and you’ll see “quiet luxury haul,” scroll again and it's “Y2K fever dream.”
Renowned designer Balenciaga continues to push boundaries by merging minimalist silhouettes with maximalist accents, even after Demna Gvasalia' s departure (he´s Gucci ´s creative director now). Under the current direction, the brand has maintained its legacy of experimenting with sleek, structured lines, integrating bold, experimental accessories that challenge traditional fashion norms.
“Fashion is about finding harmony in contrasts. Minimalism doesn’t mean simplicity, and maximalism doesn’t mean chaos,” says Denma , whose collections continue to blend both aesthetics seamlessly.
This isn’t just about fashion—it’s about cultural alignment. Are you craving calm and control, or freedom and fire? Whether you align with understated elegance or radical self-expression, 2025 makes room for both.

Interview by JOSE-MARIA JIMENEZ
Chandan Allen , founder and designer of MÉLANGE , creates more than clothing—she crafts stories woven from the threads of culture, craftsmanship, and personal evolution. Rooted in the vibrant textile traditions of her native India and refined through the design rigor of Central Saint Martins in London , her work is a fusion of heritage and modernity. Over the past decade, MÉLANGE has become a destination for luxury bespoke fashion, defined by its soulful textures, timeless silhouettes, and reverence for detail. As the brand celebrates its 10-year milestone, Allen reflects on her journey—from hand-stitching clothes on her grandmother’s sewing machine to opening a flagship store in Silicon Valley . In this exclusive interview, she shares her design philosophy, the artisans behind the label, and how sustainability, spirituality, and slow fashion continue to shape her ever-evolving narrative.
Growing up in India, you were surrounded by a rich heritage of textiles and craftsmanship. How did these early influences shape your vision as a designer?
I really enjoyed visiting Indian villages where craftsmanship dated back generations, and weaving on handloom machines was still a practice carried out in most of these households in these villages as part of their livelihood. I would collect fabric swatches, make textures out of them, cut pattern blocks from newspapers, and stitch my own clothes using my grandmother's ancient manual sewing machine. I enjoyed watching my grandma crochet and tried copying her. I would knit for hours, I was certainly a designer in the making!
You trained at Central Saint Martins in London—how did your time there refine your approach to design and influence your brand’s aesthetic?
I started studying fashion in Scotland , where my appetite for learning grew leaps and bounds. I was curious and really wanted to push my boundaries and learn from the best fashion school in Europe . Central Saint Martins taught me to do things with perfection and think out of the box. Learning from the best and being with some of the most creative students made me push my boundaries. I understood the emphasis of detail, I began to experiment and take risks in my work by using different techniques and materials, I learnt to embrace “happy accidents” that led to innovation, I learnt the craft of meaningful storytelling, all of which contributed to building my signature style today.
of both cultures. Being Indian , I draw on traditional textiles, embroidery techniques, and vibrant color palettes. My European training and experience help me incorporate structured silhouettes, minimalist tailoring, and contemporary aesthetics.
Balancing these two worlds comes down to respecting the essence of each. I often start with a classical European silhouette – like an A-line dress – and infuse it with Indian craftsmanship, whether it’s hand embroidery on print or embellished detailing, or fabric sourced from Indian artisans. This way, the designs feel modern and wearable globally, yet rooted in tradition.
“My designs are a fusion of Indian heritage and European fashion, reflecting the richness of both cultures. ”
It's about harmony rather than contrast. I want the wearer to feel the elegance of Europe and the soul of India in every piece. Your commitment to quality and attention to detail led you to establish your own manufacturing in India. Why was this an important step for you?
Establishing my own manufacturing unit in India was a crucial step because quality and craftsmanship are at the heart of everything I create. By having direct oversight of the production process, I can ensure that every piece meets the highest standards, from the choice of fabric to the finishing details. Besides, it allows me to customize any style based on our client’s preference within 2-3 weeks of placing their order.
Your designs incorporate both Indian heritage and European fashion influences. How do you balance these two worlds in your collections?
My designs are a fusion of Indian heritage and European fashion, reflecting the richness
India has an incredible legacy of artisanal skill, and setting up my own facility allows me to work closely with local craftsmen, preserving traditional techniques while maintaining consistency and control. It’s not just about production- it’s about creating a space where innovation and heritage coexist, and where every garment tells a story of intentional design and care.
Ultimately, it's about delivering authenticity and excellence to the people who wear my designs.
Can you tell us about the artisans and craftspeople you work with? How do you ensure traditional craftsmanship remains at the heart of your designs?
The artisans and craftspeople I work with are the soul of my brand. Many of them come from generations of skilled makers – masters of techniques like hand embroidery, weaving, block printing, and dyeing. Collaborating with them isn’t just about production; it's a creative partnership built on mutual respect and a shared love for heritage.
To ensure traditional craftsmanship remains at the heart of my design, I involve these artisans from the very beginning of the design process. I don’t just adapt their work to my vision – I let their techniques and stories shape the outcome. Every piece is a conversation between past and present, tradition and innovation.
It's important to me that these crafts aren’t just preserved, but celebrated – and that the people behind them are empowered and recognized for their artistry.
The hand feel of fabrics is a defining element of your brand. What specific techniques or materials do you prioritize to achieve this?
The hand feel of fabric is absolutely central to my brand because I believe that how a garment feels is just as important as how it looks. I prioritize natural, high–quality materials, like silk, viscose, and linen that not only feel luxurious but also carry a sense of authenticity and character. We are passionate about leaving a green footprint and mainly use sustainable fabrics like bemberg, cupro or recycled polyester.
To enhance the tactile experience, I work closely with artisans who use traditional techniques like hand embroidery, natural dyeing, and delicate surface treatments such as block printing. The methods preserve the softness and individuality of the fabric, giving each piece a unique, lived-in quality.
It's about creating garments that feel personal and comforting – something the wearer connects with on a sensory level, not just visually.
Congratulations on reaching the 10-year milestone! What have been some of the biggest challenges and achievements in your journey so far?
Thank you! The biggest challenge so far is managing our manufacturing facility in India remotely and working against the time difference every day. Also, making the long trips to India , especially during sampling of a new collection, is crucial, and sometimes I have to stay for weeks and months away from my children.
Despite the time difference, late working hours, and frequent travel to India , the biggest advantage is to have full control over the manufacturing process, which makes each garment a labor of love. The launch of our flagship store in 2019 was a feather in our cap as MÉLANGE became a destination store for the locals for luxury bespoke women’s wear. Your first store, MÉLANGE, launched at Stanford Shopping Centre in 2019. What was the vision behind this retail space, and how has it evolved over the years?
MÉLANGE opened its doors at Stanford Shopping Center in 2019 with a clear vision to create a curated retail space where timeless sophistication meets modern expression. From day one, the goal was to offer more than just fashion – we wanted to craft an experience, one where style, craftsmanship, and individuality come together seamlessly.
Besides, offering our personalization and customization service where we could make to size and made to style in two to three weeks, drew attention, as no other luxury brands offered this service. MÉLANGE became a destination store for our clientele where they could experience a service like no other and
“The launch of our flagship store in 2019 was a feather in our cap as MÉLANGE became a destination store for the locals for luxury bespoke women’s wear. ”
have any of our styles made to their individual size and style. The journey from a single retail vision to a community-driven fashion hub has been organic, shaped by the changing rhythm of modern retail.
MÉLANGE continues to grow its presence online and we are working to offer the customization and personalization experience on our website.
With sustainability being a major conversation in fashion, how does your brand approach ethical production and sustainable practices?
Sustainability isn’t just a trend for us – it’s an essential part of how we design, produce, and grow. From the beginning, our approach has been rooted in thoughtful curation and responsible craftsmanship. We believe true luxury is defined not only by design but by integrity.
We work closely with artisans and manufacturers who share our commitment to ethical labor practices and quality over quantity. Our collections prioritize longevity, favoring timeless silhouettes and high-grade materials that reduce the need for fast replacements.
Beyond the product itself, we’re constantly refining our production processes to minimize waste, sourcing eco-friendly packaging, and investing in small-batch runs to avoid overproduction. We see sustainability as an ongoing evolution – a balance between creating beauty and protecting the world it exists in.
At the heart of our brand is the belief that style should inspire confidence, not compromise values. Our mission is to grow consciously and continue offering our clients pieces they can feel proud to wear - in every sense.
Your silhouettes, prints, and intricate details give your designs a unique identity. What is your creative process when designing a new collection?
Every collection begins with a story – an emotion, a memory, or a moment that sparks
inspiration. Once the narrative is clear, we translate it into textures, colors, and forms, always focusing on how the garment will make the wearer feel as much as how it will look. I remember one of our clients remarked, “Your styles can be worn inside out too, as the finishing is so well done.” We thanked and laughed at that compliment.
Silhouettes are designed to strike a balance between structure and fluidity, allowing the pieces to move beautifully and flatter effortlessly, yet looking cutting edge in style. Prints are often both from organic inspirations – art, architecture, flowers that i love, or even everyday scenes- reimagined through our lens to create something distinctive and timeless. For example, my spiritual connection with the hummingbirds inspires me to embed them in our every collection, through our prints, embroidery, and surface ornamentation.
Intricate detailing is the final layer of the process, where craftsmanship meets intention. Every embellishment, stitch, and finish is carefully considered because we believe true luxury lies in the details.
At its core, our creative process is about creating pieces that speak before you do- designs that feel deeply personal, while making a statement! Is there a particular piece or collection that you feel best represents your brand’s essence?
Every collection holds a special place in our story, but there are always certain pieces that feel like the purest expression of our brand’s essence. One standout would be “The Chelsea Dress” from our Spring Summer collection or “The Tresco Dress” – it perfectly embodies the balance we strive for: timeless elegance with a modern edge.
How do you see the role of spirituality and yoga influencing your work, whether in design philosophy or brand ethos?
Spirituality and yoga have always been quiet
“our creative process is about creating pieces that speak before you do- designs that feel deeply personal, while making a statement!”
yet powerful forces behind both my creative process and the way we shape the brand’s ethos. Yoga, at its core, teaches presence, balance, and alignment – and I try to infuse that same sense of harmony into every design. Whether it’s the flow of silhouette, the tactile quality of a fabric or the subtle details of craftsmanship, there’s always an intention to create pieces that feel aligned – not only with the body, but with the wearer’s inner sense of self.
On a broader level, spirituality has helped ground the brand in values beyond aesthetics: mindfulness, authenticity, and conscious creation.
Ultimately, both spirituality and yoga are about connection – to oneself, to others, and to the world – and that connection is what we hope every piece of our collection celebrates.
Fashion is constantly evolving. How do you stay ahead of trends while maintaining the authenticity of your brand?
Fashion is, by nature, ever-changing – but for us, the focus has always been on creating pieces that are timeless, well-crafted, and made with the highest quality.
Authenticity comes from designing with purpose , crafting silhouettes, textures, and details that feel timeless, yet fresh. It’s about understanding the modern woman’s lifestyle and offering her something that enhances her individuality, rather than defining it.
Staying “ahead” for us isn’t about being first to follow a trend – it’s about anticipating how our client wants to feel, and designing pieces that will remain relevant in their wardrobes long after the moment has passed.
What advice would you give to emerging designers looking to create a brand rooted in
craftsmanship and quality?
My advice would be: start with intention, and let quality be non-negotiable. In a world that moves fast, there’s something powerful about choosing to slow down and truly honor the process, whether that means working closely with skilled artisans, selecting the right materials, or perfecting the smallest details.
Craftsmanship is not just a technique, it’s a mindset. Surround yourself with people who share that commitment – whether they are pattern makers, fabric suppliers or fellow creatives – and always remain a student of the craft.
Trends will come and go, but authenticity paired with exceptional quality will always stand the test of time. Build your brand on pieces that tell a story and leave space for evolution, but never compromise on the integrity of the work. Your clients will feel the difference.
What’s next for Chandan Allen? Are there any exciting new projects, collaborations, or expansions in the works?
We’re entering an exciting new chapter, one that’s all about deepening connections and expanding creativity. We have special collaborations on the horizon – partnerships that align beautifully with our values. Each collaboration will bring a fresh perspective while staying true to the heart of our brand.
Beyond that, we’re exploring new ways to refine the retail experience – both in physical spaces and digitally – to make the journey of discovering and wearing our pieces even more personal and immersive.
For us, evolution is about more than new collections – it's about building meaningful stories – and we’re excited for what’s ahead.
