El proyecto “Andalucía Romántica” quiere mostrar la Málaga del siglo XIX por un precio reducido a turistas y vecinos locales. Se estima un ahorro del 30% para el bolsillo de los visitantes y se pretende con ello aumentar las visitas a los centros que forman parte del proyecto.

The Romantic Andalusia initiative has been set up to show the 19th century delights of Malaga to locals and visitors with special discounts. For as little as 12€ you will be able to visit the Thyssen Museum, the Wine Museum and the Popular Arts Museum. The aim is to increase visits to the institutions taking part in the initiative and for museum-goers the advantage is obvious: a saving of 30% if you visit all three.

magínate que un volcán sepulta en ceniza toda la tierra fértil de tu isla. ¿Qué podrías hacer para subsistir? Los agricultores de Lanzarote, a los que les pasó justo esto tras las últimas erupciones volcánicas de 1730 y 1736, tienen la respuesta: cambiar los cultivos tradicionales por vides usando un ingenioso sistema que cava conos en la tierra negra y construye muretes de piedra para permitir que las uvas crezcan.

Lanzarote es un lugar extremo para el viñedo. Debajo de las Canarias no hay más cultivo hasta llegar a Sudáfrica e, incluso en la isla, sus 150 litros por metro cuadrado de lluvias anuales son escasos, más comparados con los 500-600 que caen en La Rioja.

Pero esa ceniza volcánica tiene el increíble poder de impedir que el agua se evapore, por lo que se cava un cono en el suelo hasta llegar a la tierra fértil que hay bajo la tierra negra, haciendo que esos pocos litros cundan muchísimo más.

Imagine the impact of a volcanic eruption that buried most of the fertile land of your island economy. How would you subsist? That's exactly what happened to the farmers of Lanzarote during the last volcanic eruptions of 1730 and 1736, and they found an answer: change the traditional crops for vines and cultivate these using an ingenious system involving digging cone-shapes into the black earth and building little walls made of stones to allow the plants to grow.

When it comes to vineyards, the climate of Lanzarote makes it a challenging location. Going south from the Canaries, there are no grapes grown until you reach South Africa.

On the island, the yearly rainfall of 150 litres per square metre is very little, especially compared to the 500-600 litres that fall on La Rioja annually. But the island’s volcanic ash has an incredible power to stop water evaporating, so the cones in the ground, which funnel rainwater towards the roots in the fertile soil under the black earth, make these few litres go a lot further.

Low rainfall is not the only problem.

Doch die vulkanische Asche verfügt über die unglaubliche Fähigkeit, das Wasser am Verdampfen zu hindern.

Aus diesem Grund wird im Boden ein kegelförmiges Loch bis zur fruchtbaren Erde gegraben, die sich unter der

Pero este no es el único problema de las vides. Los fuertes vientos alisios, los mismos que hicieron que Canarias fuera un punto obligado en la ruta de las naves a vela al Nuevo Mundo, pueden deshidratar a la planta y llevarse el agua que se acumula y no se evapora en el picón. Pero si nada de aire llega a la vid se corre el peligro que se desarrollen hongos y enfermedades. Este peligro que se conjura con esos muretes de piedra volcánica, que filtran el aire y permiten que llegue a la planta.

Todas estas dificultades hacen que una hectárea de terreno pueda tener entre 400 y 900 vides, en relación inversamente proporcional a la cantidad de picón. Normalmente se produce entre 1.000 y 1.500 litros por hectárea, cuando lo normal en la península puede estar entre 6.000 y 8.000 litros. Además, todas las labores, por las características del terreno, deben ser manuales.

Un orgullo para las Canarias, donde su aislamiento le da una característica muy especial: ser toda la planta del mismo tipo.

Cuando en el siglo XIX entra una plaga que destroza las vides de toda Europa, que deben ser a partir de entonces trasplantadas a una raíz americana, esta no llega a las islas Afortunadas, donde toda la vid sigue siendo 100% pura. Algo que no pueden decir las de La Rioja, por mucha lluvia que tengan.

ones that made the Canary Islands a convenient stopover for ships sailing to the New World, can dehydrate a plant and remove the moisture that is held in the volcanic earth. A stone wall might keep the wind out, but if no air reaches the vine there is a danger of fungus developing, making the plant sick. So the stone walls have to be built in such a way as to keep most of the wind out, but let a certain amount of air filter through to the plant.

These difficulties mean that a hectare of land on the island can only support between 400 and 900 vines, inversely proportional to the thickness of the ash layer. Usually about 1,000 to 1,500 litres of grapes are produced from a hectare here, compared to the 6,000 to 8,000 litres that are normal on mainland Spain. Furthermore, all the work must be done manually due to the nature of the terrain.

One thing that Canarian winegrowers can be proud of is a special characteristic of their vines: they are all of the same kind. When, in the 19th century, a plague destroyed vines throughout Europe, vines had to be grafted onto American rootstock to recover the plants. But the disease spared the Canary Islands, whose vines are 100% pure. This is something that La Rioja cannot say for itself, however much rain it gets.

Diese Gefahr wird durch die Mäuerchen aus vulkanischem Gestein gebannt, die die Luft filtern und sie an die Pflanze heran lassen.

Aufgrund all dieser Schwierigkeiten findet man auf einem Hektar Land 400 bis 900 Weinstöcke, in umgekehrt proportionalem Verhältnis zur Menge des Lavakieses. Normalerweise werden pro Hektar zwischen 1.000 und 1.500 Kilo produziert, wohingegen auf der iberischen Halbinsel 6.000 bis 8.000 Liter Normalität sein können. Zudem muss wegen der Gegebenheiten des Geländes die gesamte Arbeit von Hand ausgeführt werden.

Die Abgeschiedenheit bringt ein ganz besonderes Merkmal mit sich, auf das die Kanaren stolz sind: die ganze Pflanze ist von der selben Art. Im 19. Jahrhundert zerstörte eine Plage die Weinstöcke ganz Europas. Diese müssen seither auf eine amerikanische Wurzel aufgepflanzt werden. Doch die Inseln hatten Glück, bis hierher kam die Plage nicht. Die gesamten Reben sind noch 100% reinrassig. Etwas, was man von denen aus La Rioja nicht behaupten kann, auch wenn sie noch so viel Regen bekommen.

Una de localidades campesinas y casas aisladas donde la vida consistía en trabajar la tierra, convivir en familia y cuidar de la granja. El núcleo de todo ello eran las masías, esas construcciones inspiradas en las antiguas Villas Romanas que suponen sin duda el ADN empedrado de la tradición rural del noreste de la península. En Salou, esta identidad histórica se sostiene piedra sobre piedra en La Masía Catalana. 5.260 metros cuadrados de terreno y edificaciones reconstruidas en 1974 - calle Carles Buigas, 50donde pasear por un rústico jardín, contemplar herramientas del pasado y disfrutar de la presencia de animales de campo dejan de ser asuntos de otro tiempo.

At the heart of all this were the masías, country mansions inspired by the ancient Roman villas: without a doubt, the stone-built DNA of rural tradition in the peninsula’s north-east. In Salou, this historical identity is preserved for ever in the stones of La Masía Catalana.

Buildings and grounds totalling 5,260 square metres (Calle Carles Buïgas, Number 50), re-developed in 1974, provide a space where strolling around a country garden, discovering the tools of a bygone age or getting to know the farm animals are no longer things of the past.

At Christmas, there are those who set up a Nativity scene on a cabinet at home; others, meanwhile, use the house itself as part of the setting. La Masía went for Option B. Initially conceived as a decorative crib, the stable at La Masía Catalana de Salou turns into a living Nativity every winter. A human Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus are joined in an authentic Christmas experience by real-life geese, hens, goats and rabbits. There’s a Catalan donkey too – the genuine star of the Nativity.

Masía and mountain are profoundly connected; there are few places where a stone-built mansion house can be found by the sea. Yet the one in Salou is a rare and delightful exception.

El Camino de Ronda – only a few minutes’ walk– links rural and seafront

Masía y montaña son dos términos fuertemente relacionados.

En pocos lugares se encuentra una de piedra ubicada a tan poca distancia del mar. La de Salou prefirió romper con la regla. El Camino de Ronda –a escasos minutos a pie- lleva de la Cataluña de campo a la de mar a través de un paseo que la ciudad inauguró hace dos años para recorrer el litoral local asomándose desde la roca a las suaves olas del Mediterráneo. En su recorrido tres fuentes refrescan el epicentro de los espectáculos cada verano.

Catalonia with a pathway opened by the city a couple of years ago. Visitors can stroll along the local coastline, observing from the rocks as the gentle Mediterranean waves lap against the shore. Can an archetypal hotel in the centre of Salou receive a completely new look? After a full refurbishment process, the revitalised H10 Europa Park hotel certainly offers guests a very pleasant surprise.

The first thing you notice on entering the hotel, which is now the H10 Vintage Salou, is the classic style of the furniture in the reception and lobby area, with its mosaic floors and contemporary decorative elements. This modern twist comes from the ideas of Lázaro Rosa-Violán, the interior designer, who was inspired by the Mediterranean sea for this project.

no de los temas recientes de David Bowie, Where are we now, ha servido a El duque blanco para recordar sus años en el Berlín de los 70. Estas son algunas de las paradas imprescindibles para quien desee hacerse un tour por la capital alemana pensando en el legendario músico.

Su hogar. Bowie compartió piso con el cantante Iggy Pop en la Hauptstrasse 155, una calle situada en el barrio gay de Schöneberg. No hay monumentos cerca, así que los turistas que merodean por la zona son casi con toda seguridad fans de uno de los dos. Aunque no está muy lejos de la céntrica Potsdamer Platz, el paseo también se amortiza visitando el café Neues Ufer, su bar de cabecera, situado a muy pocos metros.

His home. David Bowie shared a flat with singer Iggy Pop at number 155 on Hauptstrasse, a street located in the gay neighbourhood of Schöneberg. There are no major monuments nearby, so if you see tourists looking around the area you can be pretty sure they are fans of one of the two. Although you are not far from Potsdamer Platz and the city centre, you might want to have your coffee at the Neues Ufer, where Bowie was a local.

His workplace. The Hansa Studios, at 38 Köthener Strasse. Here, working together with Brian Eno, the English legend recorded most of the tracks on his great Berlin trilogy and brought hits like Heroes into the world. This site in the Kreuzberg area is a common stop

on the musical tours organised by Fritz Radio, the youth radio station of the RBB, Berlin’s public radio company.

His haunts. Although Bowie was looking to get away from Los Angeles and its associated drug scene, he was also keen to explore the nightclubs that had given birth to the electronic sounds of Kraftwerk that so fascinated him in this period. The SO36, located at 190 Oranienstrasse, is the Berlin equivalent of New York’s CBGB: a major meeting place for the city’s musicians. The Paris Bar (152 Kantstrasse) is a relaxed spot for quiet days, or before the party begins, and is another of Bowie’s favourites.

His exhibition. Until the 10th of August, the Martin Gropius Bau exhibition centre on Niederkirchnerstrasse is showing more than 300 objects from the singer’s personal archive in a successful retrospective that opened last year at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and which is now on show in the German capital.

Mit seiner Reise nach Berlin wollte Bowie einerseits von seinem Umfeld in Los Angeles Abstand gewinnen, das zu sehr den Drogen zugetan war, andererseits wollte er die Nachtclubs kennenlernen, in denen die elektronischen Melodien von Kraftwerk entstanden, die ihn so sehr faszinierten.

Das SO36 in der Oranienstraße 190 ist so etwas wie die deutsche Antwort auf das CBGB in New York und war ein gängiger Treffpunkt des Musikers und seiner Berliner Freunde. Die Paris Bar (Kantstraße 152) war ihm Rückzugspunkt an ruhigen Tagen oder um Parties zu beginnen oder zu beenden. Ein weiterer Lieblingsort Bowies, der immer noch geöffnet ist.

n Fuerteventura es posible alcanzar las estrellas sin necesidad de volar. Basta con asomarse por un mirador, alzar la cabeza y dejarse apantallar por miles de constelaciones que parecen estar más cerca de lo normal. La isla canaria es uno de los mejores lugares del mundo para observar la Vía Láctea.

La UNESCO bautizó recientemente a la isla como destino turístico Starlight por la nitidez de su cielo y su iluminación natural, dos condiciones únicas para que astrónomos y turistas observen qué pasa en la bóveda celeste. Just find an appropriate viewing point, look up and gaze on the hundreds of constellations that will seem closer and more vivid than usual. The Canarian island is one of the best sites on Earth from which to view the Milky Way, and here your trip to space starts with a pair of binoculars.

Recently, UNESCO designated Fuerteventura a Starlight tourist destination because of its clear skies and lack of artificial illumination, two conditions that have made it a popular place for both astronomers and tourists to view the night sky.

You don’t need a spaceship for your stargazing, but you might find it useful to use one of the island’s guides, who can explain the different star groups as well as any periodic phenomena that might be taking place while most of us are staring at the ground.

If you spend more than two hours observing the sky, you can detect the Earth’s rotation through the movement of the stars. Nightly trips, organised by the Fuerteventura

Man muss nur von einem Aussichtspunkt aus den Kopf heben und wird von den Tausenden von Konstellationen beeindruckt sein, die näher als üblich zu sein scheinen. Die kanarische Insel ist einer der weltbesten Orte zur Betrachtung der Milchstraße. Die Reise in den Weltraum beginnt mit einem Fernglas.

El arqueoastrónomo Juan Antonio Belmonte descubrió las huellas de los primeros habitantes de la isla en la montaña de Tindaya. Se trata de unos aborígenes que grabaron podomorfos (petroglifos en forma de pie humano) orientados al paisaje celeste y geográfico. El hotel, situado en Costa Calma, al sur de la isla, ha renovado por completo sus espacios con aires marítimos. El lobby, el Restaurante Jandía y el Despacio Spa Centre ofrecen una nueva imagen que sorprende a los clientes.

Pero lo que más llama la atención nada más entrar al hotel es la barra en forma de jaula que preside el Parrots Bar, decorado con coloridas aves exóticas.

La reforma ha sido diseñada por el interiorista Lázaro Rosa-Violán, quien ha ideado un espacio de aires marítimos e isleños que invitan a imaginar que acabas de llegar a una isla desierta.

Imagine, golden sandy beaches by the sea of turquoise blue… Is this some faraway paradise? No, you are in Fuerteventura, on the Sotavento beachfront.

The hotel, located on the Costa Calma in the south of the island, has been fully refurbished, giving the different spaces a maritime feel. The lobby, the Jandía Restaurant and the Despacio Spa Centre offer a new image that is taking guests by surprise. The most striking new feature is the cage-style bar that is the focus of Parrots Bar, which is decorated with colourful exotic birds.

The refurbishment has been carried out by designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán, who has created a seagoing atmosphere that might make you feel you have just arrived on a desert island.

n algún lugar recóndito de nuestro cerebro aparecen las puertas de un desván muy especial. Tras ellas, los recuerdos de los olores y los sabores de la niñez se amontonan desordenados, pero frescos aún, si uno los reactiva. Cristóbal Valido, responsable de cocina del H10 Playa Meloneras Palace, decidió rebuscar entre esos recuerdos para escoger con cuidado los ingredientes que darían forma a este plato de base tradicional que él bautizó como Variación Canaria. “Cuando empecé a tener conocimiento de lo que era la comida de autor comencé a darle vueltas a la idea de crear un plato que realzara los productos de esta tierra. Piensas en lo que más te gusta de aquí y aparecen enseguida los recuerdos de niño”.

Los meses de verano, Cristóbal y sus dos primos los pasaban en la casa de campo de sus abuelos Antonio y Juana, a las afueras de Telde, Gran Canaria.. Sin más obligaciones que jugar, hacer travesuras y matar el tiempo inventando, el niño que más tarde sería cocinero creó la merienda perfecta. “A las 5 de la tarde

Tastes of childhood

There is some half-forgotten part of our brains that can be accessed through a rusty old door, and inside is a very special attic. Piled up here, without an order of any kind, are all the memories of the scents and flavours of our childhoods. Despite the disarray, they can still be taken out and sampled, upon which they become as fresh as ever. Cristóbal Valido, chef and kitchen manager at the H10 Playa Meloneras Palace, decided to search among these memories when choosing the ingredients that would come together to create a new dish, although one with very traditional foundations, that he has called the Variación Canaria. “When I became interested in signature cuisine, I had the idea of creating a dish made from local products. When I think about my favourite things from the Canary Islands, I remember my childhood.”

In the summer months when they were young, Cristóbal and his two cousins would spend weeks in the house of their grandparents, Antonio and Juana, in the countryside outside Telde on Gran Canaria. With nothing else to do other than play, find adventures and live in the world of make-believe, this

Cristóbal Valido, Küchenchef im H10 Playa Meloneras Palace, beschloss, diese Erinnerungen wachzurufen, um dann mit großer Sorgfalt die Zutaten auszuwählen, die jenem traditionell inspirierten Gericht Gestalt verleihen würden, das er Variación Canaria nannte. “Als ich zum ersten Mal vom Konzept der Autorenküche hörte, begann ich über die Kreation eines Gerichtes nachzudenken, das die landestypischen Produkte hervorhebt.

Man denkt an das, was man hier am liebsten mag und sofort kommen einem Kindheitserinnerungen in den Sinn”.

Cristóbal und seine zwei Cousins verbrachten die Sommermonate im Landhaus ihrer Großeltern Antonio und Juana in der Umgebung von Telde auf Gran Canaria. Es gab keine weiteren Pflichten als zu spielen, Unfug zu treiben und die Zeit tot zu schlagen und dabei kreierte der Junge, der später Koch

llegaba el panadero. Abría el pan recién hecho, le untaba chorizo de Teror, le deshojaba dentro un poco de hierbabuena que cultivaban mis abuelos y cerraba el bocadillo. En la otra mano, un plátano pelado. E iba dando bocados sincronizadamente.

Uno a la derecha y otro a la izquierda, y al mismo ritmo, porque ambos tenían que durar hasta el final. Esa mezcla dulce y salada me encantaba”.

Agarrando esa base del recuerdo de infancia y sumándole algunos ingredientes más para transformar el bocadillo original en un plato más sutil y fresco, Cristóbal dio con la receta definitiva hace ahora cuatro años. “Sustituí el pan por un crep salado y añadí otros ingredientes como el tomate de la huerta canaria, el queso de gofio y el jamón ibérico”.

El resultado es un plato tibio muy colorido, que combina la frescura del tomate y el crep con el sabor intenso y salado del jamón y el chorizo, con toques dulzones de plátano, mermelada de tomate y queso fundido. Todo un homenaje a su tierra, y en especial a los recuerdos de los veranos en Telde.

“The bread delivery man used to come at 5 o’clock. I would break open the freshly baked loaf, put in some Teror chorizo and a few leaves of mint, which my grandparents grew, and then close the sandwich. In the other hand I would hold a peeled banana, and I would take one bite from each hand, in turn; one from the left and one from the right, making sure that both lasted until the very end. I used to love that mixture of sweet and savoury.”

Taking this memory from his early years and adding some new ingredients, he has turned his very original sandwich into a more subtle, fresher dish. Cristóbal finalised his recipe four years ago. “I replaced the bread with a savoury crepe, and added other ingredients such as Canarian tomato, gofio cheese and cured ham.”

The result is a very colourful, warm dish that combines the fresh tastes of tomato and crepe with the intense, salty flavours of the ham and chorizo, and adds the sweet touches of banana, tomato jam and melted cheese. It is a homage to his homeland, and particularly to those summers in Telde.

In der anderen Hand eine geschälte Banane. Und dann biss ich abwechselnd hinein. Einen Biss rechts und einen links, immer im gleichen Rhythmus, denn beide mussten bis zum Ende reichen. Diese süß-salzige Mischung hatte es mir angetan”.

Auf der Grundlage dieser Kindheitserinnerung und unter Hinzufügung einiger weiterer Zutaten, um das ursprüngliche Brötchen in ein raffiniertes und frisches Gericht zu verwandeln, fand Cristóbal das endgültige Rezept vor nunmehr vier Jahren. “Ich ersetzte das Brot durch einen salzigen Crêpe und fügte weitere Zutaten hinzu, wie kanarische Tomaten aus dem Garten, Käse mit Gofio und iberischen Schinken”. Das Ergebnis ist ein sehr buntes Gericht, in dem die Frische der Tomate und der Crêpe mit dem intensiven und salzigen Geschmack des Schinkens und der Paprikawurst kombiniert sind, mit einem süßlichen Hauch von Banane, Tomatenmarmelade und geschmolzenem Käse. Eine Huldigung seiner Region und besonders der Erinnerungen an die in Telde verbrachten Sommer.

1. Einen salzigen Crêpe mit Minze verfeinern: Dem salzigen Crêpe-Teig eine Handvoll Minze hinzufügen und ziehen lassen. Der Teig wird in einer Pfanne gebacken.

2. Füllung für den Crêpe: Den Crêpe mit Chorizo de Teror bestreichen, aufrollen und zur Seite legen.

1. Intensificar un crep salado en hierbabuena: a una masa de crep salado se le añade un manojo de hierbabuena y se deja reposar. Se cocina la masa en una sartén.

3. Käsebonbons: Einige GofioKäsewürfel in Teig für Frühlingsrollen wickeln und dann braten. Die Bonbons kommen auf eine Grundlage aus Tomatenmarmelade aus dem kanarischen Garten.

3. Caramelitos de queso: usando pasta de rollito de primavera, se envuelven unos dados de queso de gofio y se fríen. Los caramelitos se montan sobre una base de mermelada de tomate de la huerta canaria.

4. Plátano: se pelan uno o varios plátanos y se cubren de una loncha de jamón ibérico y de una de queso de fundir (puede ser Cheddar o Edam). Con el horno a 180 grados se introducen durante tres minutos.

5. Se emplata y se añade una vinagreta de aceite de oliva y vinagre balsámico. Para el toque decorativo se espolvorea con polvo de millo (maíz secado y triturado).

4. Peel a banana and cover with a slice of Iberian cured ham and another of cheese (one which melts easily, like Chedder or Edam).

Cook for three minutes in an oven at 180ºC. 5. Serve, adding a vinaigrette of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. For a decorative touch, dust with millo (dried, powdered maize).

na estructura de hierro y cristal convirtió en el siglo XIX al mercado del Born en un edificio fácilmente reconocible, una muestra de la modernidad y del ánimo de adaptarse a los nuevos tiempos. Ahora, la recuperación del antiguo edificio hace que vuelva a abrir sus puertas, esta vez como centro de espectáculos culturales y como armazón para mostrar el yacimiento de las ruinas de 1700. El Centro Cultural del Born fue inaugurado el año pasado, doce años después de que comenzaran los primeros trabajos arqueológicos. Bajo el techo de cristal del antiguo mercado se han cambiado los puestos de alimentación de antaño por las calles en ruinas de Vilanova del Mar: la ciudad del Born.

La estructura diseñada en 1876 por Josep Fontseré fue la primera de una serie de mercados con edificios metálicos como el de Sant Antoni, el de la Barceloneta o el de la Concepció. Sin embargo, a pesar de ser el de Born el precursor, no consiguió despegar. Ya sea la

An iron and glass structure, built in the late 19th century, made the old Born market into an iconic and easilyrecognizable site, a flagship project for a changing city that was embracing modernity. Now, the building has been refurbished and is open to the public again, this time as a centre for cultural projects and exhibitions, and as an archaeological site for displaying medieval and early modern remains. The Born Cultural Centre opened last year after twelve years of archaeological excavation. Under the glass roof of the former market, the food stalls of old have been replaced with the ruined streets of Vilanova del Mar: the city of Born.

The structure, built in 1876 to a design by Josep Fontseré, was the first of a series of metal and glass markets in Barcelona. Later would come the Sant Antoni, the Barceloneta Market and the La Concepció Market. competencia –Barcelona contaba con 16 mercados en 1897- o la concentración del negocio en el de la Boquería –tenía el 40% de la recaudación total-, el resultado fue que, tras una breve reconversión en el nuevo mercado de mayoristas de frutas y verduras, tuvo que acabar echando la persiana en 1971.

Ahora, el Centro Cultural del Born cuenta con dos espacios donde se realizan exposiciones, otro de uso polivalente y otro más para recepción y restauración. La exposición permanente cuenta con 1.500 objetos que forman parte de los 3.500 que se han recuperado de la excavación con el objetivo de mostrar cómo era la ciudad de la época.

En su origen el proyecto de restauración del mercado tenía por finalidad construir una biblioteca provincial, pero finalmente la aparición de restos hizo que se desechara el proyecto. En el subsuelo del Born se encuentran ahora al descubierto los restos de la ciudad tras la batalla con las tropas de Felipe V una vez acabada la Guerra de Secesión, que han sido catalogados como Bien Cultural de interés nacional.

Now the Born Cultural Centre has two exhibition spaces, a multi-use space and another for receptions and catered events. The permanent display has 1,500 objects, the most interesting of the 3,500 recovered from the excavations, to show how life was when the area was abandoned in the early 18th century.

The restoration project was originally intended as the creation of a local library, but the appearance of the well-preserved ruins meant that this idea was dropped. The Born subsoil is now open to show the remains of this old district of Barcelona, abandoned after the War of the Spanish Succession, now registered as National Cultural Heritage.

Die Restaurierung der Markthalle sollte ursprünglich in den Bau einer Provinzbibliothek münden. Dieses Projekt wurde jedoch verworfen, als die ersten archäologischen Funde gemacht wurden. Unter der Markthalle El Born sind nun die Reste der Stadt nach der Schlacht gegen die Truppen von Philipp V. als letztem Akt des spanischen Erbfolgekrieges - freigelegt.

Sie wurden als Kulturgut von nationalem Interesse eingestuft.

Nuevos hoteles en Barcelona

Clasicismo y diseño se unen en los dos nuevos hoteles que H10 Hotels inauguró el pasado 2013 en la Ciudad Condal, donde ya cuenta con 11 establecimientos.

n las memorias del poeta Pablo Neruda se describe una nueva especie de agua, única en el planeta, escondida debajo de la selva mexicana. Pozos enormes y salvajes, cuyas laderas llenas de vegetación tropical dejan ver en el fondo un agua verde y cenital. Los dzonot son aguas subterráneas en el interior de profundas cavernas. Bellas formaciones que la permeabilidad de la roca caliza que recubre la península de Yucatán, tras el paso de la lluvia, pasó millones de años construyendo y ocultado en el subsuelo.

El florecimiento de la cultura maya se cimentó en el hallazgo de estas ventanas al manto acuífero. La aridez fue vencida gracias a estas aberturas terrestres, el recurso que por fin les permitía obtener agua fresca en la selva. Para ellos dzonot significaba ‘abismo’, ‘profundidad’, pronunciado cenotes por los primeros españoles que quisieron mentarlas. Para la

The rise of the Mayan culture was made possible thanks to their discovery of these gateways into the aquifer level. The limestone rock of the area opens wide to reveal these water-filled caves. A kaleidoscope of turquoise, indigo and emerald waters filter the sun, reflecting the shapes of stalactites and stalagmites. The Riviera Maya, in southern Mexico (Puerto Morelos, Akumal and Tulum) is full of these fantastic grottos. It is estimated that there are around 6,000, each between 10 and 60 metres deep. Según un estudio que ha realizado una importante consultora inmobiliaria, Palma de Mallorca es la segunda mejor ciudad del planeta para vivir, después de Dubai. Lógico si tenemos en cuenta que se han fijado en el clima, los días de sol al año, el ocio de rancio abolengo y los buenos restaurantes.

Palma, por si no lo sabías, es la capital de ese archipiélago llamado Baleares. De sus 400.000 habitantes, uno de cada cinco es de fuera de España. De acuerdo con el estereotipo, los alemanes, que llaman a la isla “el decimoséptimo Länder” son los más numerosos, seguidos por búlgaros, italianos y marroquíes.

Para envidia de estas nacionalidades, España es el único de los países que logra colar dos ciudades dentro del top ten. The world’s second best city

Let’s say that you are thinking of moving. While you are after the perfect place, would you get the advice from a real estate expert? Well, according to a study carried out by a major property consultancy, Palma de Mallorca is the world’s second best city to live in after Dubai. This is the logical conclusion of considering the climate, the number of days of sun per year, the well-established leisure options and the excellent restaurants.

Palma, in case you didn’t know, is the capital of the Balearic Islands. It has 400,000 inhabitants, with one out of every five of these from outside Spain. The stereotypes are at least partly true, and the most numerous community is the German one (they call the island ‘the seventeenth Länder”), followed by the Bulgarian, Italian and Moroccan ones.

Spain, to the envy of other nations, is the only country with two cities on this top ten. The Spanish capital, Madrid, concludes the list, unable to compete with the combination of 300 days of sun, ten quality international schools, five restaurants with Michelin stars and the international airport that Mallorca can offer.

Das Ocean Blue&Sand in der Dominikanischen Republik bekommt einen neuen Look

Éxito en nuestro proyecto de eficiencia energètica

Dicen que hay que renovarse o morir.

Y siguiendo esa filosofía, el pasado mes de enero, el Ocean Blue&Sand llevó a cabo una completa renovación de su imagen. Ubicado en primera línea de playa en Punta Cana, este hotel ha reformado la mayor parte de sus instalaciones. Y se han incorporado nuevos espacios como el Piano Bar, un gazebo de bodas y el nuevo restaurante romántico BlueMoon.

Es heißt, man soll sich neu erfinden oder sterben. Gemäß dieser Weisheit hat das Ocean Blue&Sand letzten Januar eine vollständige Umgestaltung erfahren. In dem direkt am paradiesischen Strand von Punta Cana gelegenen Hotel wurde der Großteil der Einrichtungen wie die Empfangshalle, die Lobby Bar, das Restaurant Carey und die Zimmer neu gestaltet. Außerdem sind neue Bereiche hinzugekommen, so z.B. die Piano Bar, ein Hochzeitspavillon und das neue Restaurant Blue Moon.

Para ello, hemos puesto en marcha un importante proyecto de ahorro y eficiencia energética en el H10 Rubicón Palace de Lanzarote.

Con este fin, se ha invertido en una nueva instalación de biomasa, la primera en estas dimensiones montada en la isla de Lanzarote.

Gracias a ella, el hotel está dejando de emitir 879 toneladas de CO2 al año y se ha reducido la energía consumida en ACS (agua caliente sanitaria) en un 50%.

The new spaces include the Piano Bar, a wedding gazebo and the new BlueMoon restaurant.

Success in our energy efficiency project Protecting and respecting the environment is everyone’s duty, and we at H10 Hotels take that very seriously. So we have undertaken an important energy saving and efficiency project at the H10 Rubicón Palace in Lanzarote.

We have invested in a new biomass facility, the first of its size installed on Lanzarote. Thanks to this, the hotel is emitting 879 tons of CO2 less each year, and has reduced its consumption of energy for heating water by 50%.

Dos nuevos hoteles abrirán sus puertas en Barcelona durante los próximos meses.

Ambos tendrán la categoría de 4 estrellas superior y estarán situados en el centro de la ciudad. En mayo de 2014 se inaugurará el H10 Art Gallery, ubicado en pleno corazón del Eixample, con 91 habitaciones, terraza en la planta superior, plunge pool y jardín en la planta baja. Y en julio abrirá sus puertas el H10 Rambla Catalunya, junto a la Plaza de Catalunya, cuya decoración estará inspirada en la Catalunya Industrial del siglo XIX y contará con 90 habitaciones, terraza con plunge pool, salones de reuniones y Wi-Fi gratuito en todo el recinto, entre otras comodidades.

Two new hotels will open in Barcelona in the next few months. Both will have the 4 star superior category and both will be located in the city centre. May 2014 will bring the inauguration of the H10 Art Gallery, located on the Eixample, with 91 rooms, rooftop terrace, plunge pool and garden. In July the H10 Rambla Catalunya, next to Plaça de Catalunya, will open; it will have 90 rooms, conference halls, and excellent facilities including free Wi-Fi throughout.

Das Dekor ist angelehnt an das industrialisierte Katalonien des 19. Jahrhunderts.

Das Hotel hat 90 Zimmer, eine Terrasse mit Plunge Pool, Konferenzsäle und gratis WLAN im gesamten Areal.
