EcoBalanza is a custom handcrafted upholstered furniture manufacturer, specializing in natural and non-toxic materials (with no petrochemicals and flame retardants), and skilled craftsmanship.

Located in Seattle’s Sodo neighborhood, every piece is made by hand with the finest materials, sourced locally whenever possible.

We work with interior designers, commercial properties, and residential customers to create furniture that fits perfectly into the space it was designed for. With a master designer on hand to deconstruct any design idea, we believe that we can make any custom upholstery dream come true.

We also have our own Collections designed by our studio team.

IF YOU CAN IMAGINE IT, WE CAN CREATE IT We handcraft each piece for your needs and can personalize it to make a piece that is truly one-of-a-kind.

Start with one of our Couture Collection pieces, or we can also build entirely custom pieces, based off of photographs, drawings and conversations with our master designer, or designs of your own. Our ability to make your vision come true is our greatest asset.

For each piece that we create, you can select seat cushion density and construction type from a wide variety of options. As a starting point, we recommend natural latex in soft, medium, or medium firm, and wrapped in wool for extra comfort, according to your personal comfort profile. For an extra plush seat, we recommend premium down filling.

With over a decade of experience in hand-construction, we have experience meeting unconventional client needs, from working around limitations like wool and latex allergies, to providing pieces with vegan construction, and without metal coiling.

COMMITTED TO YOUR VISION We have created a network of partnerships with wood- and metal-crafting artisans, who accompany us in our journey to make your vision become reality.

While our specialty is upholstered furniture, there are times when wood detailing or metal components require us to look to these specialists to ensure that the quality of the work commissioned meets our rigorous standards.

When a large scale project requires design cohesiveness across multiple pieces, some of which are not upholstered, we can collaborate with these partners to have all of your pieces made.

Your EcoBalanza pieces are individually handcrafted by skilled artisans who apply careful and laborious but time-honored techniques that machines simply cannot replicate. That is why we offer a life-time guarantee on the structure of everything we build.

We honor and use a variety of techniques that have been developed over the centuries and have been passed down from masters to apprentices to create beautiful pieces that will last a lifetime, and beyond.

WHY NON-TOXIC? For you, your family, your home, your workplace, and also our environment.

Some examples: _ Many manufacturers use plywood or particle board to built their frames. These are often made with formaldehyde-based glues, a carcinogen that can outgass and cause allergic reactions.

Our advice: choose exclusively kiln-dried solid harwood, preferably FSC-certified.The kiln-drying process will prevent any warping or bowing. Hardwood has a better fire resistance, and is more durable.

_ In conventional furniture, whatever called, the foam in the cushions is made of petroleum-based polyurethane, a highly flammable product. To correct this, toxic and cancer causing flame retardants are added. Moreover, this synthetic foam in the cushions breaks down over time. This results in dust containing chemicals polluting indoor air.

Our advice: choose GOLS-certifed natural Dunlop latex for the cushions’ core, then wrapped into organic wool that plays naturally the role of flame retardant. Organic natural latex does not require any fertilizer or pesticide to grow and it is biodegradable! And, unlike other foams, organic latex breathes, and is mold-mite-mildew resistant. Thanks to its high elasticity quality, natural latex does not depress or rut over time. Your cushions will keep their initial shape, magic!

How come?

_ Many of the chemicald used to dye and finish fabrics to give them easy care properties are known

_ Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) from adhesives and stains used to create the furniture pollute

to harm human health, and they are dissolved in the wastewater expelled by textile mills.

Our advice: choose exclusively non-toxic fabrics with GOTS or Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification, safe for your health and for those who produced the fabrics.

CHOOSING SUPPLIERS WITH INTEGRITY We are passionate about sourcing only the cleanest and most responsible materials for your space, sourced with quality and integrity in mind.

Along the way, we have built relationships with farmers and materials processors, all to assure community and resiliency across a network of sustainable suppliers.

That is why we only buy non-toxic materials that have been certified by third parties which allows us to have full visibility into the chain of custody.

Indeed, we care deeply not only about the safety of these materials, but also the environmental and social impacts of every component that goes into an EcoBalanza piece.

OUR CREDENTIALS To offer you the cleanest option for your space, while minimizing the environmental impact of production throughout the supply chain, we only work with ethical third-party certified suppliers who are as commited as to preserving the environment while operating in a socially conscious way as we are.

We provide transparent documentation of all of our components.
