Mission Statement:

To promote the health and welfare of the horse through the education and professional enrichment of the equine veterinary technician and assistant.

The Objectives and Purpose of the AAEVT • To promote and provide relevant and accessible continuing education opportunities to equine veterinary technicians, assistants and support staff focusing on all aspects of equine veterinary medicine and practice management.

• To provide resources and educational venues that will enhance the health and welfare of the horse by improving the skills and knowledge of equine veterinary technicians, assistants and support staff.

• To encourage and improve communications between equine veterinary technician and assistants through a network which promotes sharing of ideas, expertise and employment opportunities.

• To promote and maintain professionalism and ethical behavior among all equine veterinary technicians and assistants and to improve the development of the vocation.

• To provide resources and leadership for the benefit of the veterinary community and the equine industry which it serves.

• To be informed on legislative matters affecting the equine veterinary profession.

• To educate the public and the veterinary profession about the benefits gained employing and supporting trained equine veterinary technicians, assistants and support staff.

• To promote and maintain the professional relationship between the AAEP and the AAEVT.

Sponsorship of the AAEVT As a non-profit organization, the AAEVT relies on (in addition to membership) corporate sponsorship for financial support. These sponsorships serve to support programs such as continuing education meetings, membership benefits, scholarships, newsletters/media production and website maintenance.

Education and Media Partners

The Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) is a Founding Partner with the AAEVT. The AAEVT has designated the AAEP Foundation as our Charity and supports the very important work sponsored by this Foundation. We are a Media Partner with THE HORSE and have formed educational partnerships with several veterinary associations to extend further CE opportunities for our members.

Formed in 2004, our mission is to provide education, networking and professional enrichment of our members and to be an advocate for our profession.

Membership in the AAEVT is available to all veterinary technicians, assistants, support staff and those employed or seeking employment in the veterinary health care industry worldwide. Student membership is offered to any person enrolled in an AVMA/CVMA-accredited veterinary technology program.

AEVNT

The Academy of Equine Veterinary Nursing Technicians (AEVNT) is the first species-specific veterinary technician specialty recognized by the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA).

Credentialed applicants who succeed in meeting the advanced criteria for the Academy, including submitting a detailed application, case logs, case studies, mastery of an extensive skills list and passing an examination, are conferred with the credentials “VTS-EVN.”

AAEVT ACT Online Certification Program

This program provides basic to advanced education on the core competencies for students, equine veterinary assistants or veterinary technicians.

Coursework is self-paced. Along with online courses, participants must show proficiency in a list of clinic skills, and they must attend an AAEVTsanctioned continuing education event, which includes a wet lab and evaluation of horsemanship skills. The entire program can be completed within approximately six months, and those who receive their certificates of completion are recognized as AAEVT Certified Equine Veterinary Technicians/Assistants (“AEVT” or “AEVA”) depending on their current status.
