After a successful initial period, Bill Newman passed away and the Club faced a difficult time. In 1960,Don James joined the Club as Secretary. The determination of Don and many others resulted in a change of fortunes for the team both on and off the pitch. Don has now been with the Club for 62 years and his fantastic efforts were rewarded in 2014 as the main stand was renamed the “Don James Stand”. Success followed and the Club won the South Wales Amateur League First Division in 1975, 1976 and 1977 as well as South Wales Intermediate Cup in 1975 and 1977. The Club entered the Welsh League in 1977. Malcolm Frazer joined the Club the same year and his hard work was recognised in 2017 with the unveiling of a new stand brandishing his name. In 1996 Norma Samuel became the Club’s Secretary having previously been a committee member and has been another tremendous servant ever since.

Under the management of our now Chairman, Lee Bridgeman, the Clubs’ most successful spell in recent times saw the Club finish Division One runners up in 201112 and 2012 13 and winning the Nathaniel MG Cup four times in five seasons; 2011 12, 2012 13, 2014 2015 and 2015 16. In 2018 19 Taffs Well Youth side won the Welsh League Youth Division and in 2021 22 our development team won the South Wales and National Development Championships. The revised JD Cymru South began in 2019 and last season saw the first team finish in seventh position.

Following the end of World War II, Elan Gough and Bill Newman initiated the idea of merging local clubs to improve the facilities and playing standards than experienced pre war. This idea was warmly welcomed and Taffs Well AFC was born. The Club was a key member of the South Wales Amateur League.

Nathaniel MG Cup

We progressed through to round 3 of the Nathaniel MG Cup match with a good win over Cwmbran Celtic. Travis James, Daniel Dina and Michael McCalmon all made their first starts. We began brightly creating several early chances and took the lead on 11 minutes following a good run down the left by Michael McCalmon. He crossed low into the box, it beat several players, Chris Jones retrieved the ball and chipped the keeper as he came out to close Chris down. Celtic equalised on 17 minutes when Steve Cann tried to beat a player but lost the ball and it was teed up for Alex McDowell to score. We went back in front on 25 minutes, Danny Dina took a throw in which was headed on and Chris Jones at the far post netted his second. Josh Webber made it 3 1 on 40 minutes when he latched on to a long ball and left the Celtic defence behind. His right footed shot was too powerful for the Celtic keeper who was injured in trying to make the save. He continued to half time but was substituted at the interval. Carlos Indjai netted on 51 minutes following a Lido attack that had broken down but we regained possession and Carlos sidefooted the ball into an empty net. Celtic now pushed forward looking to get back into the game but Steve Cann made a good save conceding a corner. Further pressure from Celtic saw a couple of shots just miss the target before they reduced the arrears on 75 minutes. The ball was played into the box and a Lewis Iles header beat Cann. Spurred on by this Celtic pressed forward but were unable to score, two minutes from time Lido caught them on the break and the speedy Webber was on hand to slot home his second to secure the result.

The draw for the south was made last night, it is as follows Afan Lido V Pontypridd Penybont V Ammanford Taffs Well V Haverfordwest Cardiff Met V Aberystwyth
