Manchester - Friday 11th November Employer Guide

WE’RE HEADING NORTH TO

TACKLE THE PROBLEM HEAD ON

Following the huge success of our Social Mobility Factory in London back in April, this November we’re heading to Manchester to bring The 93% Club to the North.

This time, we’ll be tackling the issue of levelling up. What does this government buzzword really mean? And what can we do outside of London to move the needle on social mobility?

If one thing’s for sure, it’s that the levelling up agenda is critically important for the UK. According to the latest statistics:

Children receiving free school meals in London are at least 2x as likely to go to university as those receiving free school meals elsewhere in the country.

The proportion of pupils gaining 5+ A*-Cs in London is between 5 and 7 percentage points higher than other regions of the country.

Graduates in the North East on average earn £29,000 while those in London earn £40,000.

HOW WE’LL DO IT

At our exciting new LEVELUP event, we’ll bring students, employers, academics and business leaders together for a day of learning, discussion and networking.

The day will kick off with an intro to levelling up and what it means in the context of social mobility.

We’ ll then host a discussion with an expert panel to delve deeper into the problem and how it impacts organisations, students and graduates.

Of course, we’ ll also be providing our signature employability support to our students in the form of workshops and the chance to get a LinkedIn headshot.

Our careers funfair concept will return for this event, with employers hosting funfair stalls with games, CV clinics, activities and much more!

We’ve invited a secret speaker to host our keynote conversation before we close off the day with a drinks reception for our students to network with each other and with our employer partners.

Nobody has a greater proportion of state-educated students than us. As the original network for state-educated university students, our employers get to meet a diverse group of high-potential students at all our events. At our last event, our student attendees were: 93% State educated (<1% went to independent schools, the rest went to school outside the UK) 66% First in family to university 40% Eligible for free school meals 62% Identify as women 23% Identify as LGBTQ+ 47% Black, Asian or minority ethnic
