ELSTOW CHAROLAIS STUD We would like to extend a very warm welcome to Elstow’s 8th Annual Bull & Female Sale.

We are delighted to offer this draft of bulls and females in our catalogue.

Our aim is to breed cattle with a strong polled constitution,structurally sound and fertile with excellent length, softness and the ability to fatten and finish easily. We also like to low birth weight,easy calving and good temperament. Our cattle do not have their hooves trimmed.

This year we purchased Palgrove Natural a homozygous polled red factor sire, we liked him because he is a very correct bull, who has the much sought after Canadian sire TR Redsmoke genetics.

This years drop of sale bulls were born in drought conditions but that has not taken anything away from the great line of 30 bulls that are ready to go to work.

From the first week of May and until the sale date they are being prepared on a paddock of oats.

We have had all our sale bulls tested for the homozygous gene and several have returned positive to this gene which means they will always throw a polled calf.

We invite you to come to Elstow on sale day Monday 24th August to inspect our sale bulls and females.

SALE INFORMATION Location: Elstow Charolais Stud is located on the Baradine Gwabegar Rd. 8km south of Gwabegar or 33km north of Baradine, Turn into Merebene Rd, 3km turn right in to “Elstow”.

Inspection: All cattle will be available for inspection from 10am on sale day, with the aution to commence at 1pm. Prior inspection can be arranged by contacting the vandor or preferred agents.

Lunch & Morning Tea: Will be available on the day.

GST: Is to be added onto the purchase price at the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer. You will be invoiced purchase price plus GST. Rebate: 3% rebate will be offered to outside agents introducing buyers in writing 24 hours prior to the sale and attending the sale with the client.

Helmsman system/Auctions Plus: The sale will be conducted using the Helmsman System. Online bidding will be available through Auctions Plus.

Delivery: Delivery can be given at the completion of the sale. All care will be taken of the cattle prior to delivery however no responsibility will be accepted. Animals awaiting transport or delivery will be held free of charge for a maximum period of 14 days A Buyer’s instruction slip: must be completed by the purchaser or representative and handed to the agents in charge prior to leaving the sale. No verbal instruction will be accepted.

SALE INFORMATION Insurance: There is no vendor insurance on sale bulls. It will be the responsibility of the purchasers to insure their bulls, Insurance representatives will be in attendance at the sale and can offer insurance terms on sale bulls.

Health: All sale bull catalogued have been semen tested and examined for structural soundness. All cattle receive 7 in 1 vaccinations and backline with Cydectin. Elstow is a JBAS 6 for Bovine Johnes Disease with no know cases & is a beef only self replacing herd.

Raw Data: All bulls will have Scan Data available prior to the sale for eye muscle area (EMA), rump and rib, marbling (IMF%) as well as sale weight and scrotal measurement.

Terms And Conditions: Terms of the sale are as per Conditions of Sales, NSW Stud Stock. A copy will be available sale day.

Guarantee: All sale animals have been evaluated for structural soundness and fertility. To the best of our knowledge the bulls are in sound at the working order and females are reproductive sound at the time of the sale. Any claim against the breeding ability or a structural breakdown of any animal must be made in writing and accompanied by a Veterinary Certificate within six months of the sale date. Any animal failing to breed may be either replaced with an animal of similar value(if available) or credit made available to the value of the purchase price, minus salvage value,as a refund. The purchaser will be responsible for any costs incurred.

Covid - 19: Please follow directions and safety signs on sale day in regard to Covid 19 We will be working within current guidelines as set by the Australia Government.

The HornPoll test is used to determine whether an animal is ‘true poll’ (homozygous PP), or is a carrier of horned genetics (heterozygous -PH). The polled variant of gene (P) is usually dominant to the horn variant of the gene (H), which means poll animals may either PP or PH. Homozygous -PP- animal will always pass a copy of the polled variant to their offspring, increasing the likeihood that the offspring will be polled. Identifying breeding animals that carry two copies of the polled variant will dramatically reduce the requirement for dehorning in subsequent generations.

Is poll always dominant to horned? In Bos Taurus breeds, polled is almost always dominant to horned;-PP- animals are always polled and -PH- animal are usually always polled (they are sometimes scurred).

The Elstow cattle have always been run in a mobs not indivadual lots. They have been mustered on Motor Bikes, we here at Elstow do not use horses or dogs on our cattle.

If possible when you get your bull home put him with some cattle until he gets used to his new home.
