Простір для близькості Space for Intimacy

Ми ущільнюємося. Вектор людських переміщень не змінювався протягом століть: із сіл у містечка, із міст у мегаполіси. Половина людства вже живе в містах, мегаполіси ростуть та поглинають усе новіші території та нових мешканців. Зовсім скоро наша планета перетвориться на один великий метрополіс.

всезагального порозуміння не стається. Технології наближають родичів, що живуть на різних континентах, в той же час віддаляють найближчих. На зустрічі з друзями та коханими ми так часто відволікаємося порахувати лайки від незнайомців. Ми опинилися на відстані кліку одне від одного, проте екран розділив нас.

Місто наближує фізично, проте важко знайти людей більш віддалених, ніж пасажири ваґону метро у годину пік. Конкурентна боротьба за особистий простір змушує нас опускати очі, будувати стіни та паркани. Робінзон Крузо більше не страждає від самотності на безлюдному острові та не поспішає додому – він насолоджується омріяною розкішшю усамітнення.

На чотири весняні дні ми запрошуємо вас вийти з-за індивідуальних екранів та сісти по один бік спільного екрану «86». У цьогорічній програмі ми розмірковуємо про відстані та стіни, про те, чи можуть міста запропонувати щось окрім відчуження та чи можливе справжнє наближення. Тут, у Славутичі, ми створюємо місце для уважного споглядання та слухання, змістовного говоріння та співпереживання.

We’re condecing. The vector of human movement has not changed for centuries: from villages to towns, from towns to megapolises. Half of human population already lives in cities, megapoli are growing and consume new territories and new inhabitants. Pretty soon our planet will become a single large megapolis.

City makes us closer physically, but it’s quite hard to find people more distant than passengers of a metro car during the rush hour. Competitive struggle for a personal space makes us to lower our eyes, build walls, and fences. Robinson Crusoe isn’t suffering because of loneliness on an uninhabited island anymore, he’s not eager to get back home, he’s enjoying the cherished luxury of privacy.

Due to the increasing human density, the intensiveness of interaction also increases: the technologies provide a possibility to embed ourselves into a mega network, but universal mutual understanding isn’t happening. The technologies make us

closer to relatives who live on different continents, but at the same time they make the close ones distant. Meeting friends and loved ones, we are distracted by counting likes from strangers. We’re now one click apart from each other, but the screen separated us.

For the four spring days we’re inviting you to get away from the individual screens and sit together in front of the one big common screen of “86.” In this year’s program we’re musing about distances and walls, as well as figuring out whether cities are able to give us anything other than alienation and whether real intimacy is possible. Here, in Slavutych, we’re creating the place for a careful observation and listening, meaningful speaking and empathy.

Наймолодшому місту України Славутичу цього року виповнюється 30 років. Сьогодні Славутич – це сучасне українське, європейське місто, яке поступово перетворюється з міста посткатастрофи на місто нових ідей, соціального та культурного оптимізму, сталих міських реформ. Славутич є одним із першопрохідців культурної децентралізації – у невеличкому, затишному містечку вже вчетверте проходить Міжнародний фестивалю кіно та урбаністики «86». Унікальна інфраструктура та міський простір, а також його історичний зв’язок із Чорнобильською АЕС, тісно переплетені з основними темами фестивалю: урбаністика, навколишнє середовище та енергетика. Фестиваль досліджує ці теми в міждисциплінарному розрізі за допомогою документальних фільмів, воркшопів, дискусій і мистецьких проектів, а славутичани та гості міста сповна відчувають свою причетність до нових урбаністичних перетворень. БЛИЗЬКІСТЬ – тема четвертого «86». Програма фестивалю буде спробою з’ясувати, що таке близькість, як можливий цей утопічний досвід у сучасному місті — між самотністю і тоталітарним колективізмом. Сьогодні Славутич продовжує тримати марку міста, ідеального для спокійного, комфортного й неквапливого життя. Близькість до природи, чисте повітря, високий рівень благоустрою та інфраструктури, відсутність громадського транспорту позитивно впливають на якість життя у Славутичі. The youngest town in Ukraine, Slavutych, celebrates its 30th birthday this year. Today Slavutych is a modern Ukrainian and European town, which gradually turns from the post-disaster city into the town of new ideas, social and cultural optimism, and urban reforms.

Slavutych is one of the pioneers of cultural decentralisation: a small, cosy town has the delight to host the International Festival of film and urbanism “86” for the fourth time. The unique infrastructure of the city, the urban space and its historical connection with the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is closely intertwined with the main themes of the festival, such as urban, environmental and energy studies. The festival explores the themes in an interdisciplinary context using documentaries, workshops, discussions and art projects, and citizens and guests of Slavutych fully experience their involvement in the new urban transformation.

INTIMACY is the theme of the fourth “86.” The festival will try to find out what

intimacy is, and if that utopian experience between loneliness and totalitarian collectivism is possible in the modern city. Today Slavutych is still ideal for a relaxing, comfortable and leisurely life.

Proximity to nature, clean air, high level of welfare and good infrastructure development, the absence of public transport, positively affect the quality of life in Slavutych. We invite you to feel the proximity and take a closer intimate look at yourself, films and Slavutych.

У вечір відкриття Міжнародного фестивалю кіно та урбаністики «86» ми запрошуємо вас зручніше розташуватися на галявині у центрі Славутича, аби насолодитися призахідним сонцем і дозволити нам потурбуватися про звуковий супровід сутінкового міста. Ми гратимемо класичні орґанні твори, сучасну електронну музику, співатимемо середньовічні арії й розповімо вам історію про близькість [propinquitātem] яка прославляється [laudate] музикою. Юлія Ландау – керівниця та солістка зали орґанної музики у Славутичі, учениця орґанного класу заслуженої артистки України Ольги Дмитренко, брала участь у майстер-класах професора Маркуса Віллінґера (Німеччина) та Геріберта Метцґера (Австрія). за плечима якої два студійні релізи і численні виступи у різних країнах світу. Знайомство Юлії та Маргарити відбулося на початку 2017 року, і вони одразу взялися до роботи. Протягом першої тижневої сесії, яка відбулася у Славутичі, дівчата старанно вибудовували співпрацю, поглинаючи літри чаю та обговорюючи музичні смаки у пошуках дотичних точок між двома досить відмінними музичними світами. З’ясувалося, що скласти програму, компонуючи класичні і сучасні твори, які будуть зрозумілими слухачам – завдання досить складне. Тож під час другої сесії, вже у Києві, дівчата склали програму, спираючись на емоційну і чуттєву складову творів, які роз’яснюють, підтримують і доповнюють один одного, висловлюючись різними інструментами.

In the opening night of the International Festival of Film and urbanism “86� we invite you to make yourselves comfortable on the lawn in Slavutych downtown, to enjoy the setting sun and allow us to take charge of the sonic accompaniment to the town in twilights.

We will play classical pieces for organ, modern electronic music, we will sing arias, and will tell a story about intimacy [propinquitÄ tem] which is being glorified [laudate] with music.

Yulia Landau is a head and soloist of the Slavutych hall of organ music, she was a student in the organ class of the honored artist of Ukraine Olha Dmytrenko and participated in the workshops of Professor Marcus Willinger (Germany) and Heribert Metzger (Austria).

Yulia and Marharyta met each other in the beginning of 2017, and started their work right away. During their first session week, which took place in Slavutych, the girls were carefully developing their collaboration, drinking liters of tea and discussing tastes in music, trying to find common ground between the two rather different musical worlds.

As it turned out, putting together a program consisting of classical and modern pieces that would be recognizable for the listeners is a pretty difficult task. So during the second session, in Kyiv, the girls composed the program in accordance with emotional and sensual parts of the pieces, which explain, support, and mutually complement each other while speaking in different musical instruments.

Marharyta Kulichova is also known as Grisly Faye. A composer and an actress who has two studio releases and a number of concerts in different parts of the world.

Цей чотирихвилинний фільм досліджує нашу реакцію на сетереотипи – звукові, візуальні та ідеологійні. Сміт подає стереотипи глядачеві головно через асоціативний ряд, що вправно маніпулює нашими очікуваннями. Структура неймовірно проста й оманливо тонка. Ми мандруємо від одного усталеного стереотипу до його цілковитої протилежності через образи, що транформуються й співставляються таким чином, що наша інтерпретація побаченого й почутого повністю змінюється.

This four-minute film explores our response to stereotypes – aural, visual, and ideological. Smith signals these stereotypes to the viewer through a chiefly associational system, which deftly manipulates the path of our expectations. The structure is stunningly simple and deceptively subtle. We are taken on a journey from one concrete stereotype to its diametric opposite, as images transform and juxtapose to, ultimately, invert our interpretation of what we see and hear.

A short documentary about the beauty of wild dancing, and a portrait about Kostya, the young singer of post-punk band Running with Scissors, who desires to never leave Slavutych.

Кіно – наймолодший вид мистецтва. Славутич – наймолодше місто в Україні. Молодь знає про своє місто те, з чого точно можна зробити кіно! Фестиваль «86» запроcив юних славутичан і славутичанок до участі в кіноурбаністичному експерименті. Ми шукали несподівані теми, цікавих героїв і новий погляд на місто. «21 x Нью-Йорк» – це особистісний портрет міста та його жителів. Ми зустрічаємо героїв у нью-йоркському метро та слідуємо за ними на поверхню, дізнаючись про їхні життя, бажання, пристрасті, надії та мрії – часом втрачені, часом в очікуванні втілення. Відтак, перед нами постає емоційна оповідь про самотність, що супроводжує наш західний світ у ХХІ столітті.

“21 x New York” is an intimate portrait of the city and its people. We meet the characters in the NYC subway and we follow them to the surface finding out about their lives, cravings, passions, hopes, and dreams – sometimes lost and sometimes still waiting to be fulfilled. What comes out of it is an emotional tale of solitude that haunts us in 21st century western world.

Народився 1976 року. Закінчив відділення Суспільних наук Варшавського університету й курси документалістики у Школі Вайди. Співзасновник Асоціації мистецьких ініціатив «ę» – громадської організації на підтримку культурних рухів у маленьких містах. Читав лекції у «Кіносадку» Школи Вайди та був президентом Асоціації молодих польських кінематорграфістів «Фільм 1, 2». Серед його останніх фільмів: «Щоденник подорожі» (нагороди на Лаґувському МКФ та Docudays UA, а також спеціальна відзнака Краківського МКФ) та «Останній день літа» (нагороди фестивалів goEast, Flahertiana, Camerimage та DocFilm).

Born in 1976, graduated from Department of Social Sciences at the University of Warsaw. He completed documentary course at Wajda School. He co-founded the Association for Artistic Initiatives “ę,” an NGO supporting cultural undertakings in small towns. He lectured at Film Kindergarten at Wajda School and was the president of Young Polish Filmmakers Association Film 1, 2. His recent films include “A Diary of A Journey” (awards at Łagów IFF, Docudays UA, and special mention at Kraków IFF) and “The Last Day of Summer” (awarded at goEast, Flahertiana, Camerimage, and DocFilm).

In a province small town a road junction is being built. It hangs over the buildings and the people. Two young girls, schoolmates, make a video blog about it while hoping to move out of this place for good.

Режисерка трьох ігрових і двох документальних короткометражних фільмів, які брали участь у різних міжнародних кінофестивалях. Була учасницею міжнародної програми для молодих кінематографістів Generation Campus та міжнародної лабораторії для режисерів, організованої Алєксандром Сокуровим. Була членкинею студентського журі міжнародного кінофестивалю «Послання до людини» (Росія).

Director of three fiction and two documentary short films that participated in various international film festivals. She was a participant of the international program for young filmmakers Generation Campus and the international lab for directors organized by Alexander Sokurov.

She also was a students’ jury member at the Message to Man Film Festival (Russia).

Великий мур The Great Wall

«Китайський мур був закінчений у найпівнічнішій його частині». Так починається «При будові китайського муру» Кафки, а фільм розпочинається на мілітаризованому південному кордоні Європи. Від меж Європи «Великий мур» рухається укріпленими краєвидами, зупиняючи погляд на тих, чиї життя виявилися обрамленими відчуженням. Пересуваючить углиб, ближче до центру влади, фільм розглядає європейський проект під сліпучим кінематографічним світлом, пропущеним крізь таємничий текст Кафки.

“The Great Wall has been completed at its most northerly point.”

So begins Kafka’s The Building of the Great Wall of China, but, at Europe’s militarized southern frontier, begins the film.

From Europe’s edges, “The Great Wall” moves across fortified landscapes, pausing with those whose lives are framed by exclusion. Moving inward toward the seat of power, the film holds the European project up to a dazzling cinematic light, refracted through Kafka’s mysterious text.

Тайґ О’Салліван Tadhg O’Sullivan

Тайґ О’Салліван – кінематографіст і саунд-мистець, що живе в Карлові (Ірландія). Працюючи з документальними та експериментальними жанрами, у своїй роботі він досліджує відносини між індивідами та суспільними структурами влади. Його перший повний метр Yximalloo (спільно з Фірґалом Вордом) було показано на багатьох міжнародних фестивалях і здобув головний приз МКФ FiD-2014 у Марселі. 2015 року він здобув кіностипендію Мистецької ради Ірландії.

Tadhg O’Sullivan is a filmmaker and sound artist living in Carlow, Ireland. Working within the documentary and experimental film traditions his work often explores the relationships between individuals and societal structures of power. His first feature film “Yximalloo” (co-directed with Feargal Ward) was shown at numerous international film festivals, winning the Prix Premiere at FiD Marseille in 2014. He received the Arts Council of Ireland’s Film Bursary in 2015.

Фільм-роздум на тему зникнення тюрем у часи масового ув’язнення. «Тюрма в дванадцяти пейзажах» розгортається як подорож низкою неприкметних американських місць, у яких в’язниці досі працюють і впливають на життя: від каліфорнійського узгір’я, де тюремниці борються з тамтешніми невгамовними лісовими пожежами, до зборів гравців у шахи на Мангеттені, які, відсидівши, стали майстерними гравцями, і до апалацького вуглевидобувного містечка, що ставить на кін власне майбутнє, покладаючись на тюремну працю.

A meditation on the prison’s disappearance in the era of mass incarceration, “The Prison in Twelve Landscapes” unfolds as a journey through a series of ordinary places across the USA where prisons do work and affect lives: from a California mountainside where female prisoners fight the region’s raging wildfires, to a congregation of chess players in Manhattan who did their time becoming masters of the game, to an Appalachian coal town betting its future on the promise of prison jobs.

Її перший повнометражний фільм «Доленосна земля» потрапив як на міжнародні екрани, так і на канадське та американське телебачення. Зразки її журналістської та кінокритичної діяльності можна знайти у таких масмедіа, як CBC Radio, The Nation Magazine та The Toronto Review of Books. Має ступінь доктора філософії з географії, нині наукова працівниця в Центрі з питань місця, культури та політики в Міському університеті Нью-Йоркського центру випускників.

Brett Story is a writer and independent non-fiction filmmaker based in Toronto and New York. Her first feature-length film, “Land of Destiny,” screened internationally and was broadcast on both Canadian and American television. Her journalism and film criticism have appeared in such outlets as CBC Radio, the Nation Magazine, and the Toronto Review of Books. Brett holds a PhD in Geography and is currently a postdoctoral research fellow at the Center for Place, Culture, and Politics at the City University of New York Graduate Center.

Неподалік від Лондона, проте на краю світу для багатьох, біля гирла Темзи розташоване місто Саутендон-Сі. Новий фільм Джема Коена, який запам’ятався відвідувачам «86» торік своїм фільмом «Лічба», витворює потрет цього населеного пункту – вуличні будні, буденні птахи, невтомні припливи, багно та небеса. Quite close to London, but for many, a million miles away, Southend-on-Sea is a town along the Thames estuary. “World Without End (No Reported Incidents),” the new documentary from Jem Cohen is a portrait of this place – everyday streets, everyday birds, unflagging tides, mud, and sky. But it is also about humanity and history, about prize-winning Indian curries, an encyclopedic universe of hats, and a nearly lost world of proto-punk music.

Michał Marczak is a Polish director, cinematographer and documentary filmmaker. He studied directing at the California Institute of the Arts and is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań.

His feature-length film “Fuck For Forest” is considered to be the most highly screened Polish Documentary of 2013.

Michal directed “At the Edge of Russia,” a feature length, hybrid fiction-documentary which garnered him the HBO Emerging Artist Award and Filmakers Award at Hot Docs and numerous other accolades at festivals worldwide.

Moritz Schulz lives in Freiburg and works as a creator and director for the production company Earlybirdpictures. In 2005, he moved out of Berlin to study History, Political Science, and Islamic Studies at the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg. Parallel to his studies, he started to work on his own film projects. Among them, the poetic documentary “Gehsteige,” which has gone on to be screened at several festivals. Subsequently, he worked as creator and co-director of the film-essay “Paradigma.” In 2012 he began an editorial traineeship at the regional TV station TV Südbaden.

After completing his traineeship, he worked for various production companies, on documentary film projects.

When Howard Brookner lost his life to AIDS in 1989, the 35-year-old director had completed two feature documentaries and was in post-production on his narrative debut. 25 years later, his nephew, Aaron, sets out on a quest to find the lost negative of “Burroughs: The Movie,” his uncle’s critically-acclaimed portrait of legendary author William S. Burroughs.

When Aaron uncovers Howard’s extensive archive in Burroughs’ bunker, it not only revives the film for a new generation, but also opens a vibrant window on New York City’s creative culture from the 1970s and ‘80s, and inspires a wide-ranging exploration of his beloved uncle’s legacy.

In 2014, Brookner created a video installation in London. “Uncle Howard” is his first feature-length documentary.

But it was also a place for legends and anecdotes.

“The Hotel” is the last part of a trilogy about travelling. The first two were “The Atlantic” and “The Lighthouse.”

As a filmmaker Kristian Petri has made both documentaries and fiction films.

His first two shorts “Förr i världen” and “Sprickan” were both selected to the Semaine de la critique in Cannes. “Details,” a feature film based on a script by Lars Norén, was awarded a Guldbagge. The documentary “The Atlantic” was awarded the Gothenburg International Film Festival’s Nordic Film Prize and also received a Guldbagge.

“The Summer“ was officially selected to Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes and was awarded a Guldbagge for best female lead. In 2010, Petri directed the psychological thriller “Bad Faith” that was selected to Toronto International Film Festival.

He composes a self-portrait in which the splinters of a fractured generational tale are visible; it is a group picture, the image of a neighborhood and a city.

Луганський медичний університет переїхав у Рубіжне. Потяг зупиняється в місті рівно на дві хвилини. Далі – Лисичанськ, кінцева. А звідти недалеко до Сєвєродонецька – батьківщини клею ПВА. Кожна людина у цьому місті знає, що таке полівінілацетат. А за ним Щастя. По один бік – блокпост, по другий – кордон з зарубіжжям.

The Luhansk Medical University moved out to Rubizhne. A train stops in the town exactly for two minutes. Next stop is terminal, Lysychansk. It is not far from Sievierodonetsk, the birth town of the legendary PVA glue. Every person in this town knows what polyvinyl acetate is. Right next to it, there is another, called Shchastia. On the one side there is a checkpoint, on the other – the border, the frontier.

Якщо рухатись вздовж рубежу, рано чи пізно дістанешся моря. Так, одного травневого дня на пляжі Маріуполя від дресирувальника втік крокодил. Восени його знайшли в Азовському морі в районі викиду теплих стічних вод Азовсталі. Крокодил добре знав, де рибне місце.

If you move along the frontier, sooner or later you will reach the sea. And so, once, in May, a crocodile escaped from the trainer in Mariupol. In autumn, the creature was found in the Azov Sea near the place Azovstal Factory dumps its warm wastewaters. The crocodile knew very well where the coziest place is.

Віктор Марущенко живе і працює в Києві. Співзасновник приватної незалежної інформаційної аґенції «Укрпрес», а також ґалереї Foto Nostra. З 1999 року – голова київської організації Спілки фотохудожників України. З 2004-го очолює «Школу фотографії Віктора Марущенка». Учасник групових виставок в Україні та за кордоном. Його персональні виставки проходили у Швейцарії, Німеччині, Канаді, Словаччині, Молдові, Росії та Україні. Роботи Марущенка увійшли до антології світової фотографії Images.

Viktor Marushchenko lives and works in Kyiv. Cofounder of the private independent information agency Ukrpres, as well as the Foto Nostra gallery.

Participant of the collective exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad. His personal exhibitions took place on Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Slovakia, Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine. Marushchenko’s works are featured in the Images anthology of the world photography.

METASITU

METASITU – мистецько-урбаністичний дослідницький колектив, заснований Лівою Дударевою та Едуардо Кассіною, що розвиває інноваційні урбаністичні стратеґії та систематизує знання про те, як люди інтеґруються до урбаністичного простору й взаємодіють з ним.

METASITU вивчає різноманітні способи, в які ми населяємо (урбаністичні) території, здебільшого засобами відеоарту, наукових досліджень і лекцій. METASITU is an art and urban research collective founded by Liva Dudareva and Eduardo Cassina that develops innovative urban strategies and systematizes the knowledge of how people integrate into urban space and interact with it. METASITU explores the varied ways in which we inhabit (urban) territories, largely through video art, research, and lectures.

Their work has been exhibited at The Venice Biennale, Kunsthalle Wien, Izolyatsia, tranzit.hu, CCA Glasgow, and The Strelka Institute among others.

Ostap Kostyuk is a director, actor, and musician. He was born in 1979 in Kolomyia, Ivano-Frankivsk region.

Worked as an actor at Les Kurbas Lviv Academic Theater and at the Song Workshop Artistic Center. He is also a musician and the co-creator of such music projects as BAI. Hutsul Mystery, Banda Arkan, Tatosh Banda and Hych Orkestr. Director of the film “Living Fire” which won an award at the Hot Docs Film Festival.

John Smith was born in Walthamstow, London in 1952 and studied Film at the Royal College of Art, during which time he became involved in the activities of the London Filmmakers Co-op. Inspired in his formative years by conceptual art and structural film, but also fascinated by the immersive power of narrative and the spoken word, he has developed an extensive body of work that subverts the perceived boundaries between documentary and fiction, representation and abstraction. Often rooted in everyday life, Smith’s meticulously crafted films playfully explore and expose the language of cinema.

Since 1972 Smith has made over fifty film, video, and installation works that have been shown in independent cinemas, art galleries, and on television around the world and awarded major prizes at many international film festivals. He received a 73

Подібно до інших кіноробіт, створених британськими мистцями у 70-х, фільм «Дівчина жує ґумку» створено як ідеологійне протиставлення масовому кіно. Головною метою фільму було підірвати притаманну йому ілюзорність, привертаючи увагу до штучності (на противагу поширеній практиці маскувати її). Фільм привертає увагу до кінозасобів, заперечуючи їхнє існування, подаючи репрезентативність як цілковиту самодостатню реальність. Мета досягається завдяки використанню закадрового голосу задля руйнації зчитуваності зображення.

Like many other film works made by British artists in the ‘70s, “The Girl Chewing Gum” was made in ideological opposition to mainstream cinema. A primary aim of the film was to undermine its inherent illusionism, drawing attention to its own artifice (rather than the conventional practice of attempting to disguise it). The film draws attention to the cinematic apparatus by denying its existence, treating representation as an absolute reality in its own right. It achieves this by using a voice-over to subvert the reading of the image.

Імпровізація зафільмована протягом одного дня – від світання до смеркання. Фільм монтувався просто в камері, а зйомка велася з однієї точки посеред одного зі 112 футбольних полів Гакні Марша – цю локацію обрано через схожість поміж навколишніми будівлями та об’єктами (ідентичні житлові будинки, футбольні ворота тощо). Поєднуючи точно дібрані кадри з подібними об’єктами, було досягнуто ілюзії руху, порушуючи репрезентативне зчитування краєвиду. Через дібрані кадри та зміни в швидкості монтажу й руху камери, фільм коливається між фіксацією та абстракцією.

An improvisation recorded over the course of one day, starting at dawn and finishing after dusk. The film was edited in camera and shot from one camera position in the middle of one of the 112 football pitches that cover Hackney Marsh, a location chosen because of the similarities between the surrounding buildings and objects (identical blocks of flats, goalposts etc.). By cutting between precisely matched framings of similar objects, illusions of movement were produced, disrupting representational readings of the landscape. Through selection of shots and changes in cutting pace and speed of camera movement, the film fluctuates between record and abstraction.

«Шкідник» оповідає про будівництво дороги Лінк-Роуд M11 у Східному Лондоні, що спровокувало тривалу та відчайдушну кампаню мешканців проти знесення їхніх домівок. Зображення у фільмі фіксують певні зміни, що сталися протягом дворічного періоду – від знесення будинків до початку будівництва автомобільної траси. Звуковий супровід поєднує природні звуки, пов’язані з описаними подіями, та уривки розмов із місцевими мешканцями.

“Blight” revolves around the building of the M11 Link Road in East London, which provoked a long and bitter campaign by local residents to protect their homes from demolition. The images in the film record some of the changes which occurred in the area over a two-year period, from the demolition of houses through to the start of motorway building work. The soundtrack incorporates natural sounds associated with these events together with speech fragments taken from recorded conversations with local people.

In an environment overloaded with information the signs run riot as the restless software does its best to fulfill its task, looking for French words to translate in places where there are none.

Архівна програма «Близькі контакти» – це добірка фільмів леґендарної кіностудії «Київнаукфільм», що піднімає тему комунікації та близькості в соціальних системах. Починаючи з 1960-х років під впливом свого ідеолога Фелікса Соболєва кіностудія висвітлювала широкий спектр проблем крізь призму наукового світогляду. Фільм «Мова тварин» розглядає розмаїті засоби комунікації серед комах, риб, птахів, плазунів і ссавців. Наукові дослідження різних сиґнальних систем відкривають для нас світ, мову якого ми не до кінця розуміємо. біологічних видів, досягти з ними взаєморозуміння й наближення. Archival program Close Encounters, composed of films produced by the legendary Kyivnaukfilm studio, is exploring the topic of communication and intimacy in social systems. Influenced by its mastermind Feliks Soboliev, since the 1960s the film studio has explored a wide range of issues through the lens of science.

The film “Animal Language” focuses on communication means among insects, fish, birds, reptiles, and mammals.

Through scientific research of various signal systems, we discover the world full of languages that we don’t quite understand. Faith in scientific progress fosters a utopian aspiration to come in contact with other biological species, reaching mutual understanding and closeness.

At the same time, “Contacts” and “Metamorphoses” reflect on the crisis of human communication and hindrances to close relationships that exist in contemporary cities. Social life in metropolis is full of superficial interactions and stereotypical reactions towards strangers, but it is this particular background that emphasizes existential need for intimacy and profound personal contact.

Царство тварин – невідома земля. Ми тут немов чужоземці. Ми не розуміємо мови цієї країни. Кажуть, колись давно жила людина, яка вміла говорити з тваринами – цар Соломон. They say, once lived a person who could talk to the animals, King Solomon. All peoples have fairytales with animals speaking with each other and with humans. In amazement, we’re looking at the world which considered long discovered. Animal language. It’s not human language, but special, sometimes completely unexpected ways of communication between animals…

A man addresses the strangers on a street, he asks them to talk to him. The strangers refuse under various excuses, but later on they are looking for the people to talk to in a meetings club. A film by one of Feliks Soboliev’s students, Viktor Olender, explores the crisis of human communication in big cities through a scientific standpoint, mass culture, and personal stories.

Leo up in the air and Alex on the ground, together they make an extraordinary team, protecting the journalist Marie and saving New York from destruction.

Що таке аудіотур

Аудіотур «Над прірвою у житі»

Аудіотур – це вид іммерсійного театру (від англ. Immersive – занурення), піонерами якого в Україні виступає група Pic Pic. Створення ефекту присутності є чи не основною вимогою у розважальній індустрії. Театр відповідає на цей запит своїми інструментами, пропонуючи глядачам (слухачам) зануритись у світ історії. Кожен учасник аудіотуру отримує навушники та приймач, через який транслюється сиґнал. У навушниках звучить голос, який має функцію нарації (розповідає історію), а також імперативу (вказує слухачу, що він повинен робити). Зазвичай, аудіотур проводиться у місті, що тим самим включає його до міждисциплінарної форми – архітектура, міська історія та мова, урбаністичні практики є важливими елементами іммерсійного театру.

В цьому аудіотурі ми намагаємось як належить відповісти на питання: як повернути собі місто, яке було твоїм у дитинстві. Ми допускаємо, що роки дитинства створюють особливу чуттєвість до сусідських вулиць, двориків, центру міста. Це по-дитячому вразливий емоційний ландшафт міста – зі своїми, контурами (кордонами), зі своїми та чужими (небезпечними) місцями. І коли ця інтенсивність чуттєва знижується (змінюється), нам здається, що ми втрачаємо своє місто, яке колись приносило стільки насолод. Тож в нашому аудіотурі «Над прірвою у житі» ми намагаємось зрозуміти, чи можна цю насолоду від міста повернути. Основою аудіотуру є історія дев’ятикласниці Юлі, яка терпіти не може свою школу. Вона часто свариться зі своїми вчителями, не розуміє своїх однолітків і ніяк не може поговорити зі своєю мамою. Юля часто втікає зі шкільних уроків і ходить до лісу, який оточує її місто. What is an audio tour

The Catcher in the Rye audio tour

Audio tour is the kind of immersive theater which is pioneered in Ukraine by the Pic Pic group. Creation of the immersive effect is probably the main requirement in the industry of entertainment. Theater responses to this request with its own instruments, offering the spectators (listeners) to dive into the world of a story.

Each participant of audio tour gets headphones and a receiver which picks up a signal. Voice in the headphones performs a narrative function (it tells a story), but also the function of imperative (it tells a listened what to do). Usually, an audio tour takes place in a city, and by this it is of a interdisciplinary nature: architecture, city history and language, urban practices – these are the important elements of the immersive theater.

In this audio tour we are trying to tackle the problem: how to get back the city which was yours in childhood. We presume that childhood years create a special sensitivity for the neighborhood streets, yards, and downtown. It is childishly impressionable emotional landscape of the city, with own people, outlines (limits), with native and alien (dangerous) places. So when such sensitive intensiveness goes down (changes), we think we’re losing our city, which used to bring so much joy. In out audio tour The Catcher in the Rye we’ll try to understand whether it’s possible to return this joy caused by the city.

The tour is based on the story about a teenager Yulia who hates her school. She often quarrels with her teachers, she doesn’t get her peers and can’t find the way to talk to her mom. Yulia often skips the classes to go to the woods around her city. Once she wandered too far off.

Місто Славутич складається з 13 кварталів, спроектованих і побудованих вісьмома радянськими республіками. Кожен квартал має стилістичну й архітектурну подібність до певного міста – Баку, Тбілісі, Єревана, Вільнюса, Таллінна, Риги, Києва, Бєлґорода, Москви й Лєнінґрада.

«14-й квартал» – це ідея створення у Славутичі нового простору, що відображатиме місто Афіни. Проект має на меті дослідити процес перенесення одного міського середовища в інше та ставить питання про те, чим може бути «квартал» у сучасному місті. Для цього було відібрано п’ятеро славутичан і сформувано робочу групу проекту, відповідальну за розробку концепції та планування 14-го кварталу. До групи увійшли Діна Алексашина, Ірина Брох, Сергій Рабчевський, Вадим Ракша та Катерина Шехтер.

Протягом кількох місяців учасники групи відвідували лекції та воркшопи, досліджуючи місцевий урбаністичний контекст та механізми роботи з публічним простором. Після цього вони поїхали у тижневу подорож до Афін, щоб побачити місто на власні очі та визначити, як саме відобразити його у Славутичі. На фестивалі «86» учасники проекту вперше публічно презентують свою концепцію 14-го кварталу. Крім того, під час фестивалю проходитиме мистецька виставка, що оповідає про хід проекту «14й квартал», зокрема про тиждень, проведений робочою групою в Афінах. Співавтори

The town of Slavutych is comprised of 13 districts planned and constructed by eight Soviet republics. Each district represents stylistic and architectural qualities of a certain city: Baku, Tbilisi, Yerevan, Vilnius, Tallinn, Riga, Kyiv, Belgorod, Moscow, and Leningrad.

For a few months, the Thinking Group participated in lectures and workshops, exploring the local urban context and approaches to designing public space. Then they went on a week-long trip to Athens in order to experience the city and decide how exactly to represent it in Slavutych.

14th District draws on the idea of a spatial intervention in Slavutych inspired by the city of Athens. The project aims to explore the process of translation of one urban fabric into another and reflect on the notion of ‘district’ in a contemporary city.

At the “86” Festival, the Thinking Group will make the first public presentation of their concept of the 14th District.

To achieve this goal, five Slavutych locals were selected, forming the Thinking Group responsible for conceptualizing and designing the 14th District. The group included Dina Aleksashyna, Iryna Brokh, Sergii Rabchevskyi, Vadym Raksha, and Kateryna Shekhter.

Moreover, during the festival, there will be an art exhibition focused on the evolution of the 14th District project and particularly the week that the Thinking Group spent in Athens.

METASITU will explore the existing urban processes to establish ‘an urban problem,’ who and what determines ‘urban success.’ The art collective will aim to provide a sense of cognitive emancipation and a brief overview of tools for critical thinking, in order to look beyond imported international ‘urban solutions’, challenge pre-established prototypes and devise unique solutions that may or may not be reproduced elsewhere.

METASITU is an art and urban research collective founded by Liva Dudareva and Eduardo Cassina that develops innovative urban strategies and systematizes the knowledge of how people integrate into urban space and interact with it.

METASITU explores the varied ways in which we inhabit (urban) territories, largely through video art, research, and lectures. Their work has been exhibited at The Venice Biennale, Kunsthalle Wien, Izolyatsia, tranzit.hu, CCA Glasgow, and The Strelka Institute among others.

Through dissecting the frameworks that question, shape, and reconfigure global metropolitan trajectories and imported ‘urban solutions’, METASITU will challenge the definition of the city’s ‘problems’ and critically query notions of ‘urban success’ when adopting and adapting solutions.

The relevancy of this topic is crucial in areas with an increasingly engaged citizenry concerned about their built environment and the mushrooming of ‘problem solving’ initiatives.

За останні кілька років концепція партисипації (громадської участі) в Україні стала своєрідним трендом. Її декларують громадські організації, органи місцевого самоврядування та міжнародні організації. Проте, часто ті, хто прагне використати переваги громадської участі у своїй роботі, виявляються неготовими до повноцінного проживання досвіду партисипації. При цьому, в колі активістів та професіоналів практично відсутня дискусія про складнощі та проблеми під час впровадження проектів громадської участі: аналіз помилок важко знайти у відкритому доступі, немає звички ділитися історіями невдач. Неуспіх сприймається як ознака непрофесійності, а не як необхідна частина розвитку.

Over the last couple of years the concept of participation in Ukraine has become a trend that is manifested by NGOs, development projects, local governments.

But here’s the rub: again and again NGOs, communities, and even international donors tend rather to declare participation, then fully to practice it; again and again communities become not to be ready to experience participation and value it’s gifts.

At the same time, the discussion about difficulties and problems concerning implementation of the community involvement projects is basically nonexistent among activists and professionals: failure’s analysis is hard to find in open sources, there is no practice to share the stories of failures. A failure is perceived as a sign of unprofessionalism, but not as a part of development.

The #openspaceworks team had prepared an learning exchange event in open space format. For three days it will allow to voice, discuss, and analyze in a safe environment the stories of failures and mistakes in the community involvement projects. During the event the participants will live through the personal experience of self-organization and participation, as well as reflect on their readiness and abilities to create a space for the real community involvement.

The program invites children and teenagers to discover together a special poetics of Slavutych, which feels like home and unites guests with the locals.

10- to 15-year-olds, both locals and Slavutych visitors invite to take part in the experimental research program Slavutysch: Home Visit. Together we’ll try to explore the meaning and understanding of intimacy in modern world through the experiment, research, and reenactment of everyday practices and individual rituals. We’ll look into the formation of private and public environments, and how their boundaries have changed over time, as well as thinking about limits of personal at home and in a city space. Moreover, we’ll try to understand how a place we are occupying affects our movements and interaction with space. Which kind of rhythms, movements, impulses, and pictures appear in different places, how body and space interact, and how closely could they contact with each other.

Duration of the program: from 29.04 till 101

1.05 (three days), from 11 a.m. till 4 p.m. with a break from 1 p.m. till 2 p.m.

3- to 8-year-olds will get to spend time under the supervision of teachers from the family café Kino. The space allows to find out about interesting professions inside the specifically created small buildings (store, bakery, workshop etc) which are filled with everything important to play, draw, and make new friends.

Special price for the kids of festival goers: 50 hryvnias/day (badge/bracelet/ticket must be presented). Opening hours: 11 a.m. till 7 p.m.

Ленд-арт програма фестивалю «86» акцентує увагу на природному середовищі міста Славутич та на екологічних відносинах між людиною і природою. Мета проекту полягає у виявленні території та її унікальності через інтервенцію у природний простір сучасних художніх об’єктів та інсталяцій. Я вважаю, що існує тільки одна реальність, і це природа. Місто ж тяжіє до вигадки. В силу своєї ірреальності місто протиставлене природі, і симптомом цього є забруднення довкілля. Марко Касаґранде, архітектор Ленд-арт виявляє близькість людини до природи та близкість природи до урбаністичного ландшафту. Програма досліджує кордони як фізичного, так і ментального проявів простору міста та прилеглого природного середовища. Land Art program of the Festival “86” points out at the natural environment of Slavutych, as well as the ecological relationships between humans and nature.

The goal of the project is to detect the territory and its uniqueness through intervention to the natural space of modern art objects and installations.

I think there is only one reality and it is nature. City tends to embrace fiction. Because of its unreality city opposes nature, the symptom of which is environmental pollution.

Marco Casagrande, architect Land Art unravels the closeness of humans to nature, and nature to urban landscape. The program studies boundaries of both physical and mental manifestations of a city space and connected natural environment. The artist debunks the myth about the binary system of nature and city by using the local context.

Closeness of different environments

epitomizes endless compromises, borrowings, and interaction. Humans are the subject that models such connections.

Eight invited artists from Ukraine, Belarus, and Georgia will create the art objects on the Slavutych town border.

У тренажерній залі учасники аудиторії перебувають разом із шістьома виконавцями в декораціях катастрофи. В таких обставинах вони за допомогою відеокамер, хореографії, мови, звуку та піротехніки відтворюють різні катастрофи з нещодавньої історії. Вибух 1986 року на Чорнобильській АЕС постає лише початковою точкою для «постійного стану катастрофи», в якому ми як ціле покоління відтоді перебуваємо. Перформанс ґрунтується на інтерв’ю, проведених ув Австрії та в Україні. У цих інтерв’ю з різними людьми з різними долями, перше питання завджи звучало однаково: «Як ви пов’язані з Чорнобилем?». In a gym the audience-members find themselves together with six performers in a fictional catastrophe-setting. In this setting they re-enact with live-cameras, choreographies, language, sound, and pyrotechnics various catastrophes in recent history. The 1986 nuclear fallout of Chernobyl acts a mere starting point for a ‘permanent state of catastrophe’ in which we as a whole generation have since been living in.

Людина – істота, що користується переважно аудіо- та візуальним каналами сприйняття, часом забуваючи чи іґноруючи пізнавальні можливості свого тіла та його здатність до комунікації. Але навіть сучасні технології не змінюють людську природу. Людська близькість – це спектр почуттів, в якому є місце ніжності і різкості, довіри і остраху, єдності та конфлікту. The contemporary person is living in the world where the technology enables us to get intimate with anything, but the possibilities and circumstances which allow an actual touch are scarce. Human being is a creature who predominantly uses audio and visual channels of perception, sometimes forgetting or ignoring cognitive abilities of one’s own body and its capacity for communication.

Yet even the modern technologies can’t change the human nature. Human intimacy is a specter of feelings which has a room for tenderness and harshness, trust and distrust, unity and conflict. Performance provokes the question of human relationship’s versatility, showing things that are usually stay out of the verbal contact boundaries.

Recently she released her fourth album of neoclassical ambient on Kranky Records. Christina pays a lot of attention to combination of music and space, especially while performing live, “Concerts is a kind of sonic installation. Both place and especially audience create a power comparable to music, a unique combination of energies.”

Beside electronic music she writes for theater and collaborates with Ukrainian experimental folk project MOKOSHO, with them she toured Japan.

The artist works within musical art, noise, industrial, experimental stage. He also creates art installations and sound sculptures. For 20 years he performs and exhibits his art pieces all over Europe. Dr. Nexus is known for his punk appearance. It is hard to describe the sound of his art, but such definitions as ‘hyper spasms of beats and noises,’ or ‘mental miniskirt’ would suit the best.
