Take A Stand is a call to action meant to bring attention to the issue of domestic violence for Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) and throughout the year. By taking a stand we intend to remind the nation that there are still countless people-victims and survivors, their children and families, their friends and family, their communities--impacted by domestic violence. We, all of us, should not stop until society has zero tolerance for domestic violence and until all 9 victims and survivors can be heard.

Nonpoint Source (NPS) pollution generally results from land runoff, precipitation, atmospheric deposition, drainage, seepage or hydrologic modification. NPS pollution, unlike pollution from industrial and sewage treatment plants, comes from many diffuse sources. NPS pollution is caused by rainfall or snowmelt moving over and through the ground. As the runoff moves, it picks up and carries away natural and human-made pollutants, finally depositing them into lakes, rivers, wetlands, coastal waters and ground waters. •Nonpoint source pollution can include: Excess fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides from agricultural lands and residential areas •Oil, grease and toxic chemicals from urban runoff and energy production •Sediment from improperly managed construction sites, crop and forest lands, and eroding streambanks •Salt from irrigation practices and acid drainage from abandoned mines •Bacteria and nutrients from livestock, pet wastes and faulty septic systems •Atmospheric deposition and hydromodification States report that nonpoint source pollution is the leading remaining cause of water quality problems. The effects of nonpoint source pollutants on specific waters vary and may not always be fully assessed. However, we know that these pollutants have harmful effects on drinking water supplies, recreation, fisheries and wildlife. https://www.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2016-10/documents/nps_program_ highlights_report-508.pdf 17

Cars parked across from the alleyways impede this process and increase the chance of private property being damaged. Can you please help us out? On service days, please ensure your vehicle is not parked in this area. Code Compliance will be notified about repeat offenders.

Did you know that you can receive a citation for letting your dog run loose? Avoid receiving a citation by taking the following precautions:  

Keep your dog and/or cat contained in your yard. Dogs must be held by a leash at all times in a park or public playground, except in park areas designated and posted by the City of Lancaster to be "dog friendly areas", such as the Dog Park at City Park across from the Golf course.

The City of Lancaster ordinance (Sec. 22.06.004) prohibits leaving or parking a motor vehicle, boat or other impediment on any public street or alley between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. within ten (10) feet of a mailbox, except a United States Postal Service vehicle, and except on Sundays and federal holidays.

Effective February 19, 2018, all dogs and cats 4 months and older are required to be microchipped. ENFORCEABLE BY CITATION.

Lancaster Eyes and Ears Program (LEEP) The City of Lancaster Code Compliance Division is seeking volunteers to join the

Blowing or leaving grass clippings and other yard waste in the street is ILLEGAL (Ord. Sec. 24.05.006). The LEEP program will primarily perform duties in the field identifying code violations for code officers to perform further investigation. Essential duties and responsibilities: Patrol assigned areas to identify code violations such as: Excessive accumulation of trash and debris; parking of vehicles, boats, trailers on unimproved surfaces; high grass and overgrown weeds/vegetation; junk vehicles; illegal dumping and litter; and illegal placement of signs. To join or for more information contact the City of Lancaster Code Compliance Division at 972218-1200.

22

Why? Besides being a code violation, leaves and grass clippings can clog the City’s storm water drain system. When drains are clogged with clippings and debris, rain water can come backup and flood homes and property. Also, storm drains empty into our creeks and river unfiltered and untreated. What should I do with clippings? • Blow grass clippings back onto the lawn, where they become a mulch and natural fertilizer. • Collect clippings and leaves into compost pile. Clippings are excellent compost for gardens. • Sweep, collect and bag clippings and leaves and dispose of properly. How to report it? For more information or to report violations, call Code Compliance at 972-218-1200 or 22 email codecompliance@Lancaster-tx.com.
