COMMANDER’S CORNER Welcome to the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast and home to the 81st Training Wing. My name is Lt Col Katie Kuc and as the commander of the 81st Force Support Squadron (FSS), let me extend a warm welcome to current residents and new students, families, and guests to Keesler Air Force Base.

For those who have transitioned to the area and are seeking employment, we have many different positions available in the FSS to suit your interests and experience. Visit usajobs.gov to see all available openings and to submit your application.

As summer draws to a close, our community is gearing up for the start of a new school year. Before and After School Care is offered at the Youth Center for ages 5-12, as well as transportation to and from select local schools. Open to ages 9-18, the Youth Center Open Recreation offers a variety of Boys & Girls Club and 4-H programming. Be sure to stop by the Youth Center to register!

Also, don’t forget kids bowl free from now until September 2 at Gaudé Lanes Bowling Center.

The Bay Breeze Event Center (BBEC) is one of the ideal destination spots on Keesler AFB. Not only is it a place for group meetings and official functions, the BBEC offers breakfast and lunch options, an indoor playground, full-service bar, catering, and an incredible view of the Back Bay. Co-located is the Bay Breeze Golf Course, an 18-hole course situated alongside the Back Bay and the Keesler AFB flightline. We offer club rentals, a driving range, group and individual lessons, a fully stocked pro shop, and more. Our course offers spectacular views while perfecting your swing.

Bay Breeze Golf Course is excited to bring you to a higher level of excellence and can not wait for you to be a part of it.

We are regrassing our Tif Dwarf greens with Diamond Zoysia this summer. It is a new strand of Zoysia grass for putting

greens. The grass is shade and traffic tolerant, and very dense to inhibit the growth of any foreign material. It thrives to cutting heights as low as .085”.

Thus, we should see some putting speeds we’re not used to around here. Again, this all depends on a variety of factors, so please be patient.

January-April Winter growth season and course maintenance.

May Kill off greens, transition to temporary holes.

July Lay diamond Zoysia sod.

Requires 8-12 weeks to take root.
