ASUKA’S ADVICE
Ramen is enjoyed by many people, one of those people being, Asuka Tomoda. Tomoda was born in Japan and moved to the U.S. shortly after. She eats ramen very often
“I like ramen, I probably eat ramen at least once every other week,” Tomoda said. Because of how often she eats ramen, Tomoda has tried many styles of ramen.
“Shoyu ramen is my favorite, I hate salt ramen,” Tomoda said. Shoyu ramen is a flavor of ramen. The broth is made of soy sauce because of its simplicity many toppings can be paired with it. Tomoda like to put black sesame seeds, an egg, and meat in her ramen. Although she could cook her ramen, Tomoda prefers to use instant ramen
“When I don’t feel like cooking, I take a Sapporo Ichiban instant ramen from our pantry and make it,” Tomoda said, “It’s cheap and accessible, I always buy it at the Japanese store,”
Instant ramen is very accessible and can be easily purchased
In any convenience store but some brands are more “authentic” than others.
“Cup Noodles are good, but when it comes to ramen, they fall in their own category,” Tomoda said. Cup Noodles is an instant ramen brand manufactured by
Nissan, a Japanese company. They’re widely known for how unhealthy their noodles are. In their Original Chicken Flavor Ramen Noodle Soup, it contains only 290 calories, but 51% of the daily value for sodium.
“I would advise anyone who wants to try ramen, to go to a Japanese-owned restaurants. At the end of the day, instant ramen is tasty, but you’re never gonna get the same experience as you are when eating in a restaurant”
Tomoda said.
