Biotech Research and Incubation Center

Hsinchu, Taiwan

Surrounded by mountains, farmland, and open space, Zhubei Biomedical Park forms a beautiful research and incubation environment. The project, an 11-stories tall biomedical research building, and the Taiwan High Speed Rail Hsinchu Station will anchor the two ends of the central axis of the park.

The design is based on the concept of “bio-core”, which explores how architecture can inspire to behave like living organisms in response to its environmental conditions. The project provides a creative research platform for the biotechnology industry, while incorporating sustainable green energy, technological imagery and humanistic concepts, to elevate organic architecture to a level of holistic consciousness.

The building is designed for 3,000 users. Office and research/development spaces are primarily the main functions while dining hall, gymnasium, sport field, and a 300-seat auditorium are supporting common functions. 1200 cars and 900 motorcycles parking space are provided in the basements.

The building volume is divided into the north building and the south building, which give way to the century-old banyan tree square and the central green axis. The ground floor is opened into a public park, connecting the surrounding neighborhood and Taiwan High Speed Railway Hsinchu Station. The north office building has created several sky gardens, providing a comfortable and healthy office environment.

The design strategy combines multilevel and high-rise elements, utilizing functional modules within regulatory limits to create flexible office space units. These modules are stacked into threedimensional clusters, with shared atriums, aerial corridors, and stairs that encourage communication and reduce elevator use. The design also offers open outdoor spaces, addressing post-pandemic needs.

The planning emphasizes standardization and modularization, resulting in an efficient layout that accommodates various enterprises while minimizing the impact of high-rise structures. This third phase building provides a versatile, comfortable office environment that fosters innovation and collaboration within the industrial park.

The design concept regards manufacturing machines as technological artworks, and hopes to create a futuristic manufacturing factory. The main design area includes an office area, entrance display wall, production line, structural columns, structural beams, clean room, and industrial storage racks.

In terms of color scheme design, the manufacturing machines are designed in neo-green, which is Zoomlion’s corporate identity color, while the rest of the structure, flooring, walls, railing, are designed in gray tones. Metal plates with different textures are used in the column design, which hides many messy and different kinds of equipment and takes into account the needs of maintenance and operation.

Aiko Solar Shenzhen Manufacturing Campus

The project is a new generation highefficiency crystalline silicon solar production facility with an annual output of 16GW, focused on manufacturing next-generation N-type high-efficiency solar cells. The designed production capacity is 26GW.

The site includes Factory 1 & 2, an warehouse, a sewage treatment plant, a chemical warehouse, gatehouses, a vehicle shed, a power distribution building, and a GIS power control building. The project aims to achieve a photoelectric conversion efficiency of over 25%, reaching globally advanced silicon-based solar cell production standards. Future phases have also been designed to allow for seamless expansion.

GIA Project Review 2016

Biennial Portfolio of NCTU GIA

GIA Project Review is the biennial portfolio of NCTU GIA (Graduate Institute of Architecture, National Chiao Tung University). Serving as a medium to introduce the forefront of Taiwan’s architectural education to the world.

The structure of the portfolio responds to traditional culture with Chinese-style right-turning books. The exposed spine provides readers to link Chinese-style thread-bound books. On the reading system, the book is divided into Chinese and English: Chinese features black characters, read from right to left, and English features fluorescent green characters, read from left to right. In terms of contents, the book is divided into three systems: introduction (silver ink on black paper), studio works (coated paper), and events (uncoated paper).

WellingWater

Logo & Key Visual of SDME 2018

Facing global and local environmental issues, Team NCTUNICODE designs a prototype in both Dubai and Taiwan contexts. Under “Nation Agenda” and “UAE Vision 2021” in Dubai, “Environmental White Paper” and “Nuclear-Free Homeland 2025” in Taiwan, there’re some problems that urgently need to be solved immediately, such as air quality, water scarcity, and energy management for our sustainable future Earth.

Our prototype, ‘‘WellingWater’’ well-providing protection from the worsening environment. WellingWater filters the air offering fresh air, and water collected from the atmosphere offers a self-sustain and comfortable living space with clean energy. WellingWater as a housing type is not only facing social problems but also repairing the Earth’s environment.
