------------------------------------------------------Making rugged clothes is hard work. For 50 years, we have developed our range of functional work clothes and shoes. Today we’re one of Sweden’s leading producers of heavy work clothes.

DURABILITY

------------------------------------------------------Different garments often look quite similar. But if you look very closely, you can see big differences. Not just in the seams. To make our garments last longer, we buy fabrics, threads and zips from the world’s foremost suppliers.

DEVELOPMENT

------------------------------------------------------We listen closely to the market’s demands for function and quality. We have testers in various industries who help us adapt and improve our products. Our aim is for at least ten percent of our sales to come from products that have been developed over the previous 18 months.

TOUGH TESTING

------------------------------------------------------Destroying clothing is a great way to develop it! Our lab tests wear and tear, rip and pull resistance, colour fastness and shrinkage. We regularly check our materials at independent test institutes.

DISTRIBUTION

------------------------------------------------------Blåkläder has offices in many European countries and in North America. We sell our garments via retailers around the world. We are constantly training the people who sell our products to ensure a high level of service throughout the distribution chain.

------------------------------------------------------Different professions have different requirements for the fabric in their garments. We work with fabric producers worldwide to create materials that meet these tough demands.

------------------------------------------------------Blåkläder works hard to ensure the customer gets their order in full and on time. Thats why our warehouse covers 20,000m2 and holds appromxiately 1.5million garments. Its from this central hub we send garments worldwide.

SA 8000 LIFETIME WARRANTY

------------------------------------------------------Blåkläder is the only working clothes manufacturer that offers a lifetime warranty on its seams. Professional staff and modern equipment make this warranty possible. If a seam splits, as long as it has not been torn by sharp edges or tools, we will repair it or replace the garment. We consider a garment’s life span to be up until it has holes worn in it or is otherwise no longer useful.

------------------------------------------------------Our factories are SA8000 certified, which is a voluntary international standard that governs the social conditions of employees. SA8000 is based on ILO’s core conventions, UN’s declaration of Human Rights and UN’s convention on the Rights of the Child. This means that our factories are audited according to eight key areas: child labour, forced labour, health and safety, freedom of association and freedom of negotiation, discrimination, discipline and working hours and reimbursement.

THE PPE DIREcTIVEs STANDARDS Personal protective equipment is equipment that protects the wearer against one or more health or safety risks. In order to sell personal safety equipment in the EU, compliance with 89/686/EG, the European Directive regulating PPE products, is obligatory. The Directive regulates requirements concerning function, marking, technical documentation and the CE marking process. Pursuant to the Directive, personal protective equipment is divided into three categories: Category I - Protective equipment of simple design where the user can assess the protection level. Products from Blåkläder: Rainwear. Category II - Protective equipment that is neither simple nor complex and protects against medium risks. Products from Blåkläder: Warning (hi-vis) garments, safety shoes, protective gloves, knee protectors, flame resistant garments, blade cut resistance garments. Category III - Protective equipment of complex design that protects the wearer against dangers to life or serious permanent injury, where the user cannot detect the risk in time. Products from Blåkläder: Garments that protect against electric arcs. Protective equipment in categories II and III are type approved by a notified body and adapted to the majority of different harmonised standards. In order to sell PPE products, they must be CE marked. The CE mark means that a product is type approved and complies with the requirements set for personal protective equipment in Directive 89/686/EG. Thereby, the protective equipment can be sold in all EU and ESS countries. All of Blåkläder's PPE products comply with the requirements that are set in accordance with Directive 89/686/EG.

GORE-TEX® is based on the same basic principle: a membrane with millions of microscopic small pores many times smaller than a water droplet. These do not allow a single water droplet to penetrate but are sufficiently large to allow vapour molecules to escape, for example, moisture and perspiration.

When you are done drinking, WE TURN THE BOTTLE INTO CLOTHES CHOOSE RECYCLED POLYESTER! Now there’s an easy way to help the environment – choose work clothes made from recycled polyester. With advanced technology we melt down used PET bottles and spin them into thread. The resulting polyester weave is extremely durable, comfortable and environmentally-friendly. The end result consists of 55% recycled polyester and 45% cotton (weight 268 g/m2). Polyester is manufactured using oil with chemicals such as naphtha, xylenes, acids and glycol. The manufacturing process also uses a lot of energy. Recycling polyester minimises these negative effects.

There is a lot to gain from choosing recycled polyester:

90% reduction in power consumption. 70% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. You’re making an active choice for a better environment. And you can take things full circle when you remember to return all your bottles!

Waterproof material in bad weather To find out how a garment will perform in bad weather, you need to know the levels of “waterproofness” and the “breathability”. Breathability

The amount of water vapor the fabric allows to escape from the inside to the atmosphere. This is measured during a certain period of time and under a certain amount of pressure. A high ‘value’ means a high breathability. The overall comfort of the garment depends upon the combination of waterproofness, breathability, design and fitting.

Waterproofness

We use a ‘water pillar’ test to determine how waterproof a garment is. We measure the water pressure created by a pillar of water applied to the fabric over a certain time. The amount it resists, before the first water drop penetrates the fabric is measured and a value given. The higher value, the more resistant the fabric is to water and in turn, the longer you can be outside in bad weather with rain or snow before you will get wet.

This dual-function garment combines the moisture-wicking properties of a synthetic undergarment with the heat insulation of woollen clothing. Our Heavyweight undergarments consist of two layers: an inner layer of channelknit polypropylene that wicks moisture from the body to the outer layer, where the fine fibres of the merino wool absorb it.

This multi-purpose garment has everything you could ever ask of a functional undergarment. The material consists of three layers: an inner layer of towelling loops of finest merino wool, an intermediate layer of polypropylene that wicks away moisture to the outer layer, where it is absorbed by merino wool. The Heavyweight Extreme helps your body’s internal thermostat regulate your temperature while keeping you warm and dry even in severe cold.

TRANSPORT – LAYER 1 This layer wicks away moisture from the skin. An undergarment of wool or channel-stitched synthetic material absorbs moisture and wicks it away. Wool also regulates body temperature well. In cold weather it warms, and when the body heats up it cools. That means it is perfect to use even in clothing for warm environments. Wool is somewhat self-cleaning. The wool’s natural creatine eliminates foul-smelling bacteria, so that the garment stays fresh longer.

INSULATE – LAYER 2 The intermediate layer insulates while wicking the moisture further away. As the temperature drops, the intermediate layer insulates against cold and lets you maintain your body heat. If you get hot and sweaty, regulate your temperature by lightening your intermediate layer. Put on a flannel shirt, a fleece garment or an artificial fibre undergarment. Our fleece garments combine style and function. Fleece warms when it’s cold. It’s also easy to wash, dries quickly and wicks away moisture from the body.

PROTECT – LAYER 3 This is the shield that protects you from cold, rain and wind. The breathing function releases moisture from inside so it can evaporate on the outside. Our technology is called WabTech. The material is lightweight, easy to care for, has taped seams and an especially durable surface layer. Real outerwear for hard work should have: Hidden cuffs at the end of sleeves and legs/Snow locks over zips/Spacious, easy-access outer pockets/Warming fleece lining in front pockets/Drawstring for adjustable waist/Removable lining/Zip all the way up the collar.

SHOES & SOCKS LAYER 1-3 If your feet become cold and wet you will freeze no matter what you have on the rest of the body. We recommend you wear functional socks that breathe and wick away moisture from the skin. Chose a shoe that matches your profession and the time of year. In addition to protecting against water and oil, the shoe should be able to breathe, which is why leather shoes are recommended rather than synthetic. Shoes should never dry close to a heat source, make sure you have at least two pairs of shoes so that one pair is always clean and dry when you need to go out to work.

Investing in attractive, uniform company clothing is a cost-effective way to do this. Blåkläder offers you a lighter-weight collection for service, industry and so on, and a heavier range for rougher professions. You have a huge choice of garments to embellish. There is no minimum order volume and the time from ordering to delivery is around 1 week depending on quantity and complexity. Just say the word if you want reflector strips, knee or leg pockets sewn on. Remember: In some cases, decals are not advisable. Garments with taped seams must not be marked with decals over the seams. The heat softens the glue and makes the tape come loose. Some linings can also be ruined by decal application with excessively high temperatures. Contact our customer service and check before labelling. In our high-visibility clothing with EN 471 certification, only some sizes are available due to certification requirements. Embroidering in garments that are wind and watertight causes the fabric to let moisture in. We recommend that you do not embroider in these garments.
