As we step into a new year, we’re reminded that every moment is an opportunity, not just to reset goals, but to renew intention. In the whirlwind of modern distractions and secular noise, the 5D Thinking Model offers a compass, pointing us back to what matters most: knowledge that connects, questions that awaken, and a worldview rooted in Tawheed.

This issue opens with bold reflections on the limits of secular science, tackling the illusion of physical laws and the psychological risks of therapy disconnected from the soul. Articles like “Guarding Tawhid in the Language of Causation” and “The Qur’anic View of Creation is NOT Creationist” push us to rethink the foundations we’ve taken for granted.

This difference is crucial. To understand it, imagine a beautiful palace filled with intricate designs, furniture, and food. A creationist would say, “Surely, this palace could not have built itself; it must have a maker who once constructed it.”

THE QUR’ANIC VIEW OF CREATION IS NOT CREATIONIST Dr. Necati Aydin As I read and reflect on the Qur’an each day, I am increasingly struck by its profound view of creation. The Qur’an is not creationist in the narrow, static sense that many assume. It does not speak of a universe that was created once upon a time and then left to operate on its own based on a fixed system and laws, as if it were a completed work of art pointing back to a distant maker. Rather, the Qur’an reveals a vision of dynamic creation, where the Creator is actively creating, sustaining, and renewing the universe at every moment to reveal Himself. “ ‫”ُكَّل َيْو ٍم ُه َو ِفي َش ْأٍن‬ “Every day He is bringing about a matter.”

Surah Ar-Rahman (55:29)

But the Qur’anic perspective is far deeper. It is as if one looks at the same palace and realizes: “This palace is being built right now, its walls are rising, its lights are shining anew, its decorations are being arranged again.

And just as it comes into being, it vanishes in an instant and is recreated again.”

It is like having very unstable ground: as you build a house, it lasts only for a day before collapsing. Then the kind builder reconstructs it again for you, day after day.

In reality, the universe is even more astonishing. It is being rebuilt every second.

Such continuous re-creation requires infinite knowledge, will, and power. From this ongoing act, I perceive that the Creator is not a distant architect who completed His work long ago. He is here, revealing Himself through His constant, ongoing, dynamic actions. He is not only the One who creates everything, but the One who keeps everything in existence. ” ‫“ُهَّللا اَل ِإَٰل َه ِإاَّل ُه َو اْلَحُّي اْلَق ُّي وُم‬

“Allah — there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence.”

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:255)

Nothing can bring itself into being, nor can anything sustain its own existence. The entire cosmic “palace” — everything we see and experience — would fall into nothingness were it not continuously upheld. This is why the Qur’an calls Him Al-Qayyūm, the SelfSubsisting, who keeps all things in existence, and Al-Khallāq, the Constantly-Creating.

He is also As-Ṣamad, the Absolute and SelfSufficient One: He needs nothing, while everything, at every moment, needs Him to remain in existence. Every atom, every form, every life depends entirely on Him. Without His sustaining will, all creation would vanish into nothingness.

As we read the Qur’an reflectively, we could point to hundreds of verses that unveil this truth: creation is not a past event but a living process, renewed at every instant. The universe is not a static artifact but a flowing, dynamic manifestation of divine will, power, and wisdom. “ ‫”ِإَّنَم ا َأْم ُر ُه ِإَذ ا َأَر اَد َش ْي ًئ ا َأْن َيُق وَل َلُه ُكْن َف َي ُكوُن‬ “His command, when He intends a thing, is only that He says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is.”

Surah Yā Sīn (36:82) Right before this verse, Allah describes

This verse beautifully affirms that Allah is Al-Khallaq al-‘Aleem, the Constant Creator, whose creative act never ceases.

It is not a one-time creation, but a continuous act of divine knowledge, will, and power that brings every moment into existence.

This understanding leaves no room for evolution in the materialistic sense. The Qur’an does not speak of life as something that once emerged and then evolved on its own.

Rather, it speaks of the continuous creation of life, the moment-by-moment bringing forth of living beings from nonliving matter, and ultimately from nothingness. Life is not an automated process but an ongoing divine act, a perpetual “Be!” that sustains all existence.

Every heartbeat, every atom, every breath exists only because it is being created and re-created right now. Existence itself is not a leftover echo from the past, it is a living sign of the Creator’s immediate presence.

Himself as: “ ‫َأَو َلْي َس اَّلِذي َخَلَق الَّس َم اَو اِت َو اَأْلْر َض ِبَق اِد ٍر َع ٰىَل‬ ‫”َأْن َيْخ ُلَق ِم ْث َلُه ْم ۚ َبٰىَل َو ُه َو اْلَخاَّل ُق اْلَع ِليُم‬ “Is not He who created the heavens and the earth able to create the like of them? Yes, indeed — He is the Constant Creator, the AllKnowing.”

The Qur’an’s Call to Continuous Gratitude Such an understanding also transforms how we appreciate everything. A creationist might walk into the palace and thank the Maker once, a single act of gratitude for a completed work, like paying the price of a house to its builder and then living in it for the rest of one’s life. But one who understands dynamic creation realizes that the palace is being built anew every moment. Every day, perhaps every instant, we receive a new palace, freshly designed and furnished by the Creator’s will.

Therefore, every moment becomes a new invitation to gratitude. Every breath, every heartbeat, every sunrise is not a repetition but a 5D Thinking Team renewal, a new gift calling for continuous appreciation.

The Qur’an invites us to notice this endless generosity: ”‫“َو ِإن َتُع ُّدوا ِنْع َم َت ِهَّللا اَل ُتْحُص وَه ا‬ “And if you try to count the blessings of Allah, you will never be able to number them.”

Surah Ibrahim (14:34) And in Surah Ar-Rahman, Allah repeats the question thirty-one times as a rhythmic reminder of our endless debt to His grace: “ ‫”َف ِب َأِّي آاَل ِء َر ِّبُكَم ا ُتَكِّذ َباِن‬ “Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?”

Surah Ar-Rahman (55:13, repeated 31 times) This repetition is not merely poetic; it is existential. It reminds us that at every moment, new blessings unfold, physical, spiritual, visible, and hidden. To recognize continuous creation is to awaken to continuous gratitude.

It is not a one-time payment of thanks, but a constant offering of awe and appreciation. For the One who constantly creates is also the One who constantly gives.

The more we reflect on this reality, the clearer it becomes that He is Al-Khāliq, AlQayyūm, Al-Khallāq, As-Ṣamad, and ArRabb, the One who never ceases to create, sustain, and govern all things.

In short, this Qur’anic understanding of creation, dynamic, continuous, and everrenewing, is best described not as creationism but as occasionalism. As Imam al-Ghazālī articulated, every event in the universe occurs not through material causes, but through God’s direct and unceasing will and power. Nothing exists or moves on its own; everything is an expression of His sustaining command.

To live with this awareness is to behold creation not as a finished artifact, but as an ongoing revelation, a divine act unfolding at every instant. It transforms ordinary existence into a miracle and every breath into an opportunity for gratitude. It reminds us that the One who brings a new universe into being each moment is ever near, sustaining all things through His infinite knowledge, power, and mercy.

This is precisely what the 5D Thinking Model seeks to nurture. Its purpose is to help learners witness the dynamic signs of the Creator in every moment of existence, as described in the Qur’an. It trains the mind and heart to see beyond appearances and feel the divine presence in all things.

Through 5D Thinking, students learn to read creation as a living revelation, to recognize that every atom, every heartbeat, and every sunrise is a direct act of Divine will and power. It guides them to connect deeply with the Creator, to sense His nearness, and to turn to Him for help in every moment.

CELEBRATING TWO YEARS OF THE 5D THINKING MAGAZINE Aisha Alowais What began as a spark in December 2020 has now become a glowing light that continues to spread across hearts, classrooms, and communities.

Alhamdulillah, this issue marks two full years of the 5D Thinking Magazine, and five years since the first-ever 5D Thinking Newsletter was released. Looking back, it is nothing short of awe-inspiring to reflect on how this journey has unfolded.

The 5D Thinking Newsletter ran faithfully for 25 issues, sustained with passion, commitment, and the support of our growing community. Those early editions were humble yet powerful, carrying bold ideas about de-secularizing knowledge, reconnecting education with Tawheed, and placing the Creator back at the center of learning.

In June 2023, the final newsletter issue was published. And by January 2024, we launched the first issue of what is now the 5D Thinking Magazine, a more visual, curated, and expansive format to reach broader audiences with greater impact.

Now, with this 12th magazine issue, we celebrate not only the milestone of publication but a growing movement, a family of educators, students, artists, and seekers who are walking this journey of reconnection together.

We have grown, not only in content but in clarity and conviction. We have explored everything from cosmic design to chemistry, from mental health to sacred art. We’ve reflected on divine names, challenged secular ideologies, and showcased real classroom practices. Most importantly, we’ve done it with you, our community. Many of our most powerful ideas have been born through collaboration, dialogue, feedback, and shared dreams.

It is moving to see how 5D Thinking has become not just a Model, but a way of seeing the world, through the lens of Tawheed, guided by Qur’an, and inspired by awe. It reminds us that reading the universe is not a luxury; it’s a command.

And education, when aligned with belief, becomes a spiritual act.

VOICES OF TRANSFORMATION FROM IMAN ACADEMY IN SRI LANKA In October 2025, the teachers of Iman Academy completed 5D Thinking Level 1. In the months that followed, we received thoughtful feedback from the team.

Our recent professional development session took a different and deeply meaningful form. Educators who had completed the 5D course were invited to share how they were beginning to apply it in their classrooms. Through their reflections, they inspired the wider team. They shared insights that had resonated with them, and spoke openly about how 5D Thinking had begun to shape their understanding of teaching and learning. Witnessing colleagues inspire one another in this way was deeply moving, a powerful reminder of how ideas take root, grow, and spread within a learning community. It was a beautiful moment of collective growth, alhamdulillah.

I’ve been studying science for years but never realized how much secularism is subtly embedded in it, until I joined the 5D Thinking program. It was truly eye-opening and awakening. I found myself just seated there pausing and thinking if it's all like,’ Woah’! This program helped me feel closer to my Rabb than I had before. Prayer is no longer just performing wudhu, reciting the surahs, and doing the actions; it’s about truly feeling the connection within, and being deeply grateful for every single blessing. Like how every breath I take is made easy

by Allah, how every meal I eat is digested effortlessly, and how everything around me is sustained by Him. It’s all a reminder that there is One who orchestrates it all...Allah. Of course, we knew this before, but we never truly stopped to acknowledge, reflect, and internalize it until this program. Alhamdulillah really grateful for this opportunity to be a part of this. Hasna Hameed Alhamdulillah, I am deeply grateful that Allah chose me to go through this learning journey — to see the universe through the Tawhidi lens and to explore the Book of the Universe with the children. Teaching them the meanings behind each message and sign that point to our amazing Creator and Nourisher fills my heart with awe. REFLECTIONS FROM MUQARNAS THROUGH THE 5D THINKING MODEL Dr Tugba Turkoglu

Yesterday, I entered the Sokullu Mosque to pray. After I finished my salah, I lifted my head, and there it was.

A muqarnas, silently resting above me, carved by the master hand of Architect Sinan. In that still moment, the muqarnas began to speak, not in words, but through its harmony, its balance, its quiet majesty. I looked closer, and with each glance, my heart deepened in reflection.

It was not only made, but shaped and measured with wisdom. Not only shaped, but adorned with beauty. Not only adorned, but perfected with grace. Not only perfected, but placed with justice and precision.

I asked myself: Can this muqarnas make and shape itself?

Can it adorn and beautify its own form?

Can it stand there by mere chance?

Can the bricks and mortar gather, arrange, and fix themselves into this harmony?

Can even the mosque, vast as it is, design and raise this single ornament on its own?

No. The muqarnas cannot make itself.

It cannot know its place, its measure, or its beauty. It needs a maker — not only a maker, but one who is also a shaper, a builder, a decorator, and a bringer of beauty.

Every curve of the muqarnas, every shade of its symmetry, whispers the qualities of its maker. Its design mirrors the wisdom, balance, and artistry of the one who crafted it. And whoever made it must have known the system of the entire mosque, for the muqarnas is not alone. It belongs to a whole. Its place, its meaning, and its beauty all depend on the greater structure that holds it.

Then I thought: Are we not like that muqarnas?

We too are made, skillfully shaped, inwardly and outwardly adorned, precisely measured, and justly arranged.

Every organ, every cell, every breath is placed with intention.

Chance cannot give shape to purpose.

Nature, itself created, cannot design another being.

Just as the mosque cannot make the muqarnas within it, the universe cannot make the human within it.

Both are works that speak of their Maker. So, like the muqarnas, we need not only a Maker, but One who is also a Shaper, a Builder, a Beautifier, the Just, the Wise, the Knowing. Our form, our soul, our existence carry His reflection, the Names that define all creation.

As I sat beneath that silent masterpiece, I thought of Architect Sinan, how he built this beautiful muqarnas within the grand design of a masjid, and then I thought of the One who built us within the vast design of the universe. Only the Creator who possesses Power, Wisdom, Justice, and Beauty can fashion such harmony, within both stone and soul.

If the muqarnas were to say, “I came here by myself, no one made me,” such words would sound hollow and absurd.

So let us be humble, like the muqarnas on the mosque wall. It is beautiful, yet not by itself. It reflects the perfection of its Maker, and in that reflection lies its true beauty.

Rather than overwhelming us with theory, the program provided a clear process that could be immediately applied in thinking, teaching, and daily life.

SEEING WITH NEW EYES: HOW 5D THINKING TRANSFORMED MY UNDERSTANDING OF KNOWLEDGE Aya Shiha Head Communication & Business Development - Next Generation School Dubai, UAE This workshop has been a truly lifechanging experience for me, and I am grateful to Allah first and foremost for blessing me with the opportunity to be among the few who were exposed to this kind of knowledge.

From the very first day, I felt as though a veil had been lifted from my eyes. Concepts that I had always sensed intuitively, but could never fully articulate, were suddenly made clear. I realized that awareness of this topic is not just beneficial, but essential to addressing the deeper crisis facing our Ummah today.

I have always been critical of the modern education system and the way it was designed to indoctrinate individuals into becoming passive participants in a capitalist system… consumers who function mechanically, detached from meaning and purpose. However, what this workshop helped me understand on a much deeper level is that the root problem is not simply capitalism or flawed pedagogy, but secular ideology itself.

Secularism works systematically to disconnect human beings from their Creator, stripping knowledge of meaning and reducing learning to information, productivity, and survival. The workshop’s explanation of Disconnections, Misconnections, and Weak Connections was extremely impactful mashaAllah, as it allowed me to reflect honestly on the longterm effects of the corrupted education system many of us have gone through.

Undoing such deep programming is not easy, but the first step toward change is awareness, and this program provides exactly that foundation at its first level.

One of the most powerful realizations for me was understanding that the 5D Thinking Model is not an invention, but is deeply rooted in the Shahada itself. The way the steps of 5D thinking were derived from Tawhid and explained through Qur’anic foundations was eye-opening.

We were reminded that we are commanded to read the universe Allah created for us… to observe, reflect, question, connect, and appreciate the endless signs around us. This is not optional or secondary knowledge; it is central to our purpose as human beings.

For the first time, I truly understood the depth of the first revealed command: “Iqra bismi rabbika allathee khalaq”. Reading is not limited to text; it is reading the universe itself, with Allah “Al-Khaliq” at the center.

Allah has designed us with intellect and consciousness so that we may reflect deeply on creation, recognize Him through His signs, and live in a constant state of gratitude and praise. This aligns perfectly with the ultimate purpose of our creation: “Wa ma khalaqtul jinna wal insa illa liya‘budoon.” Worship is not confined to rituals alone; it is a continuous state of awareness, reflection, and submission rooted in understanding.

The workshop helped me see how knowledge, when disconnected from Allah, becomes empty…even harmful! But when rooted in Tawhid, it transforms both the individual and society.

I truly believe that this program is essential for every Muslim child and adult who claims the Shahada. More importantly, it is critical for educators.

One cannot claim to be a true educator while teaching fragmented, secular knowledge that disconnects students from meaning, purpose, and their Creator.

Specially not when they are Muslim! This knowledge must be taught across the Muslim world, and I sincerely hope that, by the will and power of Allah, it will one day be adopted across ministries of education in Muslim countries. The potential impact on individuals, families, and the Ummah as a whole is immense.

Finally, the experience of attending this workshop in Istanbul, at the Istanbul Foundation for Science & Culture, was deeply moving and transformative. The environment, the discussions, and the collective intention made the learning experience even more fruitful Alhamdullilah. May Allah bless this work, accept it, and reward everyone involved endlessly. Jazakum Allahu khairan for a beautifully hosted workshop that has left a lasting impact on my understanding of knowledge, education, and purpose.

THE DANGERS OF SECULAR PSYCHOTHERAPY

And so instead of 'helping' them to conform to something which they find inhumane and alienating, surely we should be really helping them to channel their alienation in ways that are worshipful and thus spiritually therapeutic. Instead of trying to shoehorn them into society by teaching them how to become integrated or assimilated, should we not be guiding them to true enlightenment rather than feeding them the 'hopium' of social conformism?

Dr. Colin Turner Let's not delude ourselves: secular psychotherapy is not really about making sense of people's inability to fit in; secular psychotherapy is almost always about 'helping' people to conform.

After all, the feeling that "I don't fit in" is what all prophets and enlightened scholars had at some point in their careers. It is a noble feeling that, if understood and cultivated by truly helpful teachers, can lead to spiritual well-being and eventually point the way to eternal salvation.

Inability, or unwillingness, to conform is actually very healthy, so long as it is understood properly. Inability - or unwillingness - to conform is a sign that the person who is unable, or unwilling, to conform does not accept the modern world as it is. For the modern world, as we can see, is a place where the love and worship of the self is at the centre of everything, and where material pleasures and achievements are the main objectives of all human endeavour.

And some pure souls cannot embrace such a world; they cannot engage with it and they refuse to be part of it.

GLOBAL ENDORSEMENTS: EDUCATORS WITNESS THE POWER OF 5D THINKING

Across continents and classrooms, the 5D Thinking Model is inspiring a spiritual and intellectual renewal in education. From South Africa to the UK and the US, educators are discovering a transformative approach that realigns science and knowledge with their divine source.

Participating in the 5D Thinking workshop in Virginia was a personally enriching experience. The emphasis and conversations on reconnecting with the Divine through creation offered a spiritual lens that deepened my own reflection and purpose as an educator. While I believe schools may need a variety of tools and approaches to fully integrate Islam across all subjects, the 5D model offers powerful insights that can inspire more meaningful teaching. “Modern education has failed our young people. But that should come as no surprise: it was always meant to control and indoctrinate, never to truly enlighten. It has proved very adept at indoctrinating, but its desire to control hasn't worked out as well as the planners thought it might. It may have corralled people into a certain way of thinking, but it has also given rise to generation after generation of people who are psycho-spiritually bankrupt and, morally, entirely out of control.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of Muslim efforts to ameliorate this succession have not helped, because instead of treating the issue holistically, they have simply tinkered with the problem by treating Islam as an "add-on". Islamic education is, for the most part, highly reductive, based on the premise that if you adorn a highly secular curriculum with occasional Quranic verses or hadiths, you have made your education 'Islamic'.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Adding a few verses and Traditions to a secular syllabus is like grafting a living organ onto a dead body. Only one result can come from that: the dead body stays dead, and the living organ also dies. 5D Thinking, like any perceived solution, is not perfect, but at least it is correctly identifying the problem and addressing it in the most judicious and holistic way possible. It is an important start, and one upon which future generations of educators must build, if they are to bring our young people back from the brink of cultural and spiritual disaster.”

When misunderstood, it hides the hand of the Creator behind every event. To understand this illusion, consider a simple analogy.

THE ILLUSION OF THE LAWS OF PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY, AND BIOLOGY Dr. Necati Aydin What truly amazes me is how anyone can deny the existence of God while witnessing countless signs of His creative power. The more science reveals about the universe, from galaxies to genes, the more we should be moved to awe and submission. Never in history have humans observed such a degree of divine artistry and miracles laid bare before their eyes. Yet, astonishingly, more people than ever deny the very existence of the Artist behind this magnificent work.

Why is that? I believe the main reason lies in modern secular education. It blinds people to the signs of the Creator through abstract notions such as the so-called “laws of

The teacher tells them: “Every morning, breakfast appears because of the laws of breakfast. All around the world, these laws operate so that food comes to the table. Likewise, lunch and dinner follow their own laws. Every meal happens through these regular processes.”

If such a child grows up believing this, what will happen when they return home? They might deny the role of their parents in preparing those meals, saying, “My food comes from the laws of breakfast,” forgetting the loving hands that prepared it.

Of course, there are recipes for making meals and patterns in how meals are made, you boil water before making tea, you fry eggs before eating, but these patterns are not the cause. They are merely descriptions of how parents, with care and love, regularly prepare food. The true cause is

It’s truly amazing how water and minerals are carried all the way to the top of a tall tree, and then transformed into something entirely different, like a sweet apple. Science discovered this process and named it “capillary action”, saying it happens because of the adhesion and cohesion properties of water molecules, as if the water molecules hold hands, climbing together to the top. Yet, it attributes these extraordinary properties to “mindless molecules.”

In truth, there are no “laws” that create.

There is only the Creator who continuously creates in perfect order. His consistent way of creating is what the Qur’an calls SunnatAllah, the Way of Allah. ‫َف َلْن َت َد ِلُس َّن ِة ِهّٰللا َتْب ِدياًل‬ ‫ِج‬ “You will never find any change in the way (Sunnah) of Allah.”

Qur’an 33:62

In truth, this is a wondrous and wise act of the Merciful Creator, who prepares delicious desserts (fruits) for us through such an incredible process. The secular ideology hides the Divine Hand behind material explanations by invoking laws and emergence, but the signs of infinite wisdom are clear in every piece of fruit we enjoy.

Rather than calling them “laws of nature,” we should call them SunnatAllah, the constant, wise, and merciful patterns through which God sustains the universe.

He is the One who creates the seed, transforms it into a tree, brings forth the fruit, and delivers that fruit to us. The socalled “law” is merely our human label for His perfect regularity and consistency in action.

What we call the “laws of physics” or “laws of biology” are nothing more than descriptions of how the Creator, Al-Khāliq (The Creator) and Ar-Razzāq (The Provider), acts regularly and wisely in sustaining life and the cosmos. These laws are not independent powers that bring things into existence. The law of gravity does not pull; it only describes how God pulls. The law of growth does not make a seed sprout; it only explains how the Creator unfolds life from the unseen.

Unfortunately, secular education presents these laws as if they cause creation, rather than as descriptions of regularity in God’s ongoing creative actions. It is like observing the regularity of breakfast, lunch, and dinner, calling that regularity “laws,” and then denying the parents who lovingly prepare the meals.

This understanding transforms how we see the world. When a believer studies physics, chemistry, or biology, they are not merely studying the movements of matter under so-called natural forces; they are studying how God acts in the universe. The deeper we go into science, the more we discover His artistry, mercy, and wisdom in every molecule, every atom, and every pattern that reflects His order.

A believer looks at Newton’s laws and sees the precision of divine wisdom. They look at DNA and see the script of divine design.

They look at photosynthesis and recognize divine generosity, a silent act of giving that turns sunlight into nourishment. They understand the universe not as an independent machine but as a living sign of the Sustainer working through perfect harmony.

Therefore, the real task of education, especially Islamic education, is not to erase science but to restore its soul. We must teach that there are no autonomous “laws” governing existence. There is only God, Al-Ḥayy (The Ever-Living), Al-Qadīr (The All-Powerful), and Rabb al-‘Ālamīn (Lord of All Worlds), who makes the universe run with perfect harmony and purpose.

This is how Muslim scientists during the Golden Age of Islam approached knowledge. God was not outside their studies. He was at their center.

Everything they explored, from astronomy to medicine, was a way to understand the acts of God and reflect on His Names and Attributes. Science was not the study of creation apart from the Creator; it was the study of how the Creator continuously works within creation. When science regains this sacred vision, everything changes. There will be no need to “Islamize” knowledge, because everything will already be seen as Islamic, every discovery, every pattern, every law, a reflection of the Divine Names and Attributes.

The universe itself will appear as an ongoing act of creation, inviting us to know and love the One who constantly creates, sustains, and provides.

Many Islamic schools today, despite their good intentions, follow the same scientific curricula as secular schools.

They teach the so-called “laws of nature” as self-operating mechanisms, unknowingly blinding students from seeing the signs of Allah in the very subjects meant to reveal His acts. This results in a painful contradiction: while Islamic studies teach that Allah is the Creator and Sustainer, science classes imply that nature runs on its own. It is like a halal restaurant that serves pork on the main menu.

This contradiction must end. Islamic schools must reform their approach to teaching science, not by rejecting scientific facts, but by reframing how we understand them. Students must be guided to see that every so-called law is in fact SunnatAllah, and that every pattern in the universe is a reflection of divine wisdom and mercy.

This is precisely what the 5D Thinking Model aims to achieve. It provides a framework to open the eyes of those blinded by secular ideology and to help them read creation as signs by reconnecting the creation to the Creator.

Through 5D Thinking, exploring the universe becomes a form of direct communication with the Creator, an ongoing dialogue through the continuous act of creation itself.

Yet, over time, Muslim intellectual discourse has increasingly absorbed a secular lexicon that subtly contradicts this principle. Expressions such as “natural laws govern the world,” “nature acts,” or “chance produced this outcome” introduce assumptions that require scrutiny.

GUARDING TAWHID IN THE LANGUAGE OF CAUSATION Hassen Vally

For more than fifteen centuries, Muslim scholarship has maintained a clear and consistent principle: nothing occurs except by the Will, Knowledge, Power, and Creative Act of Allah. This understanding is not peripheral to Islamic thought; it is foundational. The Qur’an states: ‫ٱلَّلُه َخٰـ ِلُق ُكِّل َش ْى ٍۢء ۖ َو ُه َو َع ٰىَل ُكِّل َش ْى ٍۢء‬ ‫َو ِكيٌۭل‬ Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the Maintainer of everything.

Surah Az-Zumar, 39:62

The Problem of the Secular “Nature” Framework In contemporary discourse, it is often claimed that natural laws govern the universe.

From an Islamic epistemological standpoint, this phrasing is inaccurate. Natural laws do not govern anything; rather, they describe consistent patterns in how Allah brings events into existence. These patterns possess no autonomy, agency, or power of their own.

Concepts such as chance, randomness, or evolution further reinforce the notion of a self-operating universe. Within the Islamic worldview, such ideas are untenable because all causation ultimately traces back to one Necessary Cause, Allah Taʿālā, the sole Causer and Sustainer of all causes.

This affirmation establishes a comprehensive worldview in which all existence, continuity, and change are grounded in Allah alone.

Classical Theological Consensus on Causation This concern is not novel. Classical Muslim theologians across the Ashʿarī, Māturīdī, and Hanbalī traditions were unequivocal: there is no such thing as a self-moving nature. To claim that “nature caused an event” is, in effect, to assign creative agency to creation itself. Causes have no intrinsic power. Fire does not burn by itself. A blade does not cut by itself. Medicine does not heal by itself.

Effects occur only because Allah wills them to occur.

The Qur’an articulates this reality with clarity: ‫ْذ‬ ‫َّل‬ ‫َوَم ا َرَم ْي َت ِإ َرَم ْي َت َو َلٰـ ِك َّن ٱل َه َرَم ٰى ۚ َو ِلُيْب َىِل‬ “You did not throw when you threw, but Allah threw.”

Surah Anfal, 8:17 Imam al-Ghazālī, in Tahāfut al-Falāsifa, further explains that the connection between what is called a cause and what is called an effect is not necessary in itself. Allah creates the cause and creates the effect according to His wisdom. What humans observe as regularity is not compulsion upon Allah, but His chosen consistency. Thus, what modern science calls “laws of nature” are better understood as Sunnatullāh, the stable and observable patterns by which Allah customarily brings events into existence.

Contemporary Muslim Critiques of Secular Science Modern Muslim scholars have extended this critique to the philosophical foundations of contemporary science, particularly its assumption of ontological secularism, the belief that God is irrelevant to explaining reality. Thinkers such as Seyyed Hossein Nasr, Muhammad Iqbal, Ismail Raji al-Faruqi, Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas, Taha Abderrahmane, Omar Farooq Abd-Allah, and Said Nursi argue that modern science often embeds metaphysical assumptions while presenting itself as neutral.

One prominent example is secular evolutionary discourse, which frequently relies on terms such as random mutation, blind selection, and purposeless processes. Muslim scholars respond by clarifying that randomness does not mean unguided existence; it merely reflects human ignorance of the underlying order and purpose.

Said Nursi famously observed that attributing existence to chance is intellectually incoherent, as precision, harmony, and purpose testify to deliberate determination. Chance, as scholars explain, is not a force and cannot produce anything. It is a descriptive term for limited human knowledge, not a creative agent.

The Qur’an confronts this notion directly: ‫َأْم ُخِلُق و۟ا ِم ْن َغ ْي ِر َش ْى ٍء َأْم ُه ُم ٱْلَخٰـ ِلُق وَن‬ “Were they created from nothing? Or were they themselves the creators?”

Surah At-Tur, 52:35 Some scholars have described “chance” as a modern conceptual idol, an abstract replacement for divine agency within secular explanations of the universe.

Nature as an Independent Actor: A Rejected Assumption Treating nature as an independent actor introduces several theological distortions. It assigns power that belongs exclusively to Allah, portrays the universe as self-sustaining, and encourages humans to treat the observable world as the ultimate reality rather than as a sign pointing beyond itself.

Al-Attas characterizes this shift as the desacralization of knowledge, the severing of the conceptual link between creation and Creator. When this link is cut, knowledge loses its metaphysical orientation, and meaning is reduced to mechanism.

An Islamic Framework of Causation Islamic scholarship proposes a coherent alternative: Allah creates through causes, not out of need, but as an expression of wisdom, order, and mercy. Water quenches thirst, fire provides warmth, plants emerge from seeds, and human beings develop through stages, yet none of these processes operate independently.

The Qur’an states: ‫َو َلن َتِج َد ِلُس َّن ِة ٱلَّلِه َتْب ِد ياًۭل‬ “You will never find any change in the Sunnah of Allah.”

Surah Ahzab, 33:62 This consistency allows scientific observation and study, while preserving the truth that causation itself belongs to Allah alone. The Qur’anic worldview affirms that Allah alone brings each moment into existence, maintains the order observed in all patterns, and directs every outcome with perfect knowledge, wisdom, and purpose.

Innovative Academic Contributions on the 5D Thinking Model 1.A New Perspective on Secular Ideology in Science Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bünyamin Han and Dr. Ahmet Kasım Sezgin presented their study titled “An Alternative Perspective on Secular

5D THINKING MODEL INTRODUCED AT THE 9TH “CREATION IN THE LIGHT OF SCIENCES” CONGRESS IN GAZIANTEP Dr. Bunyamin Han The 9th Creation in the Light of Sciences Congress convened on 19–20 November 2025 in Gaziantep, bringing together more than 160 academics from 51 universities across Türkiye. Recognized as one of the country’s leading interdisciplinary platforms, the congress once again offered a vibrant environment for intellectual exchange where philosophy, theology, education, and social sciences intersect.

Ideology in Science: A Holistic Understanding of Knowledge through the 5D Thinking Model.” The authors argued that modern scientific and educational paradigms lean heavily on secular and empirical assumptions, often overlooking metaphysical and subjective aspects of knowledge. The 5D Thinking Model was proposed as a multidimensional alternative, one that incorporates empirical evidence alongside intuition, phenomenological experience, comparison, and logical reasoning. Their presentation emphasized the model’s five stages—Explore, Compare, Question, Connect, and Appreciate—framing it as a more human-centered and holistic pathway to knowledge.

2.A Holistic Approach to Values Education In their joint study titled “From Traditional Methods to a Holistic Approach in Values Education: The 5D Thinking Model,” Dr. Bünyamin Han and Dr. Cihat Yaşaroğlu examined three dominant approaches in values education: preaching, teaching, and acquisition. Highlighting the limitations of traditional methods, the researchers argued that sustainable values internalization occurs primarily through active, experiencebased acquisition.

They introduced the 5D Thinking Model as an innovative and holistic framework grounded in “cosmos literacy,” enabling students to explore and engage with values on multidimensional levels.

Their study concludes that values education becomes more effective when supported by comprehensive frameworks like the 5D Model.

3.Expanding Epistemology Beyond Empiricism Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zakir Elçiçek, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bünyamin Han, and Ast. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kasım Sezgin presented “The 5D Thinking Model and Phenomenological Experiential Knowledge: Sources of Knowledge Beyond Experiment and Observation.” Challenging the limits of traditional empiricism, the researchers argued that human understanding also emerges from phenomenological and experiential processes, forms of knowledge that surpass sensory-based evidence. They emphasized how the 5D Model integrates empirical data with intuition, reflective awareness, and lived experience.

Their study positioned phenomenological knowledge as a legitimate and powerful epistemic source, offering an expanded view of how humans construct meaning.

4.Teacher Training and Practical Classroom Applications In their study “5D Thinking Model Teacher Trainings: Implementation and Participant Perspectives,” Dr. Hayrullah Doğruel and Dr. Bünyamin Han analyzed a series of intensive teacher training programs conducted in Yalova, Diyarbakır, Muş, and Erzurum. Educators participating in these sessions were introduced to the philosophical foundations, teaching materials, and classroom applications of the 5D Model. Through qualitative evaluations, the researchers found that teachers experienced notable professional growth, identified strong classroom applicability, and reported positive effects on their instructional processes. The findings suggest that the 5D Model enhances teachers’ pedagogical practices and supports

House of Wisdom, one of the pilot schools of the 5D Thinking Model in Pakistan, was transformed into a vibrant celebration of learning, meaning, and purposeful thinking on 31st October.

Each student stall was thoughtfully designed with five interactive stations, representing the five steps of the 5D Thinking Model: Analytical, Analogic, Critical, Meditative, and

Science Models, transforming the fair into a powerful showcase of understanding, reflection, and insight.

A Rich Range of Topics The topics on display reflected both scientific depth and thoughtful selection.

Students explored areas such as Biomechanical Movements, Hearing, the Cell, the Digestive System, Orbital Resonance, Teeth, Sound, Camouflage, Cows, Coral Reefs, the Rock Cycle, the Water Cycle, Healthy Food, and many more. Within this frame, people are subtly conditioned to function more like automated systems than reflective beings.

This way of thinking leaves little room to pause and ask deeper questions. Consider how easily we say, “The weather is terrible today,” without stopping to ask: terrible for whom, and by what measure? Terrible for crops thirsting for rain, for rivers being replenished, or for air heavy with dust and heat?

DROPS OF MERCY – RETHINKING RAIN Uzma Ahmed Depending on where you live, rain is often met with a sigh, a complaint, or a reflexive remark: “Of course it had to rain today.”

“There will be more traffic now.” “We’ll have to cancel the picnic.” These comments slip easily into everyday conversation. They sound harmless, even practical. Yet the words we use do more than describe the weather; they quietly shape how we understand life itself.

In everyday speech, rain is frequently framed as a problem, plans are delayed, routines are disrupted, shoes get wet, and flooding can occur. Rain seems to become an obstacle to efficiency and convenience. At the heart of these remarks lies a secular mindset that prizes constant motion and productivity, organising human life around schedules, and uninterrupted output.

What falls from the sky is not random nor rushed; it arrives measured, purposeful, and nurturing.

This narrowing of vision weakens our awareness of dependence and replaces gratitude with irritation. Over time, the world is no longer read as meaningful, but as something to manage and control. In losing sight of the Creator behind the rain, we also lose a sense of humility, forgetting that every drop is a reminder of who sustains, nourishes, and holds all of life together.

Rain is a clear sign of Allah’s power and mercy. It descends by His will, in precise measure and perfect timing, reviving dry land, sustaining life, and restoring balance to the earth. From soil that appears lifeless, Allah brings forth growth, colour, and provision, reminding us that giving life and sustaining it belong to Him alone. No human effort can command the rain or withhold it once Allah decrees it.

The rain reaches soil, seed, animal, and human alike, reminding us that we live within a mercy that surrounds us even before we ask. To witness this is to feel small, yet deeply held—to know that the One who sends the rain is attentive, generous, and endlessly compassionate toward all that He sustains.

During my recent visit to Sri Ayesha Islamic School, I witnessed an educational approach that left a deep and lasting impression on me. The school has long been committed to the Montessori model, and in the last two years, it has also been implementing the 5D Thinking model with dedication and consistency. Most of the teachers have completed formal 5D training, and their confidence and fluency in the model were evident throughout my visit.

They explored the features of that level, asked meaningful questions, connected their findings to the Creator, and finally expressed appreciation for the wisdom and order reflected in the deep ocean. In doing so, they were not just learning about marine life; they were learning to see signs that point them to the Creator through His creation.

The highlight of my experience was the students’ extensive project on the Deep Ocean. This was not a simple display or short assignment. For weeks, students engaged in thoughtful, detailed work to develop an immersive representation of the ocean’s different layers.

More than twenty years ago, the school’s founder migrated from Pakistan to Thailand.

He initially enrolled his daughter in an Islamic school. One day, however, he discovered that students were being taught dance as part of the curriculum. Deeply disturbed, he withdrew his daughter immediately. What appeared at the time as an upsetting and frustrating incident became the spark that ignited something far greater: the establishment of Iqra Islamic School.

Today, Iqra serves over 1,000 students and functions as a feeder school for many institutions across Thailand. A moment that seemed negative turned into a source of benefit for thousands of children. This experience beautifully illustrates a key 5D insight: what appears harmful at the surface may carry hidden wisdom in its consequences.

Before visiting Thailand, I must admit something honestly: Thailand was not on our strategic radar. While drafting the fiveyear strategic plan for 5D Thinking, I had not considered the country as a potential hub.

The training there, however, revealed a deep need and readiness for a practical, integrated Islamic thinking model.

After just two days of training, the founders and administrators expressed strong commitment not only to implementation within their school but also to: translate 5D resources into Thai, partner with the 5D team, and help disseminate the model to over 200 Islamic schools in Thailand.

Indeed, Thailand revealed itself as a new and promising horizon for 5D Thinking.

Malaysia: A Deep Alignment of Mission The second major training took place with Little Caliphs (LC) schools in Malaysia. A twoday intensive program brought together 40 teachers and administrators, followed by strategic discussions with senior leadership.

The outcome was clear: a roadmap to implement 5D Thinking across more than 500 preschools and over a dozen primary schools under the Little Caliphs network.

At the end of the first training day, Datin Dr. Hjh Sabariah Faridah binti Jamaluddin, in a light yet profound moment, remarked jokingly that it was time for tawbah nasūḥa.

Her message was serious: many educators, unknowingly, have been transmitting secular assumptions that contradict the Islamic worldview, affecting both the minds and hearts of children. Recognition, repentance, and reform are the first steps forward.

Singapore: Knowledge, Hospitality, and New Horizons The final stop was Singapore. After a school visit on the first day, the second day featured a training session at an Islamic college.

Participants expressed deep appreciation for the model’s ability to diagnose and dismantle secular assumptions embedded in science and knowledge more broadly. The response was overwhelmingly positive. There was a strong desire for continued collaboration, repeat training, and expansion, not only within Singapore but even into Indonesia.

Conclusion: A Clear Sign of Need and Opportunity This 10-day journey made one thing abundantly clear: There is a tremendous need and genuine hunger for an integrated, authentic Islamic thinking framework across South and Southeast Asia.

With a sincere and dedicated team, the potential for meaningful impact in this region is immense. What we witnessed was not mere interest, but readiness, commitment, and vision.

WHO WE ARE THE INSTITUTE The Institute of Integrated Knowledge (IIK) is an institute of advanced study, research, and outreach for interdisciplinary exploration and the integrative understanding of existence. The programs offered by it serve as an intellectual platform for academics, intellectuals, educators, researchers, and graduate students. It introduces the Islamic knowledge tradition with its emphasis on viewing the universe not as something self-referential but rather as something that expresses its true meaning by referring to what lies beyond itself.

A prominent initiative by the IIK is the 5D Thinking project, which is based on the idea that ideology-free science and authentic Divine messages do not contradict each other, as they both come from the same source. It assumes that the universe is an elegant book with full of meaning (signs). It considers pure science as a great way to reveal the Divine signs in the book of the universe.

The 5D thinking approach aims to help students to derive character lessons from scientific knowledge. It is expected to help students read the universe like an elegant book conveying Divine messages on how to be a better human being through good character.
