Milos is a phenomenon of colors, architecture, natural beauty, geology, history and culture, tradition. This dazzlingly beautiful island of the Cyclades is volcanic and for this reason it presents an impressive morphology and variety of coastlines and not only. You will find over 75 beaches sometimes with white gold beaches and sometimes bays with pebbles surrounded by stones, white, red, yellow or even black rocks. You will find unique colors and depths in the sea, while you can also swim in fully organized beaches or choose more lonely and wild. The western half of the island, the wildest and most charming, belongs almost all to the Natura 2000 Network, it is a habitat of the Mediterranean seal, the red viper of Milos (Macrovipera schweizeri) and the lizard (Podacris milensis). Achivadolimni belongs to the Natura area, which was once full of clams, hence its name, while it is the largest natural wetland in the Cyclades, an important station for migratory birds. There is also the forest of horizontal cypress trees, a rare habitat with age-old trees. In western Milos there are many plants, herbs and wildflowers and protected birds such as Mavropetritis, a rare migratory species of hawk. Milos has a horseshoe shape forming a large bay and is one of the largest natural ports in Greece. The 5000 permanent residents of the island live mainly in just 8 beautiful villages. island are ideal for walks! Wander through their cobbled alleys and admire the Cycladic architecture with its white and blue houses. Plaka is the capital of Milos and has a strong traditional color, with Cycladic architecture, narrow cobbled streets and small traditional shops, restaurants and cafes. At the highest point of Plaka, on a hill of volcanic origin is the Castle, which was built by Venetians in the 13th century. At the top of the castle is the church of the Assumption of the Virgin or Mesa Panagia, while lower is the Assumption of Christ or Panagia Thalassitra. Plaka is also the metropolis of Milos, the Holy Church of the Genesis of the Virgin or Panagia Korfiatissa. The church was built in 1820 and Byzantine-Cycladic style. Many heirlooms and icons are kept in the church, along with the icon of Panagia Korfiatissa. The current settlement was created by the abandonment of the previous one, Zefyria or Chora (for this reason Plaka is not called Chora), due to a great earthquake in 1767. Today it is a small village, where the inhabitants are mainly engaged in agriculture. The village of Zefyria is known for its Festival, which is organized every year on the 15th of August, honoring the memory of the Virgin of Portiani. Panagia Portiani is the old Metropolis of the island built from the 17th century. Zefyria is about 5 km from Adamas and 9 km from Plaka. Adamas is the port of Milos and the first taste you will get when you arrive in Milos. It is also the tourist center of the island as it provides everything the traveller needs, as it combines rest and tranquility with intense nightlife and entertainment. Tripiti is the natural continuation of Plaka to the south. It got its name from the many holes that exist in the rocks around the village. It is a picturesque seaside village with a wonderful view of the bay of Milos. Characteristics of the village are the restored windmills, which you can rent for your stay and the imposing church of Agios Nikolaos. Near Tripiti, visitable and on foot, are the Catacombs and the Ancient Theater of Milos. In the settlements of Klima, Skinopi and Mandrakia you can see the so-called "wires", one of the most characteristic sights of Milos. These traditional buildings are usually colorful and intended for storing boats. Firopotamos seems to have gone back in time with the fishermen's houses with the colored doors on the sand to welcome you and the boats to be ready for the first fishing. The heavenly, turquoise and transparent waters are waiting for you for countless dives. The dive in Firopotamos is an experience in itself. In Paleochori you will be impressed by the landscape and the fantastic colors. The red rocks, the fine pebbles and the crystal clear waters compose a magical setting! In Milos the natural beauty is a given for the eyes of the traveller. Sarakiniko which is undoubtedly not only one of the most popular beaches of Milos, but also of the whole Greece. Fossils have been found in its white volcanic rocks created by the deposition of repeated layers of material. Volcanic eroded rocks penetrate the sea creating small and large caves. Sarakiniko is located in the northeastern part of the island and is said to have taken its name from the Saracen Pirates who used it as a base. The beach is 5 km from the island's capital, Plaka. If you like the observation of the seabed, Sarakiniko is ideal and it is worth taking equipment with you to explore it, while in addition to swimming, the nights are idyllic and especially the nights with a full moon.

In the impressive white rocks of Papafragas there are "fireballs" of kissir (pumice) that are grated and joined together with white powder of the same composition, as a solid layer. In other words, these are layers of ash rich in pumice that have been deposited in a marine environment. These layers have been slightly compacted and the cracks that appeared on their surface were enlarged by the action of the waves and formations were created, such as the cave of Papafragas. In Milos, the geological phenomena that are worth visiting are also impressive. The northwestern cape of Milos, Vani, is a special place. Black and red dominate the area where the excavations have left an indelible mark. Arkoudes is a complex of volcanic rocky islets located near Plathenia beach and the entrance of the gulf of Milos. The rocks seem to show an opening mouth, nose, eyes, ears and body that looks more like bears, hence their name. You can see them with a boat touring the island. Glaronissia is a small complex of uninhabited islets in the prefecture of Cyclades, which are located north of Milos opposite the coastal settlements of Pachaina and Agios Gerasimos. Kastanas beach is located on the east coast of Milos, near the small port of Pollonia. Access to the beach is quite difficult due to a narrow dirt road that crosses the hills of the area. Phylakopi, a guarded archeological site, is one of the most important prehistoric settlements of the Cycladic civilization, which gave its name to a sub-period. It was also the most important settlement of Milos in the Bronze Age. It is located at a strategic point, on the north coast of Milos, overlooking the sea. A large part of the settlement was deposited in the sea, since antiquity. Archaeological excavations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries (1896-99, 1910) have identified traces of habitation since the beginning of the Early Bronze Age (c. 3000 BC). The Archaeological Museum of Milos is located in Plaka and is definitely worth a visit. It is housed in a beautiful neoclassical building designed in 1870 by the famous architect E. Chiller. It has been operating as a museum since 1985. One of the most famous exhibits of the museum and one of the most famous in the world is the Aphrodite of Milos that dominates the main hall of the Museum. century AD. The prehistoric collection of the Phylakopi will surely impress you. You will admire the gilded "Lady of phylakopi", a clay sculpture of a female figurine from 1,400 BC. found in the Mycenaean Sanctuary and many figurines from the Sanctuaries of Phylakopi IV. The ancient theater of Milos is located on the hillside, where the ancient city extends, between the modern settlements of Tripiti and Klima, overlooking the bay of Milos. The Catacombs of Milos are the first large community cemetery of the first Christian years. Their original form was three large independent underground galleries (A, B, C) carved into the porous volcanic rock, each of which was connected to other smaller ones. Nowadays they are a complex as the three main galleries communicate with each other with newer openings made in the 20th century. The current main entrance of the Catacombs was opened at the beginning of the century and so the visitor enters today in gallery B which is the only one temporarily visitable. On the right side of gallery B is preserved the only twostorey tomb of the Catacombs and fragments of the most important inscription written in capital red letters in a rectangular frame. Apart from being a cemetery, the Catacombs were also a place of worship as evidenced by the piece of rock that has been left in place in the middle of gallery B to serve as the Holy Table. From the bases found at the four ends during the 1928 survey, we assume that there was originally a "box" above the bank. The figure, reminiscent of a sarcophagus, also led to the hypothesis that it was the tomb of an official or one of the first bishops of Christian Milos.

The war shelter, in Adamas of Milos, was built under the orders of the German occupying army, during World War II. It is an impressive, labyrinthine construction of twelve large chambers that branch to the right and left of a central artery, below the current settlement of Adamas. Now, beautifully lit, they host works by Greek and foreign artists, which give voice to these memories, to the small and insignificant of everyday life that are so important in the end and to the experiences of people who lived as children or young people during the war and willingly told their stories. The mining museum is located in Adamas. In its spaces, objects, images and photographs present the impressive geological peculiarity of Milos and tell in their own way the mining history of the island, paying, at the same time, a minimal tribute to all those who worked and are working for the development of mining on the island, and connecting the past with the present. In Milos the traditions have their honor since all the big holidays are celebrated in a solemn way and you will be lucky if you attend such events.
