OUR PHILOSOPHY OUR PHILOSOPHY We believe that small incremental changes in mindset, behaviour and food choices can contribute to larger impactful changes to people and the planet. Considering the current lifestyle-related health issues and environmental challenges we face in our society, we are advocates for sparking curiosity, awareness and interest in how people think, consume and interact with plant-based food.

We aim to empower people to make informed dietary choices, improve culinary skills, and encourage critical thinking and empathy towards the planet and its inhabitants.

Our Vision Our vision is to make a positive impact on people and the planet.

Our Work 4Motion’s team specialises in delivering a diverse range of inclusive experiences that support the physical, mental & emotional health and wellbeing of young people, teachers, and school communities. This includes yoga classes, meditation sessions, INSET teacher training, youth ambassador programmes, team building and event planning.

As part of 4Motion, we operate a community cafe called The Loading Bay, and it is this team we would like to introduce you to, to share how plant-based food, workshops and training can support your students, staff, and school.

MEET THE TEAM Dean: 4Motion Co-Director Dean has been managing and coordinating educational events, workshops and projects for over 18 years. He is an experienced Theatre Director and creative collaborator. His eye for innovation and passion for bringing people together through food, the arts and community has lead him to pioneer the development of the Loading Bay over recent years. Dean has toured the globe delivering programmes for young people, soaking up inspiration from other cultures and continues to collaborate with other creatives.

Chris: Loading Bay Coordinator Chris is our talented and experienced plant-based chef. He qualified as a ‘Vegan Natural Chef’ at the College of Naturopathic Medicine in London, and is passionate about helping others to use food to prevent chronic illness. He is also a qualified secondary school geography teacher and utilises this knowledge to provide insight into global cuisines and environmental sustainability.

THE LOADING BAY CAFÉ We specialise in making plant-based food that tastes delicious, celebrates global cuisines and demonstrates the positive impact a plant-based diet has on the environment and health. The food and agricultural industry is evolving at a rapid pace, and running parallel to this is the global climate crisis that is directly impacting us all. We believe that now is the time to showcase the very best of plant-based food, and to do it in a healthy, flavoursome, and environmentally conscious way.. At the Loading Bay Café, we let our food do the talking to share our message!

We are extremely proud of the reputation the Loading Bay has developed, evident in our consistent 5* reviews for our food, customer service and professionalism across three different platforms (Google Reviews, Happy Cow, TripAdvisor). 80% of our customers are non-vegans, yet appreciate the skill and flavours in our dishes and our ethos to reduce our environmental

impact. We are passionate about sharing these skills, knowledge and experience with young people, schools and communities.

EDUCATION WORKSHOPS Sparking enquiry, sharing knowledge and skills, and empowering young people to learn in a creative, inclusive environment is what we do best and have been doing since 2006. We hold a positive reputation for delivering a wide range of accessible educational workshops across the South East and South West of England, evident in our 17+ years of experience in primary, secondary and special education school and community settings.

We strive to be a resourceful and approachable education partner, supporting schools with recent curriculum updates to increase dietary understanding and the growing emphasis on sustainable living. By working in partnership with teachers and students, we create bespoke projects and workshops that utilise available resources, aligning with the current curriculum and learning outcomes.

EXAMPLE SESSIONS Practical cooking lessons & demonstrations Teaching students how to prepare delicious and nutritious plantbased meals that demonstrate food swaps, i.e. meat and protein alternatives.

Sustainability lessons & resources Encouraging students to adopt long-term sustainable eating habits by discussing the impact of food choices on their health, environment, and communities. Topics include; ethical food sourcing, fair trade, agriculture, and transport.

Vegan masterclasses Focusing on one aspect of plant-based cuisine, and delivering a fun and interactive session to create a variety of dishes. For example: tofu masterclass, vegan ‘fish-less’ masterclass, vegan baking, and smoothie-making.

EXAMPLE SESSIONS Nutrition Workshops Considering the fundamentals of whole-food plant-based nutrition, including the benefits of different food groups, essential nutrients, and balanced meal planning.

Global Cuisine Exploration Exploring the diverse world of plant-based cuisines, introducing students to dishes from various cultures and regions.

Food Photography and Social Media Combining creativity and plant-based cuisine by offering workshops on food photography and how to share their culinary creations on social media.

Culinary Competitions Organising cooking competitions where students can apply what they've learnt and showcase their culinary talents in a plant-based context. Think Ready Steady Cook or Masterchef style competitions!

THE GRIT PROGRAMME GRIT: A 4Motion Wellbeing Programme co-created by and for young people GRIT is a programme designed by 4Motion to support students and young people to help understand the power of their mind, the importance of investing in their wellbeing and how to achieve their future aspirations. We have tailored this programme to focus on those who may have an interest in entering an exciting and evolving food industry and have created a 6-week scheme of work to help them bring this to reality.

It has also helped me to improve my confidence and share this knowledge with others" GRIT participant There are many reasons why young people find themselves detached from their mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing, unmotivated or unable to apply strategies to help them learn, socialise or adopt a positive mindset. Misaligned expectations, peer pressure, social media influences and low self-worth are all common experiences that can trigger this detachment. As a result students may find themselves with a lack of wellbeing awareness, life skills or experience to help them navigate these challenges. Therefore, we offer an alternative approach to learning at The Loading Bay Café that is interactive, student-lead and teaches skills transferable.to life.

GRIT The word ‘grit’ is defined as ‘courage and determination despite difficulty’. It is about resilience and having stamina, passion, and perseverance for longterm goals. Grittier students are more likely to succeed, regardless of their background, talent or predicted grades. In fact, psychologists believe that it is not talent that makes us gritty, it is the nurturing and development of a growth mindset. It is this premise which underpins our GRIT programme.

The aim of our GRIT programme is to provide students with a well-being toolkit and transferable skills to set them up for working life. WORK EXPERIENCE PLACEMENTS At the Loading Bay Café we offer on-the-job learning opportunities to those wishing to explore their passion for food and develop the necessary skills needed to join our industry. Over the last year we have hosted eight student work placements. These opportunities have focused on building confidence, culinary skills, and employability. Our partnerships with local food markets, coffee roasters and event spaces put us in unique position to offer a diverse range of opportunities to suit everyone’s interests.. These include; Street food & market trading (local vegan markets & festivals) Refined plating & fine-dining (supper clubs) Plant-based food pairing for wine-tasting events Barista training (local roasters) Global cuisine specialisms (e.g. Mexican, burger & pizza nights) Day retreats & focused nutrition (e.g. pregnancy, cancer, diabetes)

ACTIVATE HOLIDAY PROGRAMME Our 4Motion ACTIVATE Holiday Programme is part of the nationwide ‘Holiday Activities and Food Programme’ initiative, aiming to help keep young people moving and nourished over the school holidays.

Since 2021 we have supported over 2500 children through this programme. We have an incredible team of teachers who run daily 4-hour sessions delivering dance, yoga, meditation, arts and crafts, and fitness. Each programme also includes a wholesome plant-based lunch and fun, interactive sessions run by our chefs to spark curiosity about food and nutrition.

Who is ACTIVATE for?

Our ACTIVATE programmes are for 5-13 year olds. Children who access Free School Meals (FSM) can join this programme for free, but we also offer subsidised places to those not on FSM, who are interested in joining the programme. Get in touch to find out more.

INSET STAFF TRAINING As a team of educators and teachers, we understand the pressures and challenges teachers face to create a fulfilling work-life balance. We are passionate about supporting the wellbeing of teachers and school staff, creating supportive environments and learning experiences that nurture wellbeing and fosters best practice both within and beyond the classroom.

With over 17 years’ experience of working with schools, academy trusts, teachers and support staff, our goal is to deliver engaging, relevant, and impactful INSET training and staff workshop experiences. Examples include the following:
