Dance the Night Away

Young adults from 4KIDS Independent Living (SOSI), and 4KIDS Maternity Home, His Caring Place, came out to the 4th Annual SOSI Prom this year. The girls and guys were dressed to the nines and experienced an unforgettable evening of dining and dancing!

Even the hours leading up to this spectacular event were memorable. Many of the girls visited salons to get their hair and nails done, and makeup artists came to their houses in the afternoon. It was hard to contain the excitement as they put on their dresses and took a look in the mirror for the first time.

“Many of our young ladies had never been pampered in this way. Though the transformation I saw throughout the day was a physical one, I knew something similar was going on inside their hearts as well.” shared De Kelly, SOSI Coordinator.

“The energy in that banquet hall was electric!”

Young adults who age out of foster care in our community have hardships that often go unnoticed. After their 18th birthday, many of them are forced to face adulthood with little or no help from family. It’s typical for them to have difficulty making ends meet, and applying for school and employment can become complicated and overwhelming.

SOSI and His Caring Place exist to give these girls and guys a chance to start over, and receive the guidance and support they need to have a flourishing future. An evening of celebration like the SOSI Prom was a blessing in disguise for so many residents who just weeks or months before had been in a very hard place in life.

One young couple who came to the prom had been living out of a car before moving into SOSI and His Caring Place a week prior. That night, their smiles were contagious as they shared with one of the resident advisors, "You all have been so welcoming and tonight has been amazing."

"The energy in that banquet hall was electric,” said Ken Lacy, Director of SOSI. "We are grateful to the sponsors and supporters who helped make this another SOSI Prom to remember!"
