9th FMSU Supporting Our Community Soldiers with 9th Financial Management Support Unit spent 23 August helping a local chapter of Habitat for Humanity build a set of homes for low income families in the Renton, Washington, area. The eight Soldiers cut, measured, hammered and built the foundation of the homes in preparation for the cement filling in the next few weeks. Includes live music from local bluegrass band, “The Pine Hearts”, a salmon bake, a 5K and 12K chip-timed race plus a half-mile fun run for the kids. Armed Forces Action Plan (AFAP) AFAP is a program designed to improve quality of life for Servicemembers and their Families. Since 1983, AFAP has been the driving Force behind hundreds of policy changes and program improvements. It provides the community a voice in shaping their standard of living. Installation issues not resolved locally are prioritized and submitted to mid-level command conferences up to HQDA Conference. Schedule of events Sept 19 (11-1pm/ 3-6:30pm) Open House. Kids & Teens Before-school Care at the Teen Zone, Lewis Main offers before-school care at 5:30 a.m. until students take the bus to Woodbrook Middle School, Harrison Prep, Mann Middle School and Lakes High School. Operation Kid Fit Accepting families for next session (in person or online) Wednesday, Sep 17, 2014 Army Public Health Command is offering JBLM families part in "Operation Kid Fit," a pilot program designed to reinforce healthy eating and lifestyle habits in overweight children, ages 4-11 years old. Parents will learn about offering healthy food choices, increasing your child's physical activity, and using incentives to help kids make better health-related choices. During this round, the program will offer 2 tracks - a 12-week commitment made up of ten 90-minute small group sessions and two 20minute individualized calls with the OKF facilitator, and a similar program conducted online for parents and caregivers unable to attend face-to-face sessions.
