Architecture plays a crucial and influential role in shaping the world we live in, yet this often goes unnoticed. Architectural decisions can have a lasting impact on our environment and society, but not enough people reflect on the consequences that these choices can have. As architects, it is our responsibility to be mindful of the farreaching effects our designs can have.
I am passionate about building structures that go beyond aesthetics and consider the broader impact on the planet. This involves incorporating sustainable materials and practices into designs to minimize environmental harm. I firmly believe that architects should strive to leave the world in a better state than they found it. It is a commitment I wholeheartedly embrace; aiming to contribute positively to the world through thoughtful and sustainable architectural designs.

Karuna House - Foundation
Performed a study of an existing structure (Karuna House, located in Oregon) and the materials that make up its’ composition. Upon identifying the materials and their placement within the structure, we were tasked with accurately drawing the envelope in AutoCAD using the information we had gathered. Included in this information was a Site Analysis, List of Materials and Products, and a Value Engineering Analysis.

5 Broadway Corridor, 2072
Master of Architecture, Fall 2021
Instructor:
Fred Scharmen, Carlos Reimers
Baltimore, MD
Vision: This corridor of Baltimore will be a haven of the city. A true foundation to build upon. Accessibility to all forms of commuter transportation will be available here. Amtrak train cars will run through the area as they always have, but now underground, so as not to interfere with the local traffic. A Skyrail will bring commuters North and South through the city, from the fringes of the city into the heart of downtown. The Skyrail will provide views of Broadway and its surroundings as they travel to Johns Hopkins and beyond. On the street, Driverless Buses will bring those commuters from the Skyrail East and West to their work destinations. Additionally, there will be Driverless Trucks making deliveries wherever needed, allowing people to be free from this laborious task.
Perspective Section
By this point, personal automobiles will be nonexistent. Cities will not allow pedestrians to operate vehicles. This directive will force the use of public transportation by all citizens. A widely adopted use of public transportation will draw people out of the suburbs and back into the city, because the public transportation of the city will be the only way for them to commute to their jobs. This transition to public transportation will also help to reduce the amount of pollution produced by our cities and the automobiles used every day. 50 years from now, all automobiles will also be electric, further reducing the harm that pollution is currently doing.
Because these policy changes will be forcing people to move from the suburbs, into the city, an adequate amount of green spaces will be required. Using the World Health Organization recommendation of “9 meters squared per individual,” they will be entering a completely different Baltimore compared to the mental image it currently cultivates. All along the Broadway corridor, people will see an abundance of greenery. There will be long stretches of parks that face the main streets breaking off from Broadway, along with the median along Broadway being a continuous green strip. There will be additional large and small parks scattered throughout the city, so that no one feels as if they are isolated from green space.
Neighborhoods will be more mixed-use, so as to disperse commuters all trying to get to a single area. They will be a mix of residential, commercial and corporate structures. The Baltimore rowhome will be maintained wherever possible, but new buildings of different sizes and materials will replace those homes too dilapidated to refurbish. This new type of neighborhood will ensure that all neighborhoods are equal. Residents will feel comfortable living everywhere, and no area will be seen as worse than another one.
This is the Baltimore of the future. A city that is greener, more sustainable, more equitable and more livable than at any time in its previous history.
