The following week, NWA Fashion Week included an actionpacked few days of fashionable fun for philanthropy. We kicked things off at the LBD Party on Tuesday night at Vetro 1925 in Fayetteville, benefiting Brandi Rushton’s medical fund. The following evening, friends, sponsors and supporters gathered at Fairlane Station in Springdale for the Industry Party, which included an evening of drinks, food and live music. 16

Later that month, the American Diabetes Association hosted its 12th annual Kiss a Pig Gala with special entertainment from Blues Traveler at the black-tie affair. Dr. Missy Clifton of Premier Dermatology got the right to kiss the pig for raising $133,270 for the small business category. In total, the gala raised a staggering $1,150,000 for the cause. United Way of Northwest Arkansas hosted the stylish Bags for Books Luncheon benefiting the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Boys and Girls Club of Benton County honored high school student, Reina Martinez at the Youth of the Year Celebration. Susan G. Komen Ozark honored notable supporters at the Promise Circle Luncheon. The March madness ended with the Miller McNeil Woodruff Foundation’s annual Cupcake & Cocktails affair, which celebrated the birthday of Miller as well as all that the Foundation has accomplished over the last three years.

As the weather warms up and [hopefully] the sun is here to stay, springtime in NWA looks to be filled with plenty of philanthropic events. Stay up to date on www.3wmagazine.com. n

—from laundry and carpool They do it all to board meetings and volunteer work, these moms are truly wonder women in our eyes. Despite the hundreds of things they are juggling on any given day, they are each raising beautiful children that are a true reflection of the love they have received from their mothers. Their lives may not look the same but they are all working hard at being the best moms they can be.

In honor of Mother’s Day, we asked them to share their advice and thoughts on motherhood and parenting from where they are in their lives. New moms, step moms, working moms, moms to older children—each perspective is different. But each of these women are a reminder that although it may not be possible to be a perfect mom, there are plenty of ways to be a good mother. AMY MASON Director of Development & External Relations at the Washington Regional Foundation

With stepsons Ian (8 years old) and Aidan Mason (10 years old)

Your favorite part about being a mom? Dinnertime! I love cooking and planning meals for my family—especially surprise desserts. We enjoy dinner at home together almost every night. It is a stable, predictable routine for us when we can share what happened during the day.

What’s the best thing about being a stepmom? The boys have a mom who loves them very much, so I get to focus on enhancing and adding to the love they already have in their lives. They are the surprise gift that I had not planned for, but are exactly what I need to balance and round out my life. They have taught me many things about myself and for that I am very grateful. 18

Do you have any advice to share about motherhood? Roll with it! Floors get dirty, laundry is piled up, kitchens are messy, but it is important to try to be flexible about life’s little challenges (and big ones). This is something I really have to work on all the time!

What advice do you have for new stepmoms? Communicate honestly with your spouse about how you are feeling. Whether you feel happy, confused or overwhelmed by step parenting, it is important to be transparent aboutyour emotions.

With son Brooks (2 years old)

Shelby Shy Co-Owner of Shirley’s Flowers & Gifts and Shirley’s Flower Studio

Do you have any advice to share about motherhood?

What hobbies or things do you enjoy doing for “me” time?

Let your child reach each milestone on their own. With all the information readily available it is so easy to put expectations or guidelines on them. However, if you let them be themselves at their own pace it will lessen the stress of your parenting.

Going to local museums and local restaurants for date nights. There is hardly any reason to go outside our community! We have so many fabulous new and seasoned places right here at our fingertips. I’m so proud to be born and raised in Northwest Arkansas and blessed to raise my child here.

If you had to sum up your philosophy on parenthood, what would you say? Don’t take yourself too seriously. Your children don’t, so why should you? Walk the walk and do as you say. They learn from your actions, so try and be conscious of that.

Do you have any secrets you can share on making it all “work”? Only concentrate on what you can control. Don’t waste time and energy on the other.

Kelly Kemp McLintock Chief Advancement Officer for The Jones Center & Jones Trust

With son Gunnar Kemp (18 years old) and twin daughters Grace and Emily Kemp (13 years old)

As a mother to older kids, how has your role changed over the years?

What’s the hardest part about being a mother in today’s world?

I have really worked hard to encourage them to make the right choices. I realize they will make mistakes along the way. I’m there to gently guide them. I will admit it’s tough sometimes to step back and let them make their own decisions. It’s all a part of the growing up process.

I think, in general, parents today want to protect their children as much as possible from the mixedmessages they are exposed to through the Internet and social media. I’ve really encouraged Gunnar, Grace and Emily to have a well-balanced life. That includes education, extracurricular activities, family time and social time. It’s a delicate balance because today’s families are always on the go. We still make dinnertime in the evenings a priority. That’s when you reconnect as a family and learn what’s going on in their day-to-day lives. I cherish that time.

What would you say to people who may be new to parenthood? Every stage is so exciting! Enjoy every moment, because it goes by so quickly. Sometimes I can’t believe we now have three teenagers in the house! Where did the time go?

Mya Vu

Manicurist at Natural Nails

With daughters Lillian (age 5) and Hollyn (age 10 months)

What’s the hardest part about being a mother in today’s world? The hardest part of being a mother in today’s world is definitely juggling work while having children. I work close to 50 hours a week and it’s just impossible at times to get everything done. I’ve learned that I am not super woman and if I can’t get everything done, there’s always tomorrow.

If you had to sum up your philosophy on parenthood, what would you say? I don’t have to be that perfect mom all the time. Parenting is a challenge, but I try to enjoy every bit of it because in a blink of an eye your children will be all grown. 22

Your favorite part about being a mom? My favorite part of being a mom is to hear the giggles and laughter from my girls when I come home from work. Their eyes light up when they see me and it makes motherhood well worth it.

What is your philosophy on work/life balance? Slow down and smell the roses once in a while. Parenting can be overwhelming when you fail to be that perfect parent. Remember, it is a learning experience for both the parents and the children.

Amanda Ragar

Co-owner of Scotts Lawn Service franchise locations in Northwest Arkansas and Springfield, Missouri and owner of Christmas Décor of Northwest Arkansas

With daughter Kenndey (6 years old) and son Conley (3 years old)

What’s the best advice about parenting or motherhood you’ve been given?

What is your philosophy on work/life balance?

We are only given around 7,000 days with our children from crib to college. No matter how stressed or tired you get, make each day count.

I believe in parenting with a purpose and making the most of every single day with my kids. God created every child with a unique set of gifts and I want to help equip mine to be their best!

How do you balance your personal life and goals with being a mom? That is the million-dollar question! It is important to have some personal time away and I have been blessed with a supportive family of babysitters (thanks Mom and in-laws!), yet my goals have certainly changed since becoming a parent. My goals now are more focused around providing a great environment for my kids to grow and thrive.

Do you have any secrets you can share on making it all “work”? I have recently learned that having clear boundaries is important for a balanced lifestyle. We can’t be all things to all people but when we take ownership in our lives and set strong boundaries we can be much more productive mothers. To read her complete interview, click here.

Brittany Adair Co-Owner of Romance Diamond Co. Jewelers

With daughter Sydney (11 years old) and son Britton (8 years old)

As a mother to older kids, how has your role changed over the years? When they are young, you are all they have and you’re needed constantly. As they grow and they become self-sufficient, you have to work on connecting with them on a daily basis. It is so important. We have to work at it all the time because they are changing and growing so fast. You can lose touch quickly.

Do you have any secrets you can share on making it all “work”? I choose “fun.” Work hard, play hard. Once you understand that life is not perfect and everything will get done at some point, it gets easier. If we get through another day, we have succeeded! Don’t

worry about the small stuff, just try and make sure your family has fun each day.

What would you say to moms of younger children who might be struggling with being new to parenthood? Find time to do the things that keep you happy. I’m a very social person so being alone with children was hard on me. I get my energy from other people so I had to get back to work to feel better. Find your needs and listen to them.

TRÉS CHIC

Elizabeth Ray Owner of Glo Limited

With sons Asa (3 years old) and Lawson (4 months old)

What’s the hardest part about being a mother in today’s world? Life is busy. More women are working, so there seems to be more pressure to feel “important,” to feel “productive” and to have to have it all together. I have to realize that my number one job is my kids, and that is where I feel called to be. I have an incredible manager [at Glo] that allows me to be home with them and be flexible about work, and that’s a huge blessing.

What is your philosophy on work/life balance? Although it was always difficult and still is, I try to separate work time and family time. Leaving the thoughts and worries of tomorrow for then and 26

try to not dwell on them when I’m having quality family time. Setting aside time for work [that is] separate from the kids is what works best for me, instead of trying to take care of both things at the same time.

Do you have any secrets you can share on making it all “work”? Following the example of those who are ahead of me and have raised children well is my secret. It takes a lot of prayer, organization, and encouragement from friends and my husband to get through most of my days. Not stressing over the little things, which I tend to do, and planning ahead also helps!

Kim Ellis

Stay-at-home mom and volunteer

With daughter Chloe (12 years old) Not pictured: sons Brandon (22 years old) and Zach (20 years old)

If you had to sum up your philosophy on parenthood, what would you say?

is letting go and letting them experience life on their own.

There is no perfect rulebook on how to do this! Treat each other with respect and communicate. Most importantly . . . have fun. Engage in hobbies that your kids enjoy. As they grow older, you will continue to have things in common and they will want to be around you. I’ve been blessed with a fabulous husband that has always been very involved in raising our kids, that makes parenting much easier!

What would you say to moms of younger children who might be struggling with being new to parenthood?

As a mother to older kids, how has your role changed over the years? We have moved from nurturing and protecting them to counseling and guiding. The toughest part

I think we can all say we have struggled at some point as a new parent. Suddenly we are challenged with so many new situations wondering if we are doing this right. Each family has unique children that need to be parented appropriately. Keep things in perspective and stay true to your parenting beliefs. Parenthood is a long, fun and rewarding process. Parents should look for ways to enjoy every stage of their child’s growth. To read her complete interview, click here.

Luisa Lamson Retired from The Clorox Company as a Finance Manager after a 20-year career

If you had to sum up your philosophy on parenthood, what would you say?

How do you balance your personal life and goals with being a mom?

I believe that my role is to help my children grow to become good members of society with high integrity and a core set of values driven by faith. We should give our children enough independence to make decisions and understand consequences, as well as give them the opportunity to grow and help them learn from their mistakes because we will not

Although I left my career, I work harder than ever now and am heavily rewarded, just not with a paycheck. I am involved in various local committees as well as the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School board. But my greatest labor of love is the yearround fundraiser that I run at SVdP. It’s the best of all worlds for me because I am able to leverage my professional experience, help the school, and demonstrate the importance of volunteerism to my kids.

always be around to catch them.

Do you have any advice to share about motherhood? As my husband likes to say, “the nights are long, but the years are short.” Kids grow up very quickly so embrace and enjoy every stage. 28

Meredith Woodruff KNWA Account Executive

With son Cole (6 years old) and daughter Mattie (1 year old), and mother of the late Miller (who would have been 3)

You are inspiration for the journey you’ve traveled as the mother to Miller McNeil. Has being Miller’s mom impacted your views on motherhood and raising children? Absolutely! It has taught me to slow down and enjoy life. I used to rush milestones, always waiting for the next thing they were supposed to be doing. Now I realize that every child is different and does things in their own time, and some children like Miller don’t ever meet those milestones and that’s okay too.

What’s the hardest part about being a mother in today’s world? Probably feeling like you have to “keep up with the Jones’.” In today’s world of social media it’s hard not to compare you life with others. You can’t let yourself do that or you will never be happy with what you have. Trust me, not everyone’s lives are as perfect as they may appear on their blog, Facebook, and Instagram.

If you had to sum up your philosophy on parenthood, what would you say? All you need is love.

BEHIND THE SEAMS

Local boutique, Tesori, reinvents itself to help women find the perfect something new for every occasion in life. 35

BEHIND THE SEAMS

esori, co-owned by Erin Bridges and Lindsey Stavely, has long been a premier shopping destination in Fayetteville. Since 2010, the pair has successfully worked hard to build up Tesori’s brand and loyal following of dedicated shoppers. But like the hardworking small business owners they are, Erin and Lindsey kept wondering how to make the store even better and build on that success. A year and a half ago, they decided to incorporate formalwear into their store as natural extension of their current inventory at the time. “We needed something different than other boutiques in town,” Lindsey explains. “We already had higher end clothing, so we thought formalwear would be cohesive.” The addition of formalwear proved to be a fruitful venture for the pair and eventually they found themselves brainstorming some more. One day Lindsey says, she had a light bulb moment and knew what was next for Tesori; thus Tesori—Bridal, Formal & Occasion was born. “We kind of just had this ‘aha’ moment and decided we’re going to do it,” she shares. “We thought, if we’re going to do this, we’re going to do it right. We’re going to make the store feel good and look good, so that when you come in you feel like you want to make one of the biggest purchases of your life.” 36

Take one step in their newly-renovated store and it does just that. From the moment you walk in, you’re met with a gorgeous design that remains cohesive throughout with soft hues and luxurious textures everywhere you look. Dreamt up and designed by local interior designer Chris Goddard of Goddard Design Group, the gorgeous space was completely transformed into a whole new boutique for the new Tesori—Bridal, Formal & Occasion. Chris’ inspiration came from, he says, the wedding cake. “I wanted it to feel like a seven layer wedding cake. We layered all the different kinds of patterns like you’d see on a wedding cake,” he explains. “I also wanted it to be neutral to showcase the dresses.” The boutique now carries one-of-a-kind dresses for all occasions in life. From high school prom and homecoming to bridal showers and beyond, Tesori has the dress for any special time in life. In the front of the store, you’ll find gorgeous dresses from designers like Sherri Hill, Faviana, La Femme, Aidan Mattox, Teri Jon, Badgley Mischka and Kathy Hilton. The collection of special occasion dresses is certainly expansive and offers something for all ages and every affair.

37

BEHIND THE SEAMS

38

When looking for bridal lines, Lindsey and Erin wanted to offer a similar array of lines to appeal to every type of bride. The boutique carries Hayley Paige, Nicole Miller Bridal, Alvina Valenta, and even up-and-coming designer, Rafael Cennamo, with dresses of all styles and for every type of bride. From traditional to modern, Lindsey and Erin worked hard to find an array of the best dresses for every bride’s big day. And every bride that shops at Tesori is treated like royalty to celebrate the occasion. “Our goal is to make people feel like they don’t have to go to Dallas or New York City to get a big city feel and experience,” Lindsey explains. “You can stay here in Northwest Arkansas and get the best customer service and the best lines. We want the dresses to be as perfect as the brides do.” The pair understand that although it may seem trivial to some, finding “the” dress for any event is an important part of some of the best memories you make. ON & OFF THE COURSE

with Michelle Wie, Natalie Gulbis and Ai Miyazato

ichelle Wie, Natalie Gulbis and Ai Miyazato all have one thing in common—they are very passionate about the game of golf. All have proven themselves on the course as formidable opponents, dedicated golfers and champions of their craft. But now more than ever, fans and followers of the LPGA also have the ability to see these girls off the course and as more than just golfers. We follow them all over the globe through social media for golf tournaments and appearances, and are given a glimpse of who they are outside of the ropes.

As we prepare for the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G, which returns to Rogers June 23 through 29 for its eighth year, we set out to find out more about these players beyond golf swings and stats. They are passionate women who are fighting for causes, learning more about themselves and finding ways to relax among the pressure of being professional athletes constantly on the road. And we look forward to when that road brings them to Northwest Arkansas for our favorite golf match-up of the year.

may be known for her game of golf, but the 24-year-old professional is certainly multi-talented on and off the course. Since she was a young child, she’s made an internationally-recognized name for herself as a promising player with a lot of talent—some say she’s one of the most influential female athletes of her time. Wie was the youngest player to qualify for a LPGA Tour event, and turned professional at just 15 years old. But pursuing her personal interests off the course has always been important to the young golfer as well.

Wie graduated high school in June 2007 and continued her education at Stanford University, where she enrolled in September 2007. While pursuing her degree, she juggled her career as a professional golfer and education at Stanford by attending school in the fall and winter quarters for the first three years, and taking leaves of absence during the rest of the year to play golf. In March 2012, Wie completed her studies with a major in communications. While in college, she was given a sketchpad and crayons as a gift from a friend. “She said I would be good at drawing and it would help me take a break from my intellectual, task-oriented technical side,” Wie shares. “It became a way that I could

Unlike on the golf course, she didn’t necessarily have to be good at it. But to her surprise, she tapped into an artistic talent that she still plays around with today—drawing inspiration from her life on the road. “I’ve tried everything from watercolors to spray paint,” Wie explains. “I get inspiration from the things around me—current events, travel and people.” Wie is certainly not afraid to try new things. The golfer is willing to take risks on the course and off. Her hairstyles are ever evolving—recently she even rocked some pink hair. “I’ve experimented with dying my hair and with just about every hair style and color,” she shares. When Wie discovered she had food allergies, she decided she would try her hand at cooking and found passion in the kitchen as another way to unwind off the course. “Cooking helps me relax and stick to things that make me feel healthy,” she shares. She experiments with dairyfree and gluten-free recipes when she’s home. Fans follow along with Wie’s adventures on social media, where she shares her favorite recipes, pieces of artwork, and snapshots of life with her constant companion Lola, her Pomeranian, on Instagram and Twitter. As she continues to make her mark on the world of golf, we have a feeling her impact will be much larger than 18 holes. 43

started 2013 on a tough note. While at the Honda LPGA Thailand tournament in February, she contracted malaria from a mosquito bite. The golfer ended up sidelined for two tournaments, but didn’t feel back to her normal self until the LPGA Championship in early June. Once she was back on her feet and back on the greens, things starting looking up for the 30-year-old golfer. Gulbis was engaged to boyfriend Josh Rodarmel in July 2013, an announcement that took fans by surprise. Rodarmel, a former Yale football player,

COVER STORY met Gulbis through her affiliation with Power Balance bracelet, a company Rodarmel co-founded with his brother. The pair kept their relationship under wraps but many predicted a wedding would be in the near future. And after a whirlwind engagement, the couple was married in her home state of California on December 23 to close out the year on a high note. Gulbis describes the big day as perfect. “[We had] a small ceremony, barefoot on the beach. Then we came back to our beach house and had Mexican food,” she shares. “It was a very fun day with very low stress. The weather was perfect, and there was a beautiful sunset.” Gulbis has always held a spotlight in the LPGA— as a model player, both figuratively and literally. The gorgeous blonde bombshell has been known to strike a pose (or two) and is one of the most recognizable players in the organization. Lately though, her recognition has been less about her physical appearance and more about how she has been using the game of golf to give back to one particular organization close to her heart. In January 2013, Gulbis saw a lifelong dream come to fruition—a Boys and Girls Club in Henderson, Nev. was officially renamed The Natalie Gulbis Boys

& Girls Club on the golfer’s 30th birthday. As a child, Gulbis attended her local club in Sacramento, Calif. and even volunteered there when she got older. A resident of Henderson and a longtime supporter of the Club, Gulbis has raised over $200,000 through the Natalie Gulbis Golf Classic each year. “I love the chance to help provide a safe happy place to kids to go after school,” she says. The Natalie Gulbis Boys & Girls Club has more than 200 members, averaging about 50 kids per day. At the announcement on her birthday, Gulbis told the kids about her new Birdies for the Boys & Girls Club initiative. For every birdie she makes on tour, the golfer will donate $100 to the Natalie Gulbis Boys & Girls Club. Despite the bumps at the beginning of 2013, Gulbis’ year certainly ended strong and 2014 looks to be promising for the newlywed golfer. 47

AI MIYAZATO

is rarely seen without sporting a smile. The Japanese native is known for her cheerful disposition and is a favorite for others girls to play with on the tour. Not to mention, she’s not bad at the game either. She has racked up nine victories on the LPGA tour, and is a past champion of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G. The golfer took home the trophy in 2012, after overcoming a fiveshot deficit in the third round—her most recent win on the tour. At just 5’1”, she may be one of the smallest ones on the course, but don’t let that fool you. Since age 4, she’s been playing the sport that runs in her family. Her two brothers, Kiyoshi Miyazato and Yusaku Miyazato are professional golfers as well, and her father is a teaching pro.

AI’S TIPS FOR PLAYING PINNACLE COUNTRY CLUB: There are some trees and branches that can get in the way and the fairways are tight so you’ll need to be careful where you hit your shots. But there will be chances for birdies if you have smart course management. I particularly like the 18th hole because you can go for it in two or a lay up depending on the wind condition, and you can have a dramatic ending to the tournament! I hope that I can finish the 18th hole this year with a smile on my face.

AI’S MUST-HAVES FOR BEING ON THE ROAD: I can’t be without my computer and my cell phone. They may be a must have for everyone, but I’m on my computer for online shopping, checking people’s blogs, updating my website, checking the news, etc. I don’t watch much TV so I play music on my computer and phone too. Miyazato is a fan favorite in her homeland of Japan, where she played on the LPGA of Japan Tour (JLPGA) before joining the LPGA Tour in 2006. She became the youngest player on the JLPGA Tour to win a major in 2005, when at age 20 she won the Japan Open Championship. At the final round of the championship, over 32,000 spectators were in the audience to see her win—the largest gallery ever to attend a JLPGA event. On the course, you can almost always find Miyazato sporting her signature socks and for those paying even closer attention, she can often been seen with her nails done just right at every stop on the tour. She’s been spotted displaying nail art with anything from bright neon colors to rhinestones, and even Union Jacks in honor of the British Open while swinging her clubs. “Every time I get home from a road trip, I go and get [my nails] done,” she explains. “It is relaxing, gets my mind off golf, and I like to be fashionable, too.” We’re hoping those nails can bring her some luck on the course at this year’s Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G, a stop on the tour she touts as one of her favorites. “I’ve met great people over the years, we play on a great course, the fans are great, it’s very organized,” Miyzato lists. “And of course, being a past champion always makes it easy for me to pencil in this tournament on my schedule.” We can’t wait to see her on the course at Pinnacle Country Club. We’ll definitely be looking for her newest nail art and hoping it brings her some luck. n

WHAT’S NEW at the Tournament

or seven years, the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G has taken over Northwest Arkansas for a week full of golf with the LPGA’s top touring professionals. Each year the tournament includes new and exciting offerings that draw in crowds and fans from all over the region for this stop on the tour. “Since our inaugural year in 2007, all of us connected with the LPGA event in Northwest Arkansas are proud that it has grown to become much more than a professional golf tournament,” says Jay Allen, Tournament Chairman. “Rather, it is a week-long regional event involving golf, music, charitable outreach and relationship

development in Northwest Arkansas. Per the mission of our event, we believe we are making a real contribution toward the quality of life in Northwest Arkansas. One of our primary priorities this year is to continue to build upon and improve the overall spectator experience during the event.” Touted as one of the best tournaments by players and professionals alike, this year’s Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G looks to be one of the best years yet. With new plans in the works and surprises still to come, we’re counting down the days until all the fun kicks off at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers. Here are just a few things to look forward to at this year’s tournament . . . 59

COVER STORY JUNIOR PROS Calling all up-and-coming golfers and wannabe pros! The tournament has teamed up with Mattel to offer a clinic for kids 6-14yrs old to get some tips from the pros. Stop by the driving range on Thursday, June 26 for the Mattel Junior Clinic to get some face time with the players of the LGPA and learn the fundamentals of golf. This is a great opportunity for experienced players and new players alike. “I attended the event for the first time in 2013 and was impressed with the number of children and families in attendance,” Erica Zubriski, Vice President of Sales for Mattel, shares. “Sponsoring the Junior Clinic in which children of all ages will be exposed to the world’s best female golfers is a natural fit for Mattel, aligning strongly with our messaging around the importance of play. Our hope is that the Junior Clinic will encourage more children to play the game of golf and we are delighted to be a sponsor of the event this year.” For more information on the clinic, please contact the tournament office at 479.715.6100.

THE CLUB IS COMING New to the 17th hole this year, The MasterCard Club is offering an upgraded viewing experience for those who prefer the rowdy ambiance of the 17th. Very similar to the Malibu Party Deck, the Club will offer open-air seating with spectacular views of the greens, up and down 17. These premium ticket options are available to anyone, with each individual ticket costing $275, and each ticket is good for all three days of tournament play. In addition, 20 percent of the Club ticket proceeds will benefit the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank. There are limited club tickets available for the weekend, so get yours before they sell out at www.nwachampionship.com.

BALL PARK FAN PAVILION

GET LOUD AT THE ‘GATORADE LOUDEST HOLE ON TOUR’ It’s back! The loudest hole on the LPGA Tour is returning this year, bigger and better than ever. Additional seating is being added along the hole so that sponsors and the general public alike can join in the fun. Stop by on Saturday to take part in College Day, and sport your favorite college colors. Bragging rights for whichever team garners the most support (we have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot of red). So come out, and get loud at perhaps your only opportunity to make some noise on the golf course.

This facility will be open to anyone with a general admission ticket and it too will be part of the 17th hole experience. This year the public bleacher has been redesigned and relocated to provide a view of the 17th tee box from above and completing the stadium feel around the 17th hole.

STEPPING UP SOCIAL MEDIA There’s always time for a photo op! If you’re out on the course throughout the week and snap a great shot, take part in the inaugural Image Sharing Program sponsored by Mondelez to share your favorite moments out at the tournament for all to see. Submit photos from your experience at the tournament by tweeting them to @NWAChampionship and they may be featured on an interactive video wall on the 17th hole. “Photo sharing has become an

integral part of live events, it’s a chance to capture and share that special moment or experience. Our motto of Creating Delicious Moments of Joy through our delicious snack brands aligns nicely with the tournament’s image sharing program and we look forward to seeing our brands brought to life on the new interactive video wall on the 17th hole,” says Whitney Spencer, Associate Marketing Manager Mondelez International.

FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY As always, the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G is the perfect outing for the whole family, with kids activities planned throughout the week at the Walmart Kids Center presented by Dove. You’ll find arts and crafts, sweet treats, interactive games and signings with the pros at this familyfriendly area located behind the 16th green. The Walmart Kids Center presented by Dove is growing this year to add more activities and fun for the whole family. This facility will be open and free to the general public Friday-Sunday, with a requirement that all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. With low ticket prices for adults and kids under 17 gaining free admission, you have no excuse to stop by the tournament for a fun day in the sun and a little golf as well.

A CONCERT OFF THE COURSE The excitement of the week only continues on the evening of Saturday, June 23 at the annual Walmart Community concert held during the tournament each year. Last year, Kenny Loggins put on a show to be remembered at Orchards Park in Bentonville. This year, the concert is moving to the newly built Walmart AMP in Rogers. Though officials aren’t saying who the musical talent is yet, we have a

feeling it’s going to be quite the show and not to be missed. Stay tuned to find out who will be playing, but be sure to pencil this in on your calendar now. Be sure to block off June 23 to June 29 for our favorite week in golf. There will be lots to do throughout the week that you won’t want to miss out on. Stay up to date with tournament news and exciting announcements at www.nwachampionship.com. We’ll see you on the links! n

RETURNING HIGHLIGHTS: Two of our favorite events and activities we look forward to each year. Pantene Beautiful Lengths Historically, the tournament has done a lot of good in our community—and this is just one way each year. The Pantene Beautiful Lengths event encourages anyone with extra hair to spare to donate at least 8-inches in a community giving event. The energy is palpable each year as fans and players gather to give back in a meaningful and yet simple way. Find out how to get involved at www.beautifullengthsnwa.com.

Tournament Play Obviously our favorite part about the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G is the actual tournament. We are looking forward to seeing our favorite players and girls back out on the course at Pinnacle. It’s always exciting to see who will dominate this year or maybe someone new will surprise us to take the win. Who will you be rooting for on the links?

STEP UP YOUR GOLF GAME WITH

Stacy Lewis HOW IMPORTANT IS EXERCISE TO YOUR GAME OF GOLF?

Exercise is part of my daily routine. It is as important to me as hitting balls before my round. It helps me loosen up and I worry less about injury.

DESCRIBE YOUR TYPICAL WORKOUT REGIME. I start with core work and do a mixture of legs, arms and back. I really work on the big muscles to gain stability and speed in my golf swing.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE EXERCISE AND WHY? I enjoy working out and I am not sure I have a favorite. I place great emphasis on the core so if I had to choose one, I would say the core exercises.

IS THERE AN EXERCISE YOU DREAD? I dread any type of squat lifting with heavy weights. I only dread them because they are so hard.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR TIPS FOR MAINTAINING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE ON THE ROAD? I always have some sort of snack or bar with me and eat in moderation. More frequent smaller meals that include different types of foods is what I try to follow.

WHAT’S THE BEST THING SOMEONE CAN DO AS PART OF THEIR FITNESS ROUTINE TO BECOME A BETTER GOLFER? Golfers need to be doing core work and work on stability in legs and hips. All golfers should work on this and few amateurs do.

A

rkansas’ favorite golf professional knows the importance of staying in shape to be at the top of her game. After all, Stacy Lewis has found herself on top of the scoreboard a time or two. As a child, Stacy suffered from scoliosis and had to wear a brace 18 hours a day for seven years. Since that time, the golfer has made physical fitness and activity a priority in her life outside of the ropes. Through her workout regime and exercise, Stacy has found ways to improve areas of her game as a whole. Get into the swing of things and to the top of your own game with these tips from the pro herself.
