Neighborhoods in the Southwest community are at great disparity compared to other communities in Denver The definition of disparity; "a great difference, economic disparities between different regions of the country imbalance, inequality, disproportion, inconsistency, difference ” Disparities in our community means lack of healthcare access, unequal access to education, low rate of unemployment, eviction, low incomes and many more. According to the Social Correlates of Crime Reports created by Police District 4, at least 40% of Southwest Denver residents do not complete an annual check-up Adults consider themselves to be healthy and use that as an excuse to not get an annual check up There is the belief that the less you go to the hospital, the more money you will save. But in reality, 10% to 16% of residents don't have health care. This is a huge impediment as to why they do not get their annual check up It is important to receive your annual check up because as you grow older, there are more diseases, cancer, mental health disorders or other abnormalities that you might not be aware of

An additional health concern in Southwest Denver is mental health, because during this pandemic, we had to quarantine and be socially isolated from other people. People learned how to work, study, and have fun all while not leaving their home For others who consider themselves to be extroverts, social interaction was not practiced for their own safety which caused a huge change in the way they were able to socialize. Most of these problems already existed before the virus came, but COVID helped bring a greater awareness to the health disparities between the communities

Environment

Just like health, the environment is also different for neighborhoods because there are more green spaces in some communities than others By environment we don't only mean parks, trails and trees, but also lights on the streets for safety, more access to bike lanes and bus stops for those who don’t own cars. The Social Determinants of Crime Report states that the Harvey Park South neighborhood has very little street lighting and few trees Lack of trees and inadequate lighting demotivates families from going outside and getting exercise.
