Monferrato Glauco Lolli-Ghetti

Nato a Ferentino il 31 marzo del 1921, Glauco Lolli-Ghetti ha conseguito la laurea in Chimica Farmaceutica presso l’università di Genova nel 1944. Dapprima Direttore Amministrativo del Gruppo Armatoriale del suocero, il senatore Giovanni Battista Bibolini, nel 1955 dette vita alla Carboflotta, e nel 1964 creò la nuova compagnia Carbonavi. Nel 1966 fece realizzare le prime petroliere ecologiche a doppio scafo. Nel 1972 acquisì la NAI (Navigazione Alta Italia) arrivando così a una flotta di circa 50 navi. Oltre alla carriera lavorativa in campo marittimo e a due mandati da presidente dell’Unione Calcio Sampdoria dal 1961 al 1965 e dal 1974 al 1978, Glauco LolliGhetti ha dedicato una parte importante della sua vita al golf, ovvero la sua grande passione. Scopre il mondo del golf a Rapallo a fine anni ’60, dove diventa un buon giocatore dilettante. Sempre a fine anni ’60 acquista la cascina Margara, nei dintorni di Fubine Monferrato, e decide di sfruttare il terreno circostante per costruire un campo pratica e due buche. Quelle due buche (le attuali 3 e 9 del Percorso Lolli Ghetti del Golf Margara), avrebbero rappresentato il primo abbozzo di
quello che oggi è considerato uno dei più importanti circoli italiani. Successivamente, alle due buche se ne aggiungono altre 7, fino ad arrivare alle 9 buche del 1972. Nel 1974 Glauco Lolli-Ghetti completa il suo primo sogno: la realizzazione di un campo da golf a 18 buche. Negli anni ’90 iniziano i lavori per la realizzazione di altre 9 buche. Ma il progetto del dottor Glauco Lolli-Ghetti è ancora più ampio: sogna di rendere il Golf Club Margara uno dei pochi circoli italiani a 36 buche, e negli anni duemila anche questo progetto si materializza.

orn at Ferentino on the 31st March 1921, Glauco Lolli-Ghetti got his degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Genoa in 1944. First he was administration manager for the shipping company owned by his father-in-law, the senator Giovanni Battista Bibolini, and in 1955 he started up Carboflotta (collier fleet) while in 1964 he started up the new shipping company called Carbonavi. In 1966 he had the first ecological oil-tankers built with a double hull. In 1972 he bought NAI (Navigazione Alta Italia) reaching a 30
fleet of about 50 ships. Apart from his carrier in the maritime sector and two mandates as President of the soccer team Unione Calcio Sampdoria from 1961 until 1965 and from 1974 until 1978, Glauco Lolli-Ghetti dedicated a significant part of his life to golf, which he was very fond of. He discovered the world of golf at Rapallo at the end of the sixties and he became a good amateur player. In that period he bought the Margara Farmhouse, close to Fubine Monferrato, and he decided to use part of the land to build a Practice Course and two-holes. Those two holes - the present nr.3 and nr.9 of the Red Course at Margara Golf Club – were the first draft of what today is considered to be one of the most important Golf Clubs in Italy. Years later he added 7 more holes to the previous 2 and in 1972 a 9-hole Golf Course was ready. In 1974 Glauco LolliGhetti’s first dream of an 18-hole Golf Course came true. In the nineties he started to work on a new project to add 9 more holes. But Glauco Lolli-Ghetti had in mind an even more important idea, in fact his ambition was the Margara Golf Club would become one of the few Italian 36-hole Golf Clubs, and after the year two thousand also this dream was fulfilled.
