“CARING, COMPASSIONATE, CONSIDERATE”

Don’t remember me with sadness, Don’t remember me with tears, Think of laughter and the flavors

We’ve shared throughout the years. Know that I am resting easy, My life was full and bright, For loving you and sharing joy

Made every day feel right.

When you’re cooking in your kitchen

And I come into your mind, I’m beside you in each moment, Just a pinch behind.

So don’t be lost in sadness, Though I’m no longer in your sight, Remember I’m still with you

Each morning, noon, and night.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

(2 Timothy 4:7)

Javani Rayshun King was born on February 4, 1980, in Houston, Texas, to Bobbie and Mary King. To his family, he was affectionately known as “Shun,” a beloved son, brother, and friend. To the world, he would later be celebrated as “Chef Javani,” a visionary in the culinary arts whose food told soulful stories.

From an early age, Javani’s life was anchored in faith. He accepted Christ as a child and remained a dedicated member of New Loyalty Missionary Baptist Church throughout his life. There, he actively served in numerous ministries-including Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, the Youth Choir, and the Drill Team— planting the seeds of compassion, creativity, and community that would grow into a lifelong legacy. Raised in the close-knit communities of Northeast Houston and Humble, Javani was a proud graduate of Humble High School’s Class of 1998.

His joyful spirit and magnetic personality shone brightly during those years, especially as a male cheerleader whose enthusiasm was infectious. He went on to attend Stephen F. Austin State University, where he became a founding member of the Delta Xi Chapter of lota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. His time there revealed his natural gift for creative expression—he loved designing, planning, and bringing bold visions to life. After earning his degree, Javani followed his heart and pursued his childhood passion for cooking, enrolling in the esteemed Culinary Institute of Alain and Marie LeNotre, where he refined his skills and began crafting a style all his own.

Chef Javani King rose to prominence in Houston’s dynamic culinary scene with bold innovation and a deep reverence for tradition. Rooted in the comfort and richness of Southern soul food and inspired by treasured family recipes—like his father’s fried chicken and his great-grandmother’s icebox lemon pies—he infused each dish with heart, heritage, and an unmistakable flair. Known especially for his signature fusion of Southern and Asian cuisine, Chef Javani reimagined classic dishes into soulful, unforgettable experiences.

In 2004, he launched JK + CO Catering and Events, a full-service culinary company offering everything from curated pop-up dinners and personal chef services to large- scale event catering and staffing.

Under his leadership, JK + CO flourished, serving an impressive roster of clients, including Houston Texans owner Bob McNair, NBA superstar LeBron

James, singer and actress LeToya Luckett, and music executive Mathew Knowles. His talents took him across the globe and, most memorably, to the White House, where he had the honor of preparing a meal for First Lady Michelle Obama and her guests—a career highlight and a testament to his culinary excellence.

Chef Javani’s imprint on Houston’s dining landscape is indelible. He contributed as executive chef to several of the city’s most beloved restaurants, including Davis Street, Dolce Ultra Lounge & Bistro, Live Oak Bar & Grill, Cleo’s, Daiq, and Dove’s. His innovative dishes earned him top accolades at culinary competitions such as Rodeo Houston Uncorked!, the Houston Oxtail Mash Up, Black Restaurant Week, and multiple wins at The Best Bites Competition with his celebrated Crispy Thai Shrimp. His charisma and culinary artistry brought him to the small screen as well, with appearances on KHOU’s Great Day Houston, The Debra Duncan Show, Bridezillas, and two features on the Food Network’s Chopped. In 2017, he was profiled in JMG Magazine, recognized not only for his food

but for the spirit and style that defined his brand.

On Saturday, May 10, 2025, Chef Javani King transitioned from this world to eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Trimesia King; grandparents Bobbie E. King Sr., Norma J. King, Audrey M. Comeaux, and Octavia Comeaux; aunt Mary A. Richmond; and uncles Jerry Richmond, Jimmy Comeaux, Johnny Comeaux, Alfred King, and Kenneth King.

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted parents, Bobbie E. King Jr. and Mary J. King; sister Kheisha Green (Daryl); nieces Laiyah and TyLa Green; nephew Dash Green, all of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by a large extended family, cherished fraternity brothers, and countless friends who were touched by his joy, generosity, and genius.

Chef Javani King lived with purpose, passion, and a radiant spirit that made everyone he met feel special. His legacy lives on in every life he touched, every meal he lovingly prepared, and every joyful memory shared around a table. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Our Beloved Son

From the moment you came into our lives, you brought a light we never knew we were missing. As your parents, watching you grow has been one of the greatest privileges and deepest joys we’ve ever known. You have taught us as much as we’ve tried to teach you — about patience, love, perseverance, and the beauty of being uniquely yourself.

Your laughter has been the soundtrack of our happiest moments, and your resilience has inspired us through our hardest. Whether you’re chasing your dreams or just being the kind-hearted soul you’ve always been, we are endlessly proud of the man you have become.

Know this: our love for you is unconditional, unwavering, and forever. No matter where life took you, you carried with you our deepest hopes and strongest belief in your potential.

You will always be our greatest blessing. With all our love, Mom

and Dad

To My Brother

You’ve been more than just a brother— you’ve been a protector, a confidant, and a best friend. You always had a way of making me feel safe, even in the darkest times, and your presence was a constant reminder that I was never alone.

You were the one who cheered the loudest when I succeeded and picked me up when I fell. You believed in me, even when I doubted myself. Your strength, your humor, your unwavering support — these are gifts I will carry with me always. We shared laughter, secrets, and a bond that words often fail to capture. Whether it was silly childhood games or deep late-night talks, every moment with you has shaped who I am.

You’ve left an indelible mark on my life, one that will never fade. I am so proud to call you my brother — and forever grateful to have been your sister.

Love, your Sister

A Tribute to Our Uncle

Today, we celebrate the life of a truly remarkable man-our uncle, our guide, and our friend.

To us, he was more than just an uncle. He was a source of strength, laughter, and wisdom. He had that rare gift of making everyone around him feel special. Whether it was with his infectious smile, his warm hugs, or his endless stories, he had a way of lighting up every room he entered.

He was there for us—not just during holidays and celebrations, but in the quiet, everyday moments. He cheered us on from the sidelines, listened without judgment, and always found the right words when we needed them most. His advice was steady, his humor healing, and his love constant.

We remember his kindness, the way he never hesitated to lend a hand, and how he always made time for us. We’ll miss his jokes, his bear hugs, his guidance, and most of all, the way he made us feel like we could do anything.

Uncle Shun, thank you for loving us like your own. Thank you for the memories, the lessons, and the laughter. Your spirit lives on in us—in every kind act we perform, in every story we tell, and in every life you’ve touched.

We love you forever, and we carry you with us—always.

With all our love, Your Nieces & Nephew

TyLa, Laiyah & Dash

A Tribute to someone who meant the world to me,

You were a true original. Not just a renowned chef, but a larger-than-life presence who filled every room with joy, laughter, and flavor. I may have been the additional little sister you never asked for but you loved me anyway, and for that, I am forever grateful.

Your passion was magnetic. Watching you in the kitchen was like watching art in motion. You didn’t just cook; you created, inspired, and brought people together. You taught me so much about confidence, creativity, and the power of living out loud.

I have the utmost respect and deep gratitude for the time we had here on this earth. I’ll miss your joyful spirit, your hilarious sense of humor, and the way you lit up every space you entered. You truly shined bright, and your light touched everyone lucky enough to know you.

Though you’ve gone ahead, you will never be far from me. Your love, your wisdom, your laughter will live on in my heart. Thank you for letting me be part of your story. Rest well, Shun.
