On Saturday 4th October North West Auctions conducted the dispersal sale of farm machinery and equipment on behalf of long-standing customers J & E Nuttall, Low Bendrigg Farm. Despite storm Amy gripping the northern counties, customers were in attendance from far and wide including Scotland, Wales, Ireland and France. All sale items were extremely well cared for with prices achieved reflecting this.

No sign of any blues at this sale!
Leicester tups were sought after in all age brackets with a 93% clearance and an increased average on the year!
With a good entry forward and gimmer lamb sales behind us, farmers were in red hot form to step on for next year. Over 200 head available and quality in abundance, with some of the biggest names in the job present, a quality show was witnessed. Judging was very kindly undertaken by Mr John Atkinson and Miss Sarah Emmott, who had a huge task in hand.
Large numbers came out for both shearlings and lambs with Ian Dixon, Low Newton winning the shearling class and Alec Brown, Macqueston winning the lamb class. The Macqueston flock went on to take overall champion with Jimmy Bell, Cottage taking the Reserve Champion with the second prize ram lamb.
The most notable trade of the evening was for the shearlings with an average of £1030 overall Topping this sector was second price shearling from Midlock Farms Ltd making £5500 going to Messrs Ridley, Allenshields.
Ram lambs were not to disappoint; average came out at £1005. Trade was topped at WM Reed & Sons, West Biggins making £5200 going to Gary Lodge, Malham Moor.
The champion from Alec & Anders Brown realised £5000 with one of the judges, Sarah Emmott backing here judgement in partnership with Will & Gill Sedgley. Reserve champion from Jimmy Bell made £3000 selling to JC Walker & Son, Brennand Farm.

PRIME LAMBS
Well fed lambs being the order of the day, attracting keenest buyer interest and easily sold, with those straight o grassland lacking finish a more selective trade. The usual consignment of well finished lambs from J Twigge sold to £165 and £165. This was closely followed by KA Purtill achieving £162, £161and DJ Clarke £160. The heavier end of the standard weight lambs were £148 to £157, with grass finished £135 to £142, lightweights to £127 and others £118 to £125. Hill bred lambs forward in ever increasing numbers, with heavy Mules to £161.
A trailer full of well finished Texel cross lambs from TR Prickett lead the way selling to 363p/kg with other better end 320p/kg to 350p/kg, commercial lambs were

305p/kg to 318p/kg with several pens less being under finished grass fed lambs. An overall market average of 308p/kg was achieved.

Still Climbing: Another strong day at J36 Last week was about growth. This week is about momentum. Once again, prime lamb numbers have held strong here at Junction 36 – proof that confidence in the ring remains high.
Weve seen:
- Consistently high entries.
- Strong trade across the board.
- Quality pens pulling the bids they deserve.
Today’s sale topped at £183 for Texels from Messers PJ & ES Rogerson. Just behind this was Messers JB Airey with a pair at £181. The top ppk today was for a pen of three 48kg lambs from ST Birkett, selling for 352p/kg. Lighter Beltex lambs from JB Jackson hit 348.7p/kg and Messers D & DW Prickett sold a fantastic run of lambs to top at 340p/kg for a pen of 7. Todays overall average was 305p/kg finishing up very similar to the previous week. More sheep required going forward. It’s not just a one o – the energy is real and continuing. This popular sale once again saw the sale yards full to capacity with the variety of lots on o er beyond imagination.
Over 60 vehicles on o er this month seeing a Massey Ferguson 5455 4wd direct o a local farm selling at £17,000 with a Merlo P30.9 telehandler achieving £9500 from a local retailer. A Land Rover 90 sold at £7900 and JCB mini digger at £5100. Endless 4x4 vehicles selling at £1200-£3500 and cars £1000-£2800.
Well maintained and clean items attracted the keenest bidding with several export purchases present looking to fill lorry’s on a regular basis. It is really worth cleaning your items prior to the sale to ensure maximum sale valve.

Over 5000 lambs sold today to average £105.02, for a very seasonal entry including many hill bred lambs. Good quality forward continental bred lambs still achieving great returns, topping at £160 for Texel cross from Thomas Wilson, Ashtead with £150 achieved for Beltex by both Raine & Davidson, Kirkby Stephen and Robyn Allen, Ings. Strongest continental lambs were regularly £125 and upwards, with Su olks to £125 from Messrs Wilson, Wyke with others at £124 from DM Eames, Abbeystead. Mules sold to £119 for a pen of twenty five from GI&D Postlethwaite, Howgill with others to £117 from GM Strong, Penrith. Other stronger lambs were £100 to £110 with longer term sorts less. Hill bred lambs sold to £127 for Cheviots from N Burton, Sedbergh with Rough Fells to £123 from D&A Jackson, New Biggin. CALVES
87 calves forward today at Lancaster with a great turnout of buyers and onlookers.
Taking centre stage today was a British Blue bull calf selling in aid of St Johns Hospice, following the passing of Rachel Standen. The calf bred by and originally donated by CR&A Baxter, Morecambe sold at a charity auction in September where it was bought by Phil Halhead on behalf of Norbreck Genetics who kindly donated the calf to be sold again today.

The calf sold for £850 to North West Auctions Andrew Butler, Matthew Probert and Will Rogerson, before it was sold again for £1000 to Mike Standen, with the £1000 kindly matched by James Lamb, Old Glasson. Thank you to anyone else who has kindly donated today, a sincere act of generosity.
Other bull calves saw a nice trade, however buyers more selective than earlier in the year, selling to £870 was an Aberdeen Angus from JS Towers & H Kent, Dolphinholme with British Blues to £850, £840 and £830 from Lawsons Dairy, Cockerham. Other British Blue bulls sold to £790 from JP&C Robson, Brock or £770 for RT Halhead, Cockerham. The youngest end saw three week old Aberdeen Angus to £360 from Ivan Slater, Brock with Black and Whites this week selling to £350 from J&R Waller, Killington.
Heifer calves sold to £780 for a British Blue from JS Towers & H Kent, Dolphinholme with Lawsons Dairy selling at £710 and £700. AD&RL Milner, Brock were close behind at £690 again for British Blues with Aberdeen Angus topping at £650 again from JS Towers & H Kent.
A handful of stirks sold to £1040 for a Limousin bull from F&TE Park, Crook with British Blue bulls from this home at £1000 and heifers at £940.

Lancasters weekly sale of store cattle would see trade very similar on the week, with a few more weathered cattle on o er. Aberdeen Angus steers yet again were top of the leader board, this week from JS Clark & Sons, Catforth with their pair achieving £2580. Other Aberdeen Angus steers from the same good home achieved £2450. T Robson & Son, Singleton also sold Aberdeen Angus steer to £2400 for a pen of four. Loyal Lancaster supporter J Lamb, Old Glasson saw their five well farmed British Blue steers hit £2550, while a pair from M Shepherd & Sons, Pilling sold at £2500. Numerous other British Blue steers were over £2300. Simmental steers achieved £2300 from T&E Burrow, Slyne not far behind was Barlow Bros, Preston at £2250. A good show of Charolais steers sold to £2220 from MJ Waller, Lupton with others at £2000 for a pen of five from EE Thornton & Sons, Heaton with Oxcli e. Hereford steers sold to £2150 from A&E Clarkson, Thurnham who also sold Limousin steers to £2250. Dairy bred steers saw Friesian to £2220 from R&DJ Holden, Cockerham other with Friesians from DJ Townley, Stodday to £2200. Plenty of other Friesians were over the £2000 barrier. A trio of Fleckvieh steers from H Birkett & Son, Overton sold to £2180. All steers today averaged £2151.
Store heifers sold to £2120 for Aberdeen Angus from EE Thornton & Sons, Heaton with Oxcli e for a pair. Other Aberdeen Angus heifers sold to £2100 from DJ Townley, Stodday. British Blues to £2080 from R&DJ Holmes, Cockerham with other British Blues to £2050 from M Shepherd & Sons, Pilling. Plenty more British Blue were around the £1900 mark. Charolais heifers sold to £2080 from L Parson & Sons, Levens with others at £1980 for a trio from J Townley, Whittingham. Limousin heifers sold to £1920 from R&DJ Holmes, Cockerham. All heifers today averaged £1902.

OTM continue to sell to remarkable levels at Lancaster. Some impressive gross prices today, topping at £2940.25 (309.5p/kg) for a cast Aberdeen Angus bull from G Metcalfe & Son, Gressingham. Next at £2866.24 (344.5p/kg) was a Limousin cull cow from EJ Ward & Son, Nether Kellet. Fleckvieh cows to £2396 (299.5p/kg) from TN Pye & Partners, Lancaster. Black and Whites cows topped at £2260 (259.5p/kg) from W Garnett & Son, Milnthorpe with a seven year old Black and White cow to £2140.35 (254.5p/kg) from T Taylor, Woodplumpton.
Topping the pence per kilo was an OTM heifer from AT Burrow & Son reaching 374.5p/kg, with cows to 369.5p/kg from A&V&A Thornton, Cockerham. Black and Whites to 324.5p/kg from Richmond Hall with others at 299.5p/kg from A&MI Robinson, Orton. Any amount of Black and White cows were 220p/kg to 250p/kg, with the best 250p/kg to 280p/kg.
