Weekly Report and Newsletter - 25th March 2022 Lancaster Auction Mart: Weekly Sale of Prime Hoggs, Cast Sheep & Sheep with Lambs at Foot, 21st March 2022 Prime Hoggs The weekly sale of prime hoggs at Lancaster saw a reduced number forward, followings last weeks bumper entry. A mixed show on offer with some vendors coming to an end of their hoggs, an overall averaged of 247p/kg and SQQ of 253p/kg. Topping the trade this week was a super Beltex hogg at 46kg achieving 359p/kg or £165 from AG Butler, Hambleton, with others from the same home to £150 or 313p/kg also for Beltexs, proving that butcher quality hoggs are in demand at Lancaster. Heavy weight Texels sold to £138 from JS Horner, Ingleton. Quality hoggs from JE Parkinson, Quernmore saw Texels to £130 for a trio, with others at £130 from JW Cornall, Bleasdale. A consignment of well fed hoggs from R Collinge, Newton saw Beltex hoggs to £129 or 280p/kg. Handy weighted hoggs were in demand selling to £107 or 274p/kg for 39kg Continental bred hoggs. Suffolk hoggs today topped at £128 from J France, Garstang with others at £127.50 from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale. Mule hoggs saw heavy weights to £115 from AG Butler, Hambleton with others at £109 from M&L Preece, Kirkby Lonsdale. Cast Sheep The cast sheep trade shows no signs of steading up with an overall average of £122. Ewes topped at £160 for Texels from GR&A Foy, Conder Green with others from the same home to £148. Mule ewes from S Wilson, Scotforth sold to £130 and £122, who also had Cheviots to £100. Swaledale ewes were in demand to £105 from JA Simpson, Calder Vale. A large entry of cast tups saw Texels to £176 from JE Parkinson & Son, Quernmore with others to £152 from the same home. Cheviot tups saw a pen of five to £145 from P&M Ashbury, Abbeystead while Leicesters sold to £142 from T Ayrton & Sons, Over Wyresdale.
