Weekly Report and Newsletter - 25th February 2022 Lancaster Auction Mart: Weekly Sale of Prime Hoggs and Cast Sheep, 21st February 2022 Prime Hoggs Lancaster had just shy of 600 prime hoggs on the market, selling to an overall market averaged of 241p/kg, with stand weights averaging 247p/kg. Standard weight hoggs were in most demand today with heavy weights and other out of specification hoggs seeing slightly less trade but inline with recent weeks. A consignment of well finished inside hoggs from AG Butler, Hambleton led the way peaking at £141 or 320p/kg, with others from the same home to £140, £134 twice and £131. Texel hoggs from A Birchall, Dolphinholme sold to £136 and £128. Suffolk hoggs from JW Cornall & Son, Bleasedale peaked at £129. The Mule hogg trade peaked at £115 twice from G&K Richmond, Inglewhite. 34.6% of the hoggs forward to day were Horned, on which the majority were light weights, peaked at £104 for Dalesbreds from T&CM Kelsall & Son, Chipping. 38kg Lonk x hoggs sold to £92.50 from A Chard, Roeburndale. Cast Sheep The trade remands very buoyant for all specification of cast sheep at Lancaster, Texel rams led the way selling to £146 from GF&EE Holt, Chipping. Texel ewes from A&E Clarkson, Thurnham sold to £145 and £142, this was followed by others to £139 from PD Pye, Over Wyresdale. Suffolk ewes peaked at £136 from JW Cornall & Sons, Bleasedale. Plenty of Suffolk and Texel x ewes selling easily in the £120’s. Leicester ewes peaked at £120 from T Ayrton & Sons, Over Wyresdale. Mule ewes topping at £113 from JW Cornall & Sons, Bleasedale, with others to £109 from T Ayrton & Sons, with strong Mule ewes regularly selling in excess to the £100 mark. Horned ewes saw Swaledales peak at £106 from J Bargh & Son, Morecambe with Dalebreds to £90 from FK&F Woodhouse, Scorton.
