Weekly Report and Newsletter - 21st January Lancaster Auction Mart: Weekly Sale of Prime Hoggs and Cast Sheep, Monday 17th January 2022 Prime Hoggs A much better entry of just shy of six hundred prime hoggs forward today at Lancaster, which were was met by as usual a busy ring of buyers. The trade today in keeping with many other markets saw handy weighted hoggs in most demand with buyers shy on the heavy weighted hoggs. Quality butcher hoggs remain in strong demand peaking at £140 or 300p/kg for Beltex’s from JE Parkinson and Son, Quernmore with others from the same home selling to £138. Beltex hoggs from Andrew Butler sold to £140 with Texel from the same home selling to £131 and £130 twice. Texel hoggs weighing fifty kilograms sold to £138 from JM & MH France & Son, Littledale with other noted prices being £133 from AT Alcock, Inskip followed by Texel’s twice to £130 from J & R Waller, Killington and P Kaye, Chorley. Mule hoggs sold to £120 from T & H Drinkall, Oakenclough followed by £119.50 from WI & A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale whom sold Mashams to £118.50. Cheviot hoggs sold to £115 from P Prickett, Hutton Roof. Horned hoggs sold to £103 at 42kg for Dalesbeds from S & J France, Over Wyresdale. Cast Sheep The cast sheep trade remains as strong as ever with a much increased entry of over 100 forward selling to a strong market average of £104.19. Pure Texel ewes lead the way selling to £166 from CD & HL Mason, Caton with others from the same home selling to £144 with plenty of Texel cross ewes selling in the one hundred and thirties. Beltex ewes sold to £140 from Ian Richardson, Catforth. Zwartble cross ewes sold to £122 from R & DL Cornthwaite, Nateby. Heavy Mule ewes were a strong trade peaking at £119 from J Burr, Quernmore with others to £117 from R & DL Cornthwaite, Nateby and £116 from S Wilson and Son, Scotforth with plenty selling in excess of £110. Cheviot ewes sold to £98 from SE & J Gorst, Littledale with horned ewes topping at £93 from JW Cornall & Son, Bleasdale.
