Prime Hoggs The trade for prime hoggs at Lancaster goes up two gears, with all forward averaging 321p/kg. The sale topped of £168 twice for pens of Texels from J France, Pilling with Dutch Spotted to £167 from KP Dagger, Garstang. Beltexs saw the best sell to £162 from KA Purtill, Wigan. The best pence per kilo being 380p/kg for Beltexs from T&E Burrow, Slyne with Texels to 370p/kg from AG Butler, Hambleton. Pens of smart well bred hoggs were regularly 340p/kg to 360p/kg, with export types 330p/kg to 340p/kg. Heavy Mashams saw a top of £158 from T&D Wright, Wray with a ring full of Mules to £148 from S&J France, Over Wyresdale. Mules were regularly 290p/kg to 300p/kg. Cheviot hoggs sold to £141 or 322p/kg from P Prickett, Hutton Roof. Light weight hoggs were in keen demand with these full of meat regularly 320p/kg to 335p/kg. A pen of 38kg Dutch Spotted hoggs from KP Dagger sold to £131. Horned hoggs saw 36kg Rough Fells sell to £108 from LA Bradshaw, Stalmine who sold Herdwicks at 37kg to the same price. Prime Hoggs A very strong trade was seen for all types and breeds of hoggs at Junction 36, an overall market averaged of 308p/kg was achieved, with well over half the sale being hill bred hogg. Top grossing dairy cow was a Holstein Friesian from TL Baldwin & Son, Forton achieving £1579.
