Weekly Report and Newsletter – 7th January Lancaster Auction Mart: Weekly Sale of Prime Hoggs and Cast Sheep, Monday 3rd January 2022 Prime Hoggs The new years bank holiday Monday at Lancaster had an entry of 693 forward selling to an overall market averaged of 260p/kg. A variety and types of hoggs forward saw best confirmation and inside fed selling to a premium. 52kg Texel hoggs sold to a top of £149 from A&E Howson, Thornley. This was followed by the consignment from Andrew Butler, Hambleton selling Texel hoggs to £148, £146.50, £145, £144, £142 and Suffolks to £140. Selling to £145.50 was Texel hoggs from J&MM Cliffe, Forton whom sold others to £138. Beltex hoggs peaked at £145 from JE Parkinson & Son, Quernmore with others from the same home selling to £140. Texel hoggs from Harry Carter, Ellel peaked at £142 followed by others to £140 from CA Fletcher, Goosnargh. Plenty more pens of hoggs selling into the £130’s. Best confirmation hoggs continue to sell around the 300p/kg mark, peaking at 330p/kg and 320p/kg from Andrew Butler. Upland hoggs saw Mashams peak at £117 at 43kg from S&J France, Over Wyresdale. Mules peaked at £113 at 45kg from B&SE Carter, Ellel. Horned lambs sold to £106 weighing 43kg from S&J France. The trade today saw fed and inside lambs selling to a premium, with buyers showing caution of grassy leaner type lambs.

Cast Sheep There was a good buzz round the cast sheep ring today as the trade peaked at £171 for a Texel ewe from A&E Clarkson, Thurnham. This was followed by Charollais sheep to £135 from S Rossall, Over Wyresdale, with Suffolk ewes peaking at £132 from JW Cornall & Sons, Bleasdale. Beltex ewes sold to £130 from J&J Smith, Brookhouse. Mule ewes peaked at £112 from A&E Howson, Thornley. Upland sheep saw Cheviots sell to £102 from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof. Horned sheep sold to £81 for Swaledales from JW Cornall & Sons, Bleasdale.
