Weekly Report and Newsletter - 4th March 2022 Lancaster Auction Mart: Weekly Sale of Prime Hoggs and Cast Sheep, 28th February 2022 Prime Hoggs The weekly sale of prime hoggs enjoyed a sharper trade, with an overall market average of 255p/kg. In specification handy weighted Continental hoggs averaged just over the 270p/kg mark. Heavy weighted hoggs this week saw a noticeably sharper trade selling to a top of £140 and £139 for Texels at 52 and 49kg from Cardwell Farms, Stalmine. This was closely followed by heavy weight Texels to £139 from GH Sanderson & Family, Catforth with others from this home to £138 and the consignment averaging £134.72. Heavy weight Charollais peaked at £138 from AT Alcock, Inskip. Texel hoggs sold to £137 from Andrew Butler, Hambleton. The trade for Beltex hoggs topped at £134 twice from JE Parkinson & Son, Quernmore or 300p/kg. The Suffolk trade sold to £129.50 from Cardwell Farms, Stalmine. Upland hoggs saw Mules sell to £117 from J Burr, Quernmore with other Mules to £115 from RG&H Preece, Roeburndale. Mashams peaked at £111.50 for 44kg from DC Miller, Claughton on Brock. Horned hoggs peaked at £117 for Swaledales from KM&KJ Curwen, Abbeystead. Lightweights continue to be a strong trade, especially for Continentals. Cast Sheep A blistering cast ewe trade saw the sharpest seen so far this year, as everything forward averaged just shy of the £100 mark, to include many runs of hill bred sheep. The consignment from J&MM Cliffe, Forton led the way selling Texel x ewes to £163 and Texel tups to £152, Mule ewes from the same home peaked at £146. Texel x ewes from T&L Kirkham, Eccleston sold to £146 with Texel x ewes from J&R Waller, Killington achieving the same price. All Texel ewes forward averaged £128.77. The consignment of Texel and Suffolk x ewes from G&H Sanderson & Family sold to £139, £138, £132 twice and £129. Leicester ewes peaked at £136 from M&L Preece, Kirby Lonsdale whom sold pens of Mule ewes to £128. Hill ewes saw pens of Cheviots sell to £106 from P&M Asbury, Abbeystead. Swaledale ewes sold to £83 and £82 from KM&KJ Curwen, Abbeystead. Cast Ewe Top Prices: Texel: £163 Bowlands Gardens, £146 Ingrave Farm, £146 High Hallbeck, £139, £138 Blackleach House Farm, £136 Bowlands Gardens.
