Lilydale Rotary’s Anzac Day Cookup
Lilydale's Rotary Club once again demonstrated their commitment to the community by providing breakfast for attendees of the dawn service on Anzac Day Members gathered at the Anderson Street clubrooms to cook sausages, offering warmth and sustenance to those returning from the solemn commemoration at the Lilydale cenotaph
The dawn service itself was a poignant occasion, with thousands gathering on Main Street to pay tribute to the fallen Emergency services, school students, and community members laid wreaths in honor of the servicemen and women who sacrificed so much.
Barb Lawrence, the project lead for the Rotary Club, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to support returned veterans through their fundraising efforts. The 'gold coin donation' for sausages saw generous contributions from locals, many of whom donated in memory of loved ones.
Looking ahead, the Rotary Club of Lilydale is committed to continuing their partnership with Lilydale RSL into 2025, marking 110 years since the Gallipoli landings. Their dedication to honoring and supporting veterans remains unwavering

Their journey, marked by hardship and resilience, saw them island-hopping for months until they finally landed in Australia, where they were greeted with both suspicion and relief Mackieson's intimate knowledge of the night sky, gained from his days as a cattleman, proved invaluable in guiding them home
Despite battling malaria and other ailments, Mackieson continued to serve, demonstrating unwavering dedication to his country until his eventual discharge at the end of the war in 1945. His plaque, a symbol of his bravery and sacrifice, will find a rightful place among the trees and seats of Buchan South's avenue of honor, honoring his legacy for generations to come
